Greetings, Trump Supporters! - Full Frontal with Samantha Bee

I don't support Trump other than hoping he wins the primary season so Hillary can win, but the media keeps unfairly targeting him while ignoring the racist homophobic shit the other candidates do. Ted Cruz is supported and has been brought out to stage by several pastors who support the death sentence for gays and that say Jews should burn in hell if they don't switch to Christianity. The media just has a huge target on Trump right now, not because he might be racist, but because the owners of these media outlets don't want someone in office that doesn't support their interests or take money from lobbyists.

You're thinking too much into things, when it can be explained in a much more simple manner: Trump brings in ratings. They're sure as hell not going out of their way to take Trump down. On the contrary, they're the reason he's a viable candidate in the first place, and they know it.

On the other hand, not many people can stand looking at Cruz's face for 30 seconds, better yet listen to him speak.

This is actually pretty enlightening imo. Supporters seem to just enjoy the things he says on the sole basis that no one else says them. Things like declaring mexico will build us a wall. But they ignore everything bad as a minor downside at worst.

What else can you expect? The reason no other politician is saying these things is because they're outright lies or impossibilities. They make no sense. If you're either overlooking those things or not paying attention to them, of course you're going to overlook the implications of banning a religious group from entering the US, or even more blatant xenophobic rhetoric.

It's like people just want someone who speaks (shouts?) like he's going to force everything to be better, like it or not. That's it, they don't care how or if it's even possible. Trump might as well say we're going to colonize Mars for America in the next four years.

The gay black man was particularly frustrating. You can tell the dude is smart, well spoken, isn't your typical moronic Trump "'murica!" supporter, but damn...he's still an idiot.

There are very specific things I would like to see fixed: we spend way too much on defense, we spend way too much sending troops all around the world defending other countries interests, we spend way too much on corporate welfare, we have way too much government meddling, oversight and coddling, and we don't spend enough on basic things like infrastructure (not just roads but WATER as we have seen) and universal healthcare.

Would Trump or Sanders be able to change any of it? I dunno, but they are the two that would most likely try and fail.

Yeah, Trump seems like the one to turn those things around.

Anyway, how old are you? Do tell.

I feel like it's the same guy. I listened to that episode and they're too similar to not be the the same person. Yeah the mental gymnastics by him are incredible.

I originally thought this when I first saw this video a few days ago but looked up a picture and saw that it wasn't

In that case, o god there's 2 of them justifying Trump!?. My brain is breaking at the thought of it.

Yep.

He's almost a celebrity among some supporters that I know here.

This American Life had an episode recently centering around a very similar Drumpf supporter. His ultimate story and the reasons behind his support of Drumpf were fascinating:

http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/580/thats-one-way-to-do-it

This was a great piece. I almost cried at the beginning hearing this stuff he was trying to convince himself ....but then the end made it come full circle. Sad...tbh.

On the video...wow...I thought this was scripted..like I don't believe this is real. Like at all...

Why is Trump, a racist who openly courts white supremacists like no other modern Republican, doing better with people of color than other GOP candidates?

I don't get it. At all.

His swag factor is pretty high. He's loud, brash, a natural entertainer, and the guy exhibits the kind of capitalist vanity that young American males of every racial demographic love.

New Yorker said:
His public performance of gleeful affluence seemed to confirm that Trump, despite being born wealthy, embraced the nouveau-riche dictum that there was no point to having money if you had to then be subtle about it. His enduring presence as a figure of public interest is directly tied to the way he offers an aspirational identity that appeals, in particular, to working-class men.

He's one of the one in ten sanders supporters that will vote for Trump in the general. It's cool, though, because one in four Republicans are less insane than he is and plan to vote for Hillary in the general.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...als-clinton-sanders-trump-president/81612520/

We're a long way from the general. I would like to see some polls about these Republican defectors if/when Trump selects a VP the traditional GOP voter coalesce around, like John Kasich.

Mac would have been for Lindsey Graham.
Dee for Hillary
Charlie for the very smart doctor Ben Carson, those hands...

See, my logic for Mac being for Bernie is that he would he would look at a lot of Bernie's policies in the most exaggerated fashion (ie, "Bernie's going to make us all rich!")

The Charlie one is perfect though.

Yeah, Trump seems like the one to turn those things around.

Anyway, how old are you? Do tell.

Late 40's, almost 50 now. Here's another viewpoint

http://swagger.nyc/posts/sto/my-dad-is-voting-for-trump-and-so-are-theirs

Its unfortunate that so many of the left-ist blogs and posters paint all Trump supporters as racist, sexist, redneck idiots just like Fox News portrays all liberals as communist SJW crusading America-haters, the truth is far more complex but its not like anyone is going to change their minds on a forum.

I love Sam Bee, she has the bite and snark that is totally missing from all the new hosts of late night shows. Haven't watched her show this week yet so will watch tonight.

I freely admit I will probably vote for Trump this fall. As a rich white old male Hillary is totally fine for me, she will not do anything to hurt me and my money will grow even more under her stewardship - my wealth has nearly doubled in the past decade thanks to Wall Street, and she is hard in their pocket. And the country will continue down the path of gridlock, dysfunction, and government getting bigger and bigger every year while doing less and less.

Are a lot of Trump supporters racist? Are most of the things he says a bit insane? Does he say one thing one day and the complete opposite the next? You bet. I'm not stupid, but I rationalize it as him preaching demagoguery to get voted.

A vote for him (or Sanders) though sends the message that "I am frustrated with the current political climate. I don't really know how to tell you to fix things, other than vote for this crazy guy who says he will fix things while the rest of you just say neutered talking points, carefully vetted by your staff."

Hillary is going to touch NONE of those things, she is way too in bed with the political machine to change it, just like Obama didn't touch most of it (Obamacare was a good step I will say but far short of its potential). Would Trump or Sanders be able to change any of it? I dunno, but they are the two that would most likely try and fail.

Yes, the most important thing the next President does is appointing 2-3 SC justices but at my stage in life that really isn't that big a deal to me, and while they will have an impact on my kids and their future I think a return to a functioning government would have a bigger impact and none of the candidates honestly will do that. I really don't know what could, other than some massive catastrophe that breaks up the political machine that cares more about re-elections than governance.

Do you realize that Drumpf wants to "replenish our military to its full strength" because we apparently don't spend enough on it? And that he believes in supply side economics because, well, he IS one of those top earners that pays less taxes than the far less affluent? You are literally voting against your core issues.

Also, I think what comes across as inauthenticity in the video is the sheer misinformation of the voters. Nate Silver on his website pointed to research about Drumpf supporters being some of the most misinformed voters, not to be confused with uninformed ones. Data suggests that these voters not only have been fed misleading information on the issues, information that is statistically debunked, but that they are more stubborn to keep holding them, something that he describes as "blowback". This is why every editorial, every news story, every counter-endorsement to Drumpf only rings true in the opposite sense; everything going against Drumpf is a lie, and he is the only person actually telling the truth in our world of spin. It's fascinating. I don't know the remedy for this, and as the video suggests, it's like a virus that leads to the most ridiculous and talented contortionists I've ever seen.

...*ahem*

Are a lot of Trump supporters racist? Are most of the things he says a bit insane? Does he say one thing one day and the complete opposite the next? You bet. I'm not stupid, but I rationalize it as him preaching demagoguery to get voted.

And preaching demagoguery is leading to violence against the targets of his bigotry.

A vote for him (or Sanders) though sends the message that "I am frustrated with the current political climate. I don't really know how to tell you to fix things, other than vote for this crazy guy who says he will fix things while the rest of you just say neutered talking points, carefully vetted by your staff."

Is it worth sending that message so you watch the Supreme Court go right? Or watch tons of setbacks for marginalized people occur? I note that you very plainly point out the privilege you have, so it's probably safe to say that this won't affect you nearly as much as it will affect others.

Oh, okay, so you ARE willing to fuck over people because "got mine." Cool

I can't believe that is real. That black guy...

Man what are you doing there???

I have latino friends who are trump supporters

There's a lot of conservative value people from latino countries, at the end of the day they care about the economic aspect more than the social aspect, and don't necessarily mind the anti-LGBT stuff conservative mindset.

His argument is that Trump is only attracting the crazies for the votes but isn't going to do anything about it, and will focus on the economic aspect.

Its unfortunate that so many of the left-ist blogs and posters paint all Trump supporters as racist, sexist, redneck idiots just like Fox News portrays all liberals as communist SJW crusading America-haters, the truth is far more complex but its not like anyone is going to change their minds on a forum.

Maybe Trump should stop saying violent, racist comments and people will stop painting his supporters with the same brush? I mean, really, if I said half of the shit he says at his rallies in my office, I'd have my ass canned in about 30 seconds. And yet you want to elect him as President of the United States? What the fuck is going on here?

I hear this being said a lot around here but I don't understand what it's referring to, could you explain?

It means that a person doesn't care about how others are affected by something because they are in a comfortable position relatively free of influence. In this particular case, the original poster being stated that because he is white and financially well off, his interests would not be significantly affected by either Trump or Clinton, but that he'll probably choose Trump to "send a message." Aside from the fact that Trump and a significant portion of his supporters are bigoted and uneducated, his "policies" are hot air and sound bites stolen from other politiicians.

I can't respect the opinions of anyone who would support Trump.

I had no idea this show existed but I'm going to be watching it now. Love Sam Bee and that segment was great.

I had to Google him after watching this segment to make sure it wasn't him on the show. Alex's segment on This American Life was interesting.
