Obi-Wan decided it was in Luke's best interest to not tell Luke that Vader was his father, so I assumed he'd have no reason to mention Leia was his sister, either. Yoda and Obi-Wan both seemed rather conent to keep Luke in the dark in regard to his family and friends, keeping his focus on training and his inevitable confrontation with Vader.
That's all well and good until you come to the exchange between Yoda and Obi-Wan in ESB.

Obi-Wan: That boy was our last hope.
Yoda: No. There is another.

Unless this is some mysterious moment where Yoda speaks to the audience, it's kinda clear he's informing Obi-Wan of something.

It'd hardly be the only time a character in cinema has stated something almost entirely for the benefit of of the audience.

The whole argument is rather ridiculous anyway. Regardless of how Lucas originally planned it, given the dialogue of the OT, Obi-Wan's knowledge of Leia mostly irrelevant. Originally, did he know? Did he not know know? Did he once know and later forget? It fits in almost any way you choose look at it, and it's hardly worth this much discussion.

Leia wasn't originally the sister.

Yes, I remember you pointing that out in the Official thread. Did Lucas condense the story into what we now know as the OT before A New Hope was made, before Empire was made, or just before Jedi?

Just before Jedi.

It's almost like it was done during ESB. At the end of ESB, Leia "senses" Luke in trouble.

Just before Jedi.

Really? Then what's the explanation for the above?

The end of Episode VI was going to have Leia being crowned queen of some planet with Luke looking on knowing he'd lost her forever. The actual Skywalker sister wasn't going to be introduced until Episode VII. The entire last quarter of Jedi with the space battle, ground battle, and throne room scene was in Episode IX at which point Vader was already good and fight alongside Luke to kill the Emperor while the ground battle took place with Wookiees on Kashyyyk.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
Mana,

But what about Leia sensing Luke was in trouble at the end of Empire?

then why did lucas cut the trilogy short? Clearly he had shit-loads of money after the first movie.

And anyway, even with Leia being his sister, and Yoda's comments, Lucas could still have made the prequels fit. Simply having ObiWan not be there at the birth, and Jimmy smits handing over Luke to him without mentioning Leia would have done it.

We've talked about the Death Star thing in the Official thread already. There are a number of explanations for why it took 20 years. First off, it could be the prototype Death Star that was built at the Maw installation. It was basically a frame with a working main gun. That prototype was in one of the books, and the books are not canon, but it's an explanation.

Secondly, exactly how long does it take to buld a "small moon"? Just building the frame could take years, after which you have to fill in miles and miles of hallways, rooms, etc. It would be a huge task to say the least.

As for the second Death Star, we have no indication how long after the start of construction on the first one, they began to build the second. It may have been only a few years later, and it was just nearing completion at the end of Jedi. The second Death Star was said to be larger and more powerful than the first, so clearly they learned things on the first one that were than applied to the second. Building it more quickly may have been one of the things they learned.

The second Death Star was made of spray-painted stucco by low-bid contractors. Fact.

... Don't worry. You're not the worst of the rabid Star Wars fans, that honor goes to shantyman and borghe. It's too bad we don't have more reasonable ones like Kung Fu Jedi, though. The rest of the lot are like, "BLEED FOR LUCAS! PREQUELS FOR LIFE!"

I appreciate being thought of. I just defend something I like, not sit and think of ways to hate it.

What's the psuedo-science explanation for the Death Star's ability to travel from one planet to another so quickly in ANH? Was it able to enter hyper space?

Yes. How else would it get there?

Yes it can enter hyperspace. The book "Darksaber" goes into some detail about the Death Star's creation and testing.

Darksaber was a very cool book. Loved every minute of it too.

It was also the first book of the EU to kill an actual character from the movies. *gasp*

I believe they cut funding for cloning in order to double the speed of the second death star construction. That would also explain why the stromtroopers became so damn stupid by Jedi. :D

They were already stupid by A New Hope.

Well, they were able to capture Leia along with taking out the rebel troops aboard the ship. They did track down the droids to Luke's aunt and uncle and then killed them. They did eventually track Luke and Ben to the cantina. I give them some credit in A New Hope.

Ok, you've got a point there, so maybe just the ones on the Death Star were stupid in ANH! :lol
