gt4 does 1080i ingame

I think 480p and 1080i comparison pics are in order. Holy crap I can't believe Polyphony managed this, even with reduced detail. I wonder if 480p also has reduced detail.

"1080i and 480p is in game, the menus are still 480i, the game will switch mode when you are in the start game menu."

this is a PAIN in the arse for my projector....

it's switching into crunched mode unless i switch to 480i.

fucker.

anyways, time to play

It is also a pain in the ass for me, I use a transcoder with my LCD monitor (and my LCD monitor does not display 1080i signals normally as it doesn't have a preset mode for it), and you can guess how frustrating it will be when I have to switch cable to connect to my PCTV card to select the stuffs before going to the start race menu.

Is the drifting mode still in the game?

Don't know yet, just started you know. :D

BTW, didn't notice any framerate problem finishing a lap in the famous Nurburgring in 480p, will try a serious lap in 1080i now.

:(

i feel your pain.

Luckily, the projectors auto-mode is making things work very nice at this end.

Confirmed from my end too : the game , in game, runs in 480p and in 1080i in A-Spec mode.

I've only raced round the Tokyo track in arcade and i don't see any real differences in terms of detail drops either - the trees look identical in both modes for instance. Both still have shimmering, though it's slightly less noticable in 1080i.

Strangely, 1080i mode drops the brightness down a few notches .... very odd.

But, other than that, looks nice.

ps. i have a dinner break now - so i'll be back after an hour or two.

DC....honestly how does it LOOK? I mean....is the wow factor as big as the hype led us to believe? Are we talking "blows RalliSport Challenge 2 and Burnout 3 out of the water" type graphics? Is it prettier IN YOUR OPINION than OutRun 2?

So AA is used? I heard the leaves on the ground were made of polys now, this true? How good are gt4's visuals, best racing game visuals maybe?

What worries me the most is the fact they have decreased detail in order to achieve this (rumour or true ??? )...Give us your opinion Maskrider when you have time :)

I hadn't look hard enough and I didn't notice lost in detail yet, but my display is not one to judge 1080i signal in detail, may be wait for DC, his projector will be a much better one for comparison.

I am taking a family outing break.

One more post before I left off.

People who likes the sound tracks will love GT4's Music Theatre

And some screens of the big GT mode map.

i'm still not qualified to judge yet - i had to go watch some Keroro with the other half as well as well as eat. Gonna play now.

In terms of IQ (NOTE I'M TALKING ABOUT IQ) Xbox games *like the ones you mentioned* just look way better than GT4 on my set up , so at the moment (having seen one track) i'd say no. It certainly isn't blowing anything out of the water in that sense so far, although i did pick R246 just because i play football there and i like wizzing past where we play :)

However, artistically and in terms of lighting, i expect the game to "look" better...

sorry, i know that might sound a bit weird.

Also, yes - soundtrack wise , there are apparently over 100 tracks (according to the manual).

cobra, i wouldn't look to DCharlie for an honest assessment of the game. Don't bother. Wait until maskrider returns. In normal mode, the game is comparable to, if not better looking than, any racer out, so these pscan modes can only be an added plus.

* okay - i'll let the fun ride for a bit *

Maskrider, I love you. :D Can you take a pic of what Volvo cars are available? Or are just the S60 and 245 in the game?

"Sweet Jesus...

Moon Over The Castle (Orchestra Version)

I approve of this MP3 :D

okay, so played some more arcade racing.

Looks like the IQ is just sweeeeet on the other tracks. Played the grand canyon track in 1080i and it looks fantastic.

Played with the photograph mode which, whilst simple, is a car lovers/GT fans wet dream come true. Took some snaps of my one car (Skyline) around Shibuya.... :O

Also, Dive Replay mode... holy fuck!

"Well, I'll be damned!"

I'm glad to be proven wrong here. :) I know a few friends who are going to be very excited by this news!

Is there any chance the US version will get the option to have the jp soundtrack? Also Dcharlie, we need some comparison pics (1080i vs 480p)!! Even from your digicam would suffice.

i can give it a shot but i don't think they'll show any differences as i can't see any beyond the shimmering and the digicam should filter that out....

i'll try it.

Well i'll be damned....I can't wait till some professional sites put up some comparison pics and full, in-depth details regarding any differences between 480p and 1080i and how the engine holds up while in 1080i mode.

This is a double-whammy...not only does it squeeze some untapped capabilities out of the "aging" PS2 hardware, it also bodes very well for PS3(can we say 1080p with even greater detail and effects).

getting ingame pics proved difficult... comparison pictures from a camera are pretty much worthless... :(

anyways, i'll put some replay snaps up anyways....

Is the AI better than in GT3 ?

Blah, don't teast me like that...the soundtrack has stuff from GT1, which rocks. Obviously none of this will be in the american release. Die Sony.

Anyway, what Polyphony has done is just downright unbelievable, but I'm surprised that DCharlie doensn't see much difference between 480p and 1080i. Shouldn't it be HUGE?

Hey hey ! Don't put me on the table, DC is trustworthy. Damn ! Have to go out again for food.

edit: Yes, 1080i output is ultra sharp.

56k am owned...
sorry the pictures aren't great and probably too big....

Wow, no one has taken the time to apologize to cobragt, I'm shocked. GAF at it's finest. I guess there were a lot of haters on here.

While I didn't single him out, I'm still shocked that the game really does run in 1080i. I was certain it wasn't possible.

I was always under the impression that 480p was the hardware limit for the PS2.

I aint gonna hold a beef, I can fully understand where everyone was coming. I mean, gt4 is on the ps2, the weakest console of the 3 and having gt4 run a solid 60fps and have hd res formats with alittle AA to boot is fucking unbelievable.
