melancholy hill makes me want to go sit on a hill and be melancholy. It's awesome.

Btw, imo this CD is only missing one happy-mood song like 19-2000 or Feel Good Inc. It just might be a bit too 'dark' compared to the first and (to a lesser extent) second albums.

Like, everything seems a bit too convoluted, a bit noisy if you ask me. Listening to 19-2000 is so calming:

I dunno bout you but I cant stop listening to empire ants and thinking about this:

man, the way she sings it, when the synth kicks in, I imagine making love to her on a plastic beach somewhere...

Some Kind of Nature is definitely my favourite track right now.

I love Lou Reed. One of my favorites too.

Melancholy Hill and Some Kind of Nature are BIG TIME growers. Keep listening. I didn't like either of them at first. Now I love them. Some kind of nature has some beautiful melodies in it, and Melancholy Hill is just a really uplifting song.

And a side note. I dunno if it's been posted but

Stylo Remix (Labrinth Remix ft. Tinie Tempah)

Is reeeeaaaallllly fucking good.
Holy shit that is fucking bangin'. I would love for that to see commercial release somewhere

I did post this remix earlier, but it still deserves all the attention. Amazing.

good god, man

I don't think Melancholy Hill is a grower at all. As soon as it came on it hit me instantly. I knew I would love it.

I would probably say Glitter Freeze and Broken will be growers. Some Kind of Nature is also instant-awesome. It's the only song out of all of them that gives me this instant music video in my head.

There hasn't been a single song I haven't enjoyed on this album.
This is some tight stuff.

P.S
Cloud of Unknowing is amazing.

Just listened to it all the way through again. You guys are right about a lot of the songs being growers, at this point I even like Sweepstakes a little more.

And Some Kind of Nature really clicked for me the third time through.

I just want to say, that after Empire Ants, Broken is the best song on this album. The song is just fantastic.

Properly listened to the stream and it's great. I have to say that "On Melancholy Hill" is utterly fantastic. I must've replayed that 50 times when I heard it. Rhinestone Eyes, oh yes. That's definitely a goody.

California Chronicle:

- Superfast Jellyfish is scheduled to be the second single with On Melancholy Hill being the third later in the year
- there will be 'extensive' live shows throughout the year including UK dates, but they are doing few festivals this summer as they would prefer to do mostly their own headline shows first
- a 'large number of guests' from Plastic Beach will be onstage
- the Coachella show will not be streamed on Gorillaz.com but at least one later one will be
- there are plans for a new 'storybook'
- discussions are going on with a number of brands

Album is definitely pretty good, but a grower. Didn't really like it too much upon first listen through, but it really started growing on me

Whoa.

Following the video debut of Stylo on YouTube tomorrow (Tuesday), Morrison reveals that a key element of the online activity will be the launch of a subscription-only element of www.gorillaz.com that will provide exclusive content to participants for an annual fee of pounds 29.99.

Devised in partnership with merchandise and online specialists All Access Today, the site's subscription element will, according to Morrison, provide paying Gorillaz fans with exclusivity including access to online content, subscription-only live events, ticket priority and a toy - possibly a submarine, according to Morrison - designed by Hewlett.

As a fan of their last album I had a lot of hype for this one, which made me believe that it was a really good album during my first play through. But in all honesty, I'd give this a good 6-10. It's really all over the place. There's no certain sound that the album sticks with.

I'd say that Miike Snow's debut album, although "apples to oranges", is still somewhat similar to the Gorillaz style and out does this new album in every aspect. If there are any big fans that are disappointed in this, I'd advise you to pick up Miike Snow and check it out.

I'm sad that the awesomeness of Plastic Beach has been completely overshadowed by my rediscovery of the Soulchild remix of 19-2000. I've listened to it about 200 times the past couple of days. One of my favorite songs ever.

Everyone needs to buy Superfast Jellyfish a few times when it becomes the single...Gruff Rhys needs some mainstream recognition.

My copy of the Experience Edition arrived today. Gave the whole thing another listen through and, whilst I don't think it quite matches the highs of Demon Days, it is certainly a fantastic piece of musical artistry. I will be listening to this near constantly on my iPhone for weeks to come, I can imagine.

Now, off to grab those web features.

Alrighty, just perused the entire thing; quick and dirty review of the Experience Edition:

Packaging - glossy, sturdy and visually interesting. The artwork is really cool. The 16-page booklet is a little too designed to be practical as an easy-to-use lyric guide, but is a nice addition.

Making of DVD - Messy and unfocused, lacking in any real detail or substance. A series of video snapshots of the construction process that never explains, just presents. Highlights include the work in progress Plastic Beach model and character details being explained to the singers (for example, Russel is now a giant, having consumed so much polluted plastic debris during his swim to the island). Really, this has just served as a massive cock-tease for the eventual B-sides release, as there is a lot of music to be heard that never made the album, either as a remix or at all. Brief clip of The Horror's studio work towards the end.

Web content - Really sparse right now. The Plastic Beach game isn't available yet, nor (obviously) the live show stream. There is a neat "welcome to plastic beach" tour video narrated by an always-hilarious Murdoc and the wallpaper selection is rather large, consisting mostly of images from the Experience Edition packaging. There are two screensavers which I haven't sampled yet and a digital copy of the EE booklet.

Worth it? - As it's only a couple of quid extra, sure, though you're mostly purchasing potential for the web content to become something awesome.

I think I may get the deluxe version on iTunes. The deluxe is way to expensive for the physical version and this way I get the 2 extra songs also. Anyone know the bitrate of iTunes vs. a cd?

Damn shame White Flag and Broken won't be singles.

Unfortunately, White Flag's intro prevents it from being a single. I guess they can cut it but it won't be the same. I'm just happy On Melancholy Hill will be a single. :D

mattiewheels

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Damon's vocal on Broken sounds Bowie-esque to me, made me wonder how the actual Bowie would sound as a guest star...

I didn't really feel the cd as well. I've already dropped a few songs from songbird and am pretty meh on most of them. Rhinestone Eyes is pretty good though.

I enjoyed the CD but I feel like theres no standout tune on it. I enjoyed it more consistently that Demon Days, but the best of that CD is the best of Gorillaz.

I listened at work the other day but couldn't get a very good feel I guess since I have to play music pretty quietly since using headphones is out of the question. My first impression though was too much hip-hop. I might be completely off and enjoy it when listening with headphones, but I wasn't very impressed. I'd like a new record from The Good, The Bad and the Queen...
