I will revise my previous impressions, as I do think the 2nd half of the album seems to get back on track. Every rap song on the album derails the album though. Stylo didn't even need a "featuring Mos Def" credit if you ask me. If you ignore the first few songs though, it is the most cohesive album to date. I still think the debut is better overall.

I dont like empire ants much, loving On melancholy hill! I find the second half of the album to be a bit more relaxed than the first half, nice change of pace.

love on your sleeve
Pirate's Progress seems like a better ending than Pirate Jet. Brings the album full circle really well.

I enjoyed it, but I feel that it's a step back from Demon Days. I could listen to Demon Days as a full album and it was really cohesive, but there were alot of singles I could enjoy by themselves. Though saying that I still really enjoyed Rhinestone Eyes and Empire Ants.

I fucking love Demon Days. I didn't discover it until someone lent me the Live at Manchester DVD either, and I experienced it all in one go. Suddenly it all made sense and I fell in love with the album. Before I had only listened to the odd single, and didn't think much of them.

I can't wait 'til I can listen to this album high-quality and skip songs :lol

Loving it so far. Rap normally turns me off, but Gorillaz have always done it in a flavour I can swallow. This is no different, and the rest of it is amazing as always. Go Damon!

Because I'm listening to the Japanese Import, I feel that's the only thing that connected the first half to the second.

Listening to it right now. "Rhinestone Eyes" is amazing. Definitely going to be dropping coin on the limited edition.

why do so many of you guys dislike rap?
Is it really that hard to understand? I mean most people's awareness of Rap is from all the mainstream stuff that is full of pure lyrical vomit.

As far as this stuff goes, I personally have no problem with the rap on any of the Gorillaz albums.

I hate to be a dickhead but this is a video game board. What percentage of people even bought the Gorillaz LP on release day with the knowledge that Dan the Automator and Dangermouse were the two hip-hop producers of the "moment?"

I was like 10 at the time so I sure as hell didn't know that :lol

I am addicted to this album. I've been jamming to it like 3 times a day and I've replayed On Melancholy Hill a little too often to keep count. The last few tracks are kinda filler but I love the rest.

I actually really like the production behind the Snoop song. That constant note that turns into those synthesized horns are fucking awesome. I just don't care for the Snoop verse. I actually like White Flag as a song more than Stylo. The same goes for Sweepstakes. As songs they are fine...they just don't seem to fit on the album at all.

Personally I think they're going with horrible single choices though. White Flag should have been the first one, it had such a badass grimy beat and the lebanese orchestra was cool too.

Also Welcome to the World would have also been a great introduction.

Then throw in some "Rhinestone Eyes" and "On Melancholy Hill".

This is one those albums that gets better, the more you listen to it. At first I thought it was crap. Now I love it. First few tracks are rubbish, but things get better after Rhinestone Eyes. Smooth sailing...no pun intended.

I was in sixth or seventh grade when the first album came out. I bought it because I loved the Clint Eastwood video :p Guess I made a smart choice :lol

I don't know. I think "Stylo" is perfect for the video. Is there even radio that would play this kind of music anyway? It's all about the story they're telling in the films at this point.

Hm... can't really understand why people love Rhinestone Eyes so much. I've only gotten about half way so far and I've enjoyed pretty much everything. Rhinestone Eyes is just a bit meh for my tastes.

This. I totally just tried to say something orginal, but your right this song is just good...

The tones used in the chorus in Some Kind of Nature makes me feel as if a sonic worm is flowing around my mind. Soo gooood.

I've been loving all the crazy beats, tones, synths the last few days. Lots of good flow that just makes me happy. So happy this album is available to listen to to help bring in the spring time. It makes me want to dance nearly every song.

i dont know why but the tune in stylo reminds me of something out of crhono trigger.

Exactly what I thought.

Also, Casa Bey from Mos Def's "The Ecstatic" sounds like something out of one of the 2D Sonic games.

G-Sides is easily the best Gorillaz album. The EP format benefits the album greatly because one common problem with Gorillaz albums is that they are overly long, typically over 15 tracks. I'm of the opinion that lean albums are better. self-titled and Demon Days, although awesome, have a shit ton of filler and average tracks. G-Sides is awesome from beginning to end.

Demon Days is fantastic, every track is fucking awesome, except maybe White Light.

Other than that, the album is super from start to finish.

You shut your whore mouth. Don't talk shit about White Light ;)

Also, i think my favourite track may well be White Flag on PB, i think it's that funky tune in the background.

Listening to the stream... Sweetstakes is on atm.
The album is ok, but I´m really missing some of the stuff along the lines of "dare" "19/2000" "Rock the House" or "Clint Eastwood" or "El Manana"...

Maybe I need to listen to the album a few more times, but right now the other albums seem more ... melodic to me.

Ha Ha l was on the verge of quoting that :)

His Salford roots really come through there and that laugh near the end of the track is awesome.
I'm really warming to Glitter Freeze, its got a great low end groove to it that just chugs along.

I saw the guys from the Hypnotic Brass ensemble (2nd song) a few years ago playing outside on Dam Square in Amsterdam...

So trippy to see theyre featured on a Gorillaz album now.

I just looked them up on itunes out of sheer boredom about an hour ago.

i bought their latest album, and this shit is excellent

I wasn't crazy about it at first, but now the album is awesome after a few listens. Rhinestone Eyes, Superfast Jellyfish, Stylo, On Melancholy Hill, Broken, and Sweepstakes are awesome!
