No, it isn't. They pop up since you communicated with them previously but it isn't adding them to your G+.

Well they shouldn't pop up. It's noise. That's what I'm getting at.

I'm never going to add "sale-j2uqa-1976305463@craigslist.org" to my friend circle.

Sorting by relevance pushes those communications to the bottom. I had no problem easily finding the people I communicate with the most by doing so.

I do this regularly.

Go to gmail.

Choose "Contacts", the left menu will change.

It will have "My Contacts".. (people you've added to contacts), "Most Contacted" (your 20 most contacted people), and "Other Contacts" (everyone you've ever e-mailed).

I regularly clear out "Other Contacts" since it's full of that crap you don't want showing up places.

I've spent way too much time on this thing today. So that's a good sign.

They stated that they weren't more aggressive with contact matching/filtering because they didn't want to freak people the fuck out.

It's not that they can't.....it's that they don't want to. Which is kinda scary in itself.

If I give you guys my phone number can you call me when they're letting register again?

That definitely helps but relevance isn't perfect. I hadn't had an email conversation with a friend in 2 years and he was in the thick of random businesses/junk. I'm really just irked by the fact these junk email addresses are there to begin with.

Cool. I'm gonna go do this. That'll clear out the clutter.

PM me your email and I'll send you an invite as soon as I can.

Not guaranteeing that I'll be on my computer 24/7 though haha

Enco said:
Yea that sucks too.

So far I have:

1. Incorporate reader with Sparks
2. Incorporate calendar for events

3. Private messaging (new interface simpler than gmail?)
4. Don't find old contacts emailed once and recommend them
5. The ability to share spark feeds and possibly a way to comment on the side

This would be pretty godly.

I wonder if Google is going to merge Gmail and Google+? They'd have a leg up on Fbook mail.

I already got an invite last night, I just didn't get a chance to register before they closed down for the night. I'm assuming the invite I received is still valid, I just need to click through at the right time to activate it. I was joking about the phone number thing, I just KNOW they're going to open it up again the second I leave the house.

Yeah, it also helps with typing into the "To:" box in gmail.

I almost royally fucked up once sending an e-mail that I thought was to my girlfriend (whose name starts with Je), but realized I'd somehow auto-filled in my ex-wife's sisters e-mail (Jenny).

It reminded me of the ability to clean those names up. You can also "export" the list in case you think maybe you'll want to go looking at it again, you can re-import people.

Don't forget to check "Most Contacted" though.. it can keep some really old people around if you don't e-mail a ton of folks a lot.

Sure would. Not sure if merging the two would be too great though. Businesses wouldn't like that.

That could really hose people who work places with web filters.

My work currently filters "Social Network" sites, but not e-mail hosts.. you just get a warning.. and certain features break (gchat, attachments).

If G+ merged with gmail that could screw gmail over.. I'd probably have to abandon it if my work filtered gmail.

It is garbage compared to facebook in terms of features and UI.

The only thing going for Google+ is better privacy opt outs.

Google Calendar got a new look today. Probably part of their new Google experience thing they are doing when they launched Google+. Now if they only change Google Docs.

So far my gripe is I want more integration with Gmail and Reader. If there is a way to share Reader items to Google+ it will be awesome.

Sparks is unfortunately about 1000x more stupid than I hoped. Putting in my (fairly generic) neighbourhood name doesn't for example grab local news about my neighbourhood but rather seems to just do a vague google search on that string.

I think there's a huge potential for the idea of Google fetching you news about an interest, but it's got to be very, very smart for it to be effective.

It would be good if you could feed it a seed website to give it an idea of what you want. For example if you put in "menswear" into sparks you'll get super vague fashion news. It would be better if you could put in a narrowly focused blog about say classic american heritage brands, or japanese street style and have the spark tuned toward what exactly you're interested in.

maybe you can set web history on and google will make it smarter? click the gear, web histroy and turn it on.

not for the paranoid, but if you're doing google+ anyway, they pretty much already have your everything, so give it a shot.

EDIT: this will track your incognito mode as well. so you know..... it might make your porn searches more effective as well.

need to be able to add my youtube vids to my 'my videos' section as well. huge oversight.

Google could have kept this under wraps a bit longer, so far it's great, but they are missing a few things that would have made it ridiculous great.

So if I am viewing a friend's profile, is there no way to quickly send them a message or email? I may be missing it but I do not see anything.

Edit: It looks like this particular friend is not sharing his e-mail address to there is no quick way to message him.

I have a button on my profile under my avatar that says 'Send an Email'.

Your email is hidden but they can still send one to you.

The Social Network "race" seems eerily similar to the MMO race...

Oddly enough Google didn't put a "Beta" on this thing.

I hope they keep it close for a bit longer before they open up the floodgates.

It still reminds me of when my Myspace "friends" would tell me that they don't do FB.

My history is on which is why I find it really surprising about how bad it is. It's ultra, ultra beta I guess.

I really do think there should be some options to give it some starter websites to go on. You know so I can just say "gimmie more like this plz."

Google is stating to look classy.

Why we made these changes

The way people use and experience the web is evolving, and our goal is to give you a more seamless and consistent online experience -- one that works no matter which Google product you’re using or what device you’re using it on. The new Google experience that we’re working toward is founded on three key design principles:

Focus: With the design changes in the coming weeks and months, we’re bringing forward the stuff that matters to you and getting all the other clutter out of your way.

Elasticity: The new design will soon allow you to seamlessly transition from your desktop computer to your mobile phone to your tablet, while keeping a consistent visual experience. We aim to bring you this flexibility without sacrificing style or usefulness.

Effortlessness: Our design philosophy is to combine power with simplicity. We want to keep our look simple and clean. But behind the seemingly simple design, the changes use new technologies to make sure you have all the power of the web behind you.

Yeah, it really is. Loving the new color schemes.

Some white/darkgrey/orange would probably suit Android pretty well, too. MUCH better than the Tron stylings of Hcomb.

Wow, they look so similar but Google offers an order of magnitude more stuff. I am so goddamn excited to have all my Google shit tied together.

I was thinking about what could be done with link sharing and hangouts and the Music app. Oh man if you could like link friends to songs in your library for them to stream..

Argh, they need to turn invites back on so I can start having more than just one friend! I'm actually excited to use this thing.

Google who is essentially and ad company has + being ad free, and Facebook who is the social company has ads.

Awesome.

So what they really need for integration is a way to make editing Docs using Circles or my G+ friends. Also a way to go to my Docs and pick one and share it with my Circles.

Same thing for calendars. They need a way to export calendars to Circles or specific G+ friends.

And last thing is Reader. It would be cool if it could be easily integrated into Sparks. So I can choose a certain website feed and put it in Sparks. Or I just pick an item from Reader and share it to my Circles.

One word! Android! - Wait, two words - Mobile Apps.

Once they release the G+ app on iOS we will see a nice spike in users. I also hope there is a BB app on the way.

The FB app is my most used app, behind Gmail, but it is unreliable. FB takes forever to update it and when they do they add more bugs than take away.

That's true, though my company uses Google Apps--couldn't they just exclude that from integrating?

I'd love to see my gmail merged with this, personally.

What about mobile apps? I'm not sure what you're getting at. I'm confused.
In my experience the Android suite doesn't do a very good job of "tying all my my google shit together." It's mostly there in one place, but it's not a very good experience.

I think Google + looks like a cleaner version of Facebook with some different features. Which is honestly enough for me. Can't say that I think one is significantly better looking than the other, but I'd give the edge to Google + based on the screens above.

the reality is that people only care about google+ simply because it's not facebook. kind of like social hipsters. when facebook copies all of these features within a month plus has 700 million more users, people will still use google. why? cuse it's google of course

I'm not liking the cosmetic changes to Calendar though. I want my two tone event slots on my calendar back. Don't like the single color slots at all. Colors all look more pastel.

The only thing I really want is private messages. And what others have said about not allowing reshare before sharing something. Oh and possibly a Gmail counter in the top bar (not really + related but yeah).

Other than that, pretty damn cool.

Edit: Oh and possibly being able to see if someone's online?

I find it odd that people asked for information from you earlier and you follow with this absolutely worthless post. Either provide information - the negative things you're hearing about G+ - or at least do us the courtesy of not putting filler nonsense in the thread.
