At Cleveland auto show. Can't they let a man admire cars and take pictures without asking if I have questions every 2 minutes?

Should have asked if they could leave you alone. I hate that kind of shit too.:/

It really doesn't bother me that a few extremely rare, historic cars are very expensive: they should be. That makes them special. There is an incredible variety of affordable cars for you to drive, but you whine incessantly because you can't have cars X, Y and Z right away. Fine, I guess. You made your point. Now, please, inform us of this a bit less frequently.
It's not so much that, it's that if you have earned 20mil Cr and want to buy one of the 5(?) cars worth that much in the game, you HAVE to grind to earn another 20mil to get one of the others. You can't earn more money than that cap and once you buy one of those cars you can't even modify the thing because you have zero credits. This game makes grinding completely unavoidable if you want to own more than one of those.

So, so many poor design decisions in this game, and what do they do to fix them? Lock the game down even further with shithouse seasonals and restricting car gifting! I honestly can't think of another developer that has managed to make so many consistently poor decisions without thinking them through.

I think I need to give this thread a miss for a while... all it does is frustrate me. Unless they release a 2.0 patch that fixes half the stuff I'm pissed about, I'm just going to end up ranting :lol

You may as well unleash your ranting here...you'll feel better for letting it out ^_^

There's only the hardcore GT players still reading this thread anyway, and most of us here agree the game has some shocking decisions and problems. You articulated much better what I was trying to say before, that locking the game down even further with seasonals that no longer pay millions and the nonsense girft car restriction are exactly the sort of quirks that GT games need less of, not more.

"This car cannot be given to a friend"
"You must be Level X to buy to this car"
"You cannot sell a car you are currently driving"
"You must get into a car to enter the License Centre"
"You do not have dirt tyres equipped"

...it goes on and on. This is exactly the sort of bullshit that needs sorting out for good. The whole GT design has gone far beyond [jovial]oh, it's just GT's way[/jovial] and has actually become irritating, and it's really put me off getting GT6, unless I know it's changed. I'd like to think Sony/PD have gotten the message, but I'm not sure they have.

Feel bad posting these here, but for those that care:

Took like 70 some shots of some great cars, but the quality is lacking in plenty. The lighting is killer in the IX center and I just didn't come prepared for it. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but it's one of the few places I know that people would appreciate them.

They even had that new Porsche sedan on display. I first saw it on Top Gear US, and it surprisingly looks better in person.

I was bummed at how small the BMW area was. Basically had a single vehicle from each 1, 3, 5 series car line. Then like 3 Minis, and that was it.

As expected, GM stole a lot of space for their cars that show nothing but the fact they still just "don't get it". How GMC survived over Pontiac and Saturn is just beyond me.
Ford had some fairly interesting stuff though.

Was a good time, though would have been better without the crushing migraine.

Formula GT gold'd (upgraded from the shameful 4th place). Two races need to be retried and one Nascar event gold'd and then I have only 6 races to go in A-Spec (all endurances)

Haha, Offshore, I know you're probably very irritated by this, but all of your examples are 100% logical in terms of gameplay :)

"This car cannot be given to a friend" - applies only to Stealth and Chrome line cars, GT Academy cars and cars more expensive than 1 million (as for 1.07 update). I am among those rare players who really do not find problematic both facts regarding expensive cars - that they can't be gifted and that money cap sits at 20 million, emptying your pockets when you buy 20 mil car. But hey, they's just me :)

"You must be Level X to buy to this car" - even without Seasonal Events introduction, leveling through Lv24 was very easy only with Licenses and Special Events. You had to gold them for quick path to Lv 24, but it really wasn't that hard (with all permanent and non-permanent assists on disposal). And I liked the fact that certain level had to be reached in order to get high-tier cars.

"You cannot sell a car you are currently driving" - Logical and same since the first GT.

"You must get into a car to enter the License Centre" - you always had to buy the initial car?

"You do not have dirt tyres equipped" - if you had them bought and equipped, you could enter the dirt races. What is the problem? :))

I don't know. It is very hard for me to digest majority of complaints regarding gameplay/design segments of GT5 just because almost all of them fits perfectly into initial philosophy of GT series which I grow with for past 13 years.

I can understand that some other games introduced their more "approachable" way to gameplay and design, but I really fail to understand why should GT change its ways because they are unique, genuine and faithful to it's roots. :)

He's not talking about what they mean, but what you have to do to rectify it. For example, "You need dirt tyres" shouldn't just be a message with an OK button. It should give you the option (in the very least) to go to the parts area to buy some. Not force you to wade through the menus. "You cannot sell a car you're currently in". How about a button on that screen for "Change car" rather than just OK?

None of those statements on their own are out-and-out bad, it's that there's no user-friendly way to rectify them. There are other games that do that sort of thing and whilst it may appear to be a fairly basic thing to implement, it shows a complete lack of forethought of what end users might go through that you have to navigate back and forth so often.

Because like Shaneus says, there are better ways of handling it :)

If you're just entering Arcade for fun, the game could say "Okay, you know what, you don't have dirt or snow tyres equipped, but I tell you what I'll do, I'll loan you some dirt/snow tyres right here, right now, just for this session - it'll cost you 500 cr. But I'll install them right now so you don't have to go back through menus and equip them."

And then if you want to enter a race for credits and XP, the game could say "look, I know I loaned you some tyres before, but this time, you're going to have buy them. Do you want to buy them and install them now, instead of having to exit and go back through menus to get them installed?"

It's the same for the others; there are just better solutions to these messages that come up, rather than a point blank "sorry Dave, can't do that", or "whoa, sorry dude, that's not allowed."

For me, like PT says, after 5 editions, these kind of things are just old. Now I'm not stupid, I know there are many people who like the way GT is designed, and like the continuation that GT5 has taken. I...just don't. GT5 feels like a game I've played four times previously. GT can still be GT, and everything that it stands for and represents, without having to follow exactly the same game structure of previous games.

I mean, why do I have to buy a car to enter the licence centre? The very first thing I did in GT Life was go to enter the license centre, it says I need to buy a car, so I buy one, and then the car I buy is never used in any of the licenses. I bought that Honda Jazz for nothing ^_^

To give noobies some road signs? I don't know and quite frankly, I don't even care. Buying the car takes like 40 seconds and you can rage through tons of cups with your beginning car.

And you are not going to walk or take the train to the license centre, are you? :p

All I want is that Parts Shop and maybe even GT Tune icons were on every menu (just like Garage-icon)

When was it sent to you? I just put in a time on the GT Academy and wasn't sent the car.

Anyone know if I missed a cut off time or something?

Wondering if that million dollar limit is "around" a million. I have the Toyota RSC Rally Raid car in the UCD for $976k. I try to buy it and gift it and get denied - "This car cannot be given to a friend". Really? This just keeps getting better...

I don't even think they have to do that. Just let you sell the car and put you back in your garage to get in another one. If people are too stupid to not realize that they have to get in another car before entering a race, then there's no hope for humanity.

amar, I don't find problematic the inability to dupe/gift any cars (i haven't duped a single car in this game some far), or the finances cap (i don't collect all cars in the game), but I can easily see how it could be problematic for other people.

Saying 'A is not problematic for me, ergo everybody should be ok with A' is a bit egocentrical. I know we all feel like defending our favorite games (and I bought a friggin ps3 for gt5, until homebrew arrived, that is) but let's try to be a bit reasonable here.

And you didn't like the fact you had to have piles of money to get the higher-tier cars? Would you prefer if there was yet another obstacle when buying cars in the game? Something along 'Reputation points', so you'd need to have the money, the experience, and the reputation, to be allowed to a car? Would that make the game more rewarding for you? /half-serious

"You cannot sell a car you are currently driving" - Logical and same since the first GT.
It's not logical, it's historical. And the game can handle 'i have no current car ATM' situation just fine - that's how the game starts - you have no car.

"You must get into a car to enter the License Centre" - you always had to buy the initial car?
Because you drive your car in the LC?

"You do not have dirt tyres equipped" - if you had them bought and equipped, you could enter the dirt races. What is the problem? :))
The problem is tens of seconds worth of menu clicking. For no apparent reasons.

I don't know. It is very hard for me to digest majority of complaints regarding gameplay/design segments of GT5 just because almost all of them fits perfectly into initial philosophy of GT series which I grow with for past 13 years.
You need to step out of the loop sometimes : )

I can understand that some other games introduced their more "approachable" way to gameplay and design, but I really fail to understand why should GT change its ways because they are unique, genuine and faithful to it's roots. :)
So, erm, they should have stayed with GT4 physics too? ; ) Games and gameplay concepts evolve. Why are we buying new GTs anyway?

Personally I don't understand why this game had a Veyron and online play. I mean those weren't in the first games so why should they be in this one?

edit: Also what's up with that 200+ premium cars nonsense? The first game made do with PS1-era graphics so clearly PS1-era graphics should be just fine for GT5 as well.

Hyperbole is fun. There are issues with this game whether you want to admit it or not. It's been the only disc in my PS3 since it launched, but I'll be damned if I'm not frustrated with some of the inane decisions PD have made every time I play.

gamebroker you're on GAF, you'd better get used to bitching....especially in GT threads when we're on the rollercoaster going downnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn...

Power supply to the house willing, the 24 hours of N'Ring should be done when I get home tonight. Finally completing the long grind of B-spec.

Probably wouldn't have tried before they upped the XP, but it's still been a loooong road.

Will be setting all my drivers to Online after this so those of you who added me before will be able to add 6 extra drivers for remote B-spec. I'm going to keep running remote B-spec too.

The comment was a tad stupid, yes, but if all Sony's PR/Marketing department is concerned with is shilling crappy threads with GT's logo on it then I think that shows what they care about more, rather than helping to fix PD's broken game with the community.

Sony's marketing people have propably very little to do with development. PD has plenty of communication channels between all their US producers, EU producers and community managers. Despite the fact that Kaz has an executive role at SCE, PD operates independently from Sony. Their seemingly slow acting on consumer feedback has propably more to do with them being a japanese studio. Everything has to go though a dozen different channels before it can be put out: translation, regional QA etc. And I'm willing to bet they're already knee-deep into production for whatever their next project is, so they have to find a way to pry resources from that to work on an already released game. I admire that they're still willing to listen to their community and actually patch in meaningful stuff, treating the game more like a service instead of just shitting it out and be done with it.

People seem to expect absolute perfection from the GT series even though there's no such thing. If you're unhappy with the product there's a slew of other racing games they can go to. Sometimes it just sounds like bitching for the sake of bitching(I'm not aiming this at you, Mush)

Also I ordered one of those shirts a few days ago. I'm part of the problem. :(

Under different circumstances I could have sent you one of mine (I'm a RUF aficionado), but as it is I'm cut off from PSN. If that is any consolation, the CTR is not *that* rare in the used lot - I saw it a few times during the last couple of days, while hunting for the F1 GT - now that's an elusive vehicle. You can just do the License Centre 'empty days passage' trick, and you'll most likely get the bird within half an hour or so.

I should have 3 drivers ready for remote racing, most about level 35-38 (I was level 40 on Bspec before the remote racing patch came out).PSN is andylsun.

Will start contributing now I can post.

The thing I don't get about those GT T-shirts is that the GT logo is barely visable on any of them. This is the kind of t-shirt they need to selling, as modelled by Translator-san

If they sold something like that I'd be all over it.
