Dude must have eaten the entire taco bell menu to have all of that in him...Actually this part is hyper realistic, Sam simply shat himself thinking of all the precious cargo he just lost.

Kojima does this to some people.DS2 looks good and seems like a natural evolution from the first one.
But saying it has got the best graphics? Are people blind?
Some snippets of gameplay there.

I don't know, wasn't blown away the first one on release.Don't worry, sushima2 is gonna be the real showcase![]()
Lighting is last generation stuff, all the talk of this being a showcase and this is what we get. PS5 guys will be blown away when they play HB2 (by the graphics I mean).
We all kinda suspected its gonna be like that, cutscenes character models are top notch coz we know that dev studio is capable of amazing things, they already proved it on last gens ps4 with ds1 character models, but in terms of overall graphic fidelity in gameplay hard to compete with hb2 when its 30fps and well below 1080p on series x while ds2 is 1440p60 on base ps5, thats easily over 4x amount of pixels "wasted" for image quality vs what hb2 did, and ofc something had to give, u know best it had to be this way, that 1440p resolution and 60fps made sure in gameplay graphical fidelity is relatively low.Played a couple of hours of death stranding 2 and man this is as last gen as it gets. This isnt even ps4.5 like demon souls or ratchet, this is like do spiderman 2 at best. The lighting is barely better than last gen. There are some decent looking ground level detail but everything else looks last gen at best. The foliage, the rocks and mountains, draw distance. Volumetric lighting effects. Everything.

Cutscenes look a generation ahead. Phenomenal work here in terms of lighting and level of detail.

I was ironicI don't know, wasn't blown away the first one on release.
Switch2 port, is that u?
The devs didn't even upgraded sand and snow from fw, they left everything the same.
And people is mad when we call these fuckers lazy...
Fucking dune awakening and sw outlaws have better sand ffs...
Those rocks are still ugly and lack proper shadowing.yeah, that ain't nice. Wonder what's wrong there; seems the engine is fucking up the draw-distance details at times for whatever reason. Aren't you even playing it on the Pro?
When everything chimes in perfectly, I think it's a beautiful-looking cross-gen game, though:

I don't see it, thought I was pickyThose rocks are still ugly and lack proper shadowing.
A triple A with sony money behind should not lose in tech against a freakin funcom survival game...I know nothing about the dune game, but I feel like it should have some pretty top tier sand considering.
That's the entire theme of the planet.
Impressive in this thread means impressive for current gen visuals, aka well above avg what ps5/xsx can produce currently.@ everyone here.
What does "Impressive" mean when you use it?
It should when discussing games refer to "impressive for the hardware it was developed for"......and yet It constantly seems to be used instead to showcase visuals that are either "Aestheticly pleasing to the individual" or as a way of celebrating the quality of the artists treatment of the assets to overcome hardware shortcomings. Non of which falls under "impressive for the hardware" which IMO is what the term has always implied. Especiall in threads like this dedicated to "graphic fidelity".

Slimy working harder than a dirty AIPAC-backed politician whore to downplay & defame Death Stranding 2's level of visual quality.
Lazy? Are you sure they're lazy? This game has more development time, work & budget went into it than both SW Outlaws & Dune Awakening combined, let's not get crazy, just point out the graphical inconsistencies & reliance on traditional techniques rather than calling the whole product lazy or calling the developers of this product lazy. The devs didn't even upgraded sand and snow from fw, they left everything the same.

I understand your frustration, but uttering the word "lazy" ain't it, it makes us look like 4Channers or something...
"Unreal 5.6". There isn't even a single videogame in this version yet, lmfao. Why have we been seeing sweet ass demos like this for the past 5+ years yet never see any of it implemented in actual games?
Its a bunch of fixed textures just scaling up/down, popping in and out and rotating with the camera. It's a decent bit of fakery that'd be at home on a good PS4 game, but "INSANE"..?!
I called it months ago when I took a dump in DS2 and said people are only hyping up its visuals because of Koj.Yeah this must be the biggest case of collective delusion i've seen in a hot minute since maybe indiana jones...
I agree its not the generational jump it could have been, but DS2 still one of the best looking open world games ever created. It's not unfair to call the game graphically impressiveYeah this must be the biggest case of collective delusion i've seen in a hot minute since maybe indiana jones but worse.
Like how can you fucking shit on ue5 titles but praise this thing like it's unrivaled?
Do ue5\ubisoft games on console run at low pc settings or something?
Indiana with path tracing is on another level entirely, and it is definitely next-gen (while some choices may be less striking).Yeah this must be the biggest case of collective delusion i've seen in a hot minute since maybe indiana jones but worse.

Compared to what?I agree its not the generational jump it could have been, but DS2 still one of the best looking open world games ever created. It's not unfair to call the game graphically impressive
I saw some pics of indiana that looked like early ps4 stuff, the game is wildly inconsistent.Indiana with path tracing is on another level entirely, and it is definitely next-gen (while some choices may be less striking).
The delusions come from the same side: playstation cross-gen titles or remasters: people saying Horizon Forbidden West or The Last of Us part 1 remake are the best looking ever, while they're all clean-up versions of ps4 games.
My point exactly. AC Shadows is the only open world game this entire generation that looked certainly better. DS2 shits on Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon's Dogma 2, Cyberpunk(consoles), Starfield, KCD2, Hogwarts LegacyCompared to what?
Outlaws look better or the same at the very least
Avatar look better or the same at the very least
Ac shadow look better
Fw looks barely worse (and someone said that vegetation look better) while being a 3 years old crossgen
Gta6 is gonna dismantle it
Mafia look better except the characters
You have to go into rise of the ronin territory to find an open world that ds2 completely smash in this gen or freakin avoved that can barely be considered an AAA...
Sorry if we expected more from the last iteration of sony best engine.
Defending a dev who doesn't evolve tech from a 3 years old crossgen game make you look a bit like a sony\kojima fanboy, i guess we all have flaws.
Who gives a damn if the game had more time in the oven if some things remained about the same compared to previous iteration of the engine?
Do we praise duke nukem forever because it was in development for like 15 years? No we don't.
I'm not really frustrated, the writing has been on the wall for a while with sony this gen, i just hoped for more from the supposedly best engine on the market
(where the best thing about it, the character models, still comes from ue metahumans)
I Mean yeah if we pick bottom of the barrel japanese stuff that are nowhere near western devs when it comes to graphic, with re engine that is absolutely crap for open world, harry potter that is a crossgen game made by a studio at his first big game, yeah ds2 is impressive alright. My point exactly. AC Shadows is the only open world game this entire generation that looked certainly better. DS2 shits on Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon's Dogma 2, Cyberpunk(consoles), Starfield, KCD2, Hogwarts Legacy
I understand being disappointed, but DS2 is still one of the most gorgeous games this generation
I have great hopes for that game graphics then I greatly lit down from last previews then release, gameplay, and designers did great job but graphics programmers and tech director are lazy as fuc., this alongside sony bullshit direction on graphics and visuals generally this gen, any defend for those losers on a graphics theard Are just bullshitLazy? Are you sure they're lazy? This game has more development time, work & budget went into it than both SW Outlaws & Dune Awakening combined, let's not get crazy, just point out the graphical inconsistencies & reliance on traditional techniques rather than calling the whole product lazy or calling the developers of this product lazy.

If you have a less offensive word with the same meaning, i'm all hears.I understand your point, I wasn't even defending them at all, I don't think saying anything less than "lazy" deems you as defensive of the developer, you can criticize them, I'm with you too, I think their reliance on traditional techniques was the wrong call IMO.
Question for the thread, what would megatextures have been like in today's world? How do you think it would have evolved if id stuck with it?

Didn't they ditched the tech because it was a bitch to work on it?Question for the thread, what would megatextures have been like in today's world? How do you think it would have evolved if id stuck with it?

Indiana falls short because of artistic choices and inconsistencies, yes. But the tech behind it really is up there with the best.I saw some pics of indiana that looked like early ps4 stuff, the game is wildly inconsistent.
Many games achieve incredible graphic without path-tracing, i wasn't super impressed with that one tbh.
If that one is also another level entirely compared to ds2, we really are in the worst timeline for graphic.
TBH, I posted only two screenshots. I really didnt have to work that hard.Slimy working harder than a dirty AIPAC-backed politician to downplay & defame Death Stranding 2's level of visual quality.![]()
Cutscene look a generation ahead.ds2 looks incredible on oled. Screenshots dont
and yes, gameplay looks incredible too. And cutscenes are all real time.

I get it, you're frustrated, I'm disappointed too, it is an inconsistent game when it comes to visual quality, their reliance on traditional lighting & geometry techniques put a damper on it, but it still has that graphical polish to it that you won't see in 99% of other games even those that use Nanite like Black Myth Wukong, that game can look extremely inconsistent to a very bizarre level honestly, you can feel the Sony money here with DS2, it is much more cohesive visually.TBH, I posted only two screenshots. I really didnt have to work that hard.
That said, me taking two screenshots, uploading them on twitter and copy pasting them here is more work than kojipro engineers did to upgrade their engine to allow better for better LODs in the distance. Since they literally did nothing.
Doom 2016 used mega textures and it was ditched with Eternal. There was a big improvement between Rage and Doom 2016 and while Eternal's textures up close, I actually think 2016 looks more gritty especially at a distance. I think it probably would look really good if they kept using it but you would probably need 24 gigs of vram.Didn't they ditched the tech because it was a bitch to work on it?
If rage is anything to go by, it could have been incredible.
Its not puzzleing if ya follow the money and always expect the usual Kojima fan delusions. People will be spitting the same nonsense with the next Naughty Dog Release. The amount of people blowing their minds over this blatantly up-rezzed PS4 game is puzzling.
Kojima went from showing games like mgs2, which didn't even look possible realtime, to ds2, which doesn't look meaningfully better than games from 6 years ago.
