I understood your point exactly. You are - intentionally or not it doesn't matter - ignoring how we define "superior" when talking about someone punching down. And you're still doing it. In this quoted post. I has nothing to do with the puncher or punchee necessarily making value judgements. That is the entire problem with punching down: it is often done by mistake. GTA developers/writers, who are employed by a multi-national media company and supported by millions of fans who will support them, mocking one class of people, with little power, for nothing other than being a member of that class of people is a form of "punching down." Period. It doesn't mean that you can't make a joke about - even an offensive one - this group of individuals. It means maybe you should take a teeny-tiny minute or two and make sure the folks you are targeting for mockery could reliably do the same in return; you can not have "comradery" or "peership" in a power imbalance.
. . .or just keep with the strict literal and inflexible definitions you've been using up to this point. That works too.

Pathetic, but unsurprising, considering their now predatory monetization model of GTA Online which became the fattest laurels they could hope to sit on for a whole 10 fucking years. When you do GTA V numbers, you are no longer in a position to satirize the establishment, you ARE the establishment.
GTA built its name on toxic humor, without that it is toothless.

I am not complaining about representation. Merely pointing out what has been leaked informs me that their product isn't for me so I won't be buying it go forward. I'm not even that big of a GTA fan to begin with. But if you take the satire out of the game it loses much of what made it entertaining to begin with.
You also need to actually learn what a complaint is. Merely saying that that I am not interested in a product based on information leaked about it is not complaining but acknowledging a certain product isn't one that appeals to me. You are also implying in your response I have a problem with a female Hispanic protagonist. I never implied that or said that. I have zero problem with that.

GTA Online is a separate mode and even app from the main GTAV.
This game will have the GaaS stuff built into the single-player game.

The term punching down is something people use to silence those they disagree with. The term in itself implies you consider a certain group inferior, which is kind of offensive in itself. Jokes have nothing to do with "punching" btw. Jokes are not attacks.
And I'm fine with a company being "kinder" but what I've learned over the years is "kind" isn't what you'd think it is. "Kind" means adhering to a certain ideology, not just generally treating people with more respect.

Certainly some worrying info there. GTA has never spared or taken it easy on any group, so I don't see why anyone should get special treatment now. But of course that's not supporting "the message", and we can't have that.
At least the Bonnie & Clyde description doesn't sound too bad. That's the only way you can legitimately have a woman play a starring role in this kind of crime story, so at least they haven't totally lost their minds. But they would have been absolutely fine never having a female protag. Martin Scorcese movies don't need it, and neither do GTA games.

Isn't GTA just an online multiplayer game and role play sandbox for twitch streamers, why even bother making a single player game ?
I doubt they can even making anything like the old GTA games that poked fun at the extreme left/right, given the radical transformation of western corporate culture over the past several years.

Same. Just make sure the game is fun and has great controls. That's all I care about with a game like GTA. A good story would be nice, but that's not as important to me as great immersion and gameplay.

I'm fine with all of this. Shake the formula up a bit. A female protagonist sounds awesome.
A lot of the attempts at "punching down" humor in GTA5 and even a lot of GTA4 was just cringy as shit. You can still have morally compromised characters and gameplay without needing to unfairly attack marginalized groups for what would amount to nothing more than a cheap laugh. Hopefully with the less time spent on that stuff means there will be stronger efforts placed into the other areas of writing and design.

GTA doesn't just punch down - that's total bullshit. It spends most of its time making fun of mainstream American culture, not marginalised people. It's always been an equal opportunity satirizer. The worst potential news here is that they are repeating a city. I like Vice City as much as everyone else here, but I was really hoping that they'd finally make a game not based on somewhere in California, New York, or Florida.
Anyway, it's just a small gripe of mine. Now to get back to the real topic at hand with multiple pages of posters arguing if a woman protagonist is a good thing for a 2020s video game.

Its a good idea that they reeled back the size and instead will be releasing new islands and story missions more regularly throughout its lifespans.
Its sucks having a huge campaign then nothing for several years.
RDR2 was 50hrs long, i would prefer 25hrs at launch and then 15hr DLCs ever year.

I guess it is a departure for the main story in a GTA to be a romance, but at least it isn't a film/tv drama genre they haven't already plagiarized to hell and back in the name of "ironic homage". I'd be surprised if it was a central a focus for the dev team as it used to be, as the online is seen as more important now.
