maybe not completely but i'm sure people said the same about music/movie streaming. game streaming will improve over time and it will be "good enough" for the average consumer. local gaming will exist for enthusiasts just like vinyl/bluray exists for music/movie enthusiasts.

and yeah i know what onlive is lol. it was insignificant. offerings from Sony/MS/Nvidia and even Google were far better than that trash.
They said the exact same thing a decade ago, yet here we are.

Hard to compare music and movies with games. It's a whole another world.
You can't mod or customize your games on stream, not to mention for those who live in third world countries with garbage connections.
No, thanks i'd rather keep playing locally. Plus, last thing i need is keep adding input lag in a multiplayer game.

Just an update for those arriving now and believing this, It is fake, fake, fake and fake. There is not a shred of truth to it and the account owner has admitted that he did it as joke to get a rise out of people.

Jesus. The 'source' isn't even remotely credible in the slightest. Not to mention their comparison to Google play music doesn't even make sense (the service is still going)

I think it was good tech that Google didn't know what to do with. No one is going to look at this service as an alternate way to buy games digitally. But there was.so.much untapped potential in the free to play social gaming space. .

At this point to invest in a new Google product you have to surely be an idiot. Sick to death of them pulling this sort of shit.

Edit: unless fake which seems likely

Good. The less successful streaming is the better for consumers. It's inevitable that it will replace local gaming some day (it's any publisher's end game and wet dream) but the later this happens the better.

Consoles are hard to get by and yet Google fails to capitalize on it by offering a meaty service without the need of a console. There is also no reason xCloud and GF Now are better than Stadia given Googles potential and yeah I tried Stadia and xCloud. Stadia is terrible. xCloud is the best, better than PS Now also. Haven''t tried GF but heard from numerous sources its good.

To elaborate I found Stadia feel laggy, while I couldn't really notice I was streaming during xCloud. And google offers purchases on top of a fucking sub. Like, how. That business model deserves to be fucking killed.

Yeah I'm probably not a casual but I love modding my games.
Wouldn't trade that for anything.

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
I tried stadia for a month. It was decent for certain games but terrible for genre's like racing. Geforce now works better IMO.

The fun thing is, Google had a bunch of (supposedly...) super smart and extremely well payed people come up with all this shit, yet the only ones who saw Stadia becoming a huge failure from a mile away were your regular basement-dwelling videogame nerds.
This proves yet again, how utterly pathetic big corporations and their circle of "experts" are. It's not like this was a single incident - it literally happend more than 30 (!) times in video game history: Big company doesn't know shit about video games and the videogame market, has no exclusives and obviously doesn't understand the significance of exclusive games, yet still believes you can still enter said market and be successful.

Never invest in a Google service. They love to just kill them off for seemingly no reason. When they killed off Inbox, I stopped relying on them for long term services.

Theres a reason why they were getting rid of those chromecast with stadia controller bundles for only 19.99 last year.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
it has not even lived properly
Yeah it did. It was a shitty product that no one needed. It lived the only life it could, short, torturous and pointless.
This is the inevitable.

It copied the exact same flawed business)pricing model all previos streaming services had and failed miserably bacause of it, so Stadia was pretty much designed to fail, a.k.a. DOA.

If true, the 8 stadia subscribers who actually bought games on this board will be scammed. Bad form and will scare others away from any other new digital based services.

I think it’s time that we acknowledge the elephant in the room which is Phil Harrison’s touch of death. He was part of Sony with the woeful PS3 launch, he moved to Xbox around the Xbox One launch and now he’s part of the Stadia. Don’t think I didn’t notice you, Harrison

I legit thought they closed down a year ago, so I'm impressed in a way. Had no idea Stadia was a thing anymore, it's not like anyone's spoken of it in years.

I purchased Baldur’s Gate 3 through them to check it out one day in it’s final form. I don’t have a competent gaming PC and haven’t since 360/PS3 era.

Very curious to see what happens, if I’m just out the purchase price, don’t see a refund coming but something, anything would be nice.

Just want to play that game man.

Anyone want my free 6 month code. Send me a PM. let’s see what last longer.

I think we all knew this was coming.

im assuming they’ll just offer downloads. They probably just team up with Epic Games. To transfer their library.

I wonder if Sony will buy the tech.

I wonder if Sony will buy the tech.

google doesn't have any special tech (outside of the controller that connects directly to WIFI)
the reason it's so much better than PSnow (or now just PS+ Premium or whatever I guess) is that it's not using consoles as the video source.

Microsoft is adjusting their pipeline to be more like how Stadia and Geforce Now work, in that it send the frame buffer directly to the user instead of going through the HDMI output, which is how xCloud and PSnow both work right not.
that way of capturing trhough HDMI and sending the video feed is a ridiculously awful way to stream a game because it adds a shitload of latency compared to Stadia and GeForce Now.

what these PC based services also have is usually better performance and a less saturated GPU, which also reduces latency straight on the server itself.
Stadia also encouraged developers to strip out graphical effects that are hard to stream due to compression artifacts, which is also something the console based services can not really do as they usually just run the plain console version of the game.

so all the things that make GeForce Now and Stadia so much better compared to PSnow is stuff that Sony can not even use without completely changing how their service works by running everything off of a PC not a modified console board
