I just hope everyone learnt a valuable lesson today. Taiwanese info is just as good as Japanese info. No one would have questioned this info twice if any of us who can read Japanese were to start a thread saying how 2ch reports are pouring in that GT4 supported 1080i. Oh well, at least it didn't go as far as accounts being put on the line. :lol
mr2mike said:probably not since 720p would actually require more pixels to be rendered. for a 60 fps game anyway.
But color me shocked, those pics might not be uber quality, but at least you can see some sick definition in some tiny areas. The guy inside PD that first suggested 1080i probably got laughed at, and now that it's running, probably everyone inside PD is laughing in unison at the Forza team
Polyphony just schooled everyone. Developper of the year!

Culex said:I don't think it would really matter with 720p, anyway.
The difference between 720p and 1080i is very small, unlike the jump from 480p to 1080i.

cobragt3 said:I aint gonna hold a beef, I can fully understand where everyone was coming. I mean, gt4 is on the ps2, the weakest console of the 3 and having gt4 run a solid 60fps and have hd res formats with alittle AA to boot is fucking unbelievable.
Wow, no one has taken the time to apologize to cobragt, I'm shocked. GAF at it's finest. I guess there were a lot of haters on here.

OmniGamer said:Um, no....I don't recall anyone(certainly not the majority) insulting him or anything...but because some people preferred to be cautious and not just take something at face value, only to be disappointed later, he labled them/us haters? Personally speaking, I always prepare for the worst, and if I get good news instead, then it is all the better...rather than expect the good news, and then be extremely disappointed by the bad news. I don't think any sane person can say anyone who had doubts regarding this feat didn't have any sound reasons for having them...and it is that arrogance, the "Hey y'all if you don't believe me you MUST be a hater" all-or-nothing stance, that disqualified him from any such apology. Sure he was right, but as far as i'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with wanting to wait from more widespread confirmation before doing the happy happy joy joy dance.
Debunked at the same forum. Sorry, you lose!
PS2 struggles w/ 480p. I knew that was bullsh!t.
It's not even about framerate...
The PS2 doesn't have enough ram to handle such a resolution, at least I can't imagine it does. The demo was field rendered, so if that were the case, they must have done a LOT of work.
That would be so cool if true, though.
I uh, find that *VERY* hard to believe. I bet my ass that the 1080i mode is only available for the photo mode.
You people are dellusional if you think that of all the PS2 games, something like GT4 is the only one able to run on 1080i.
Agent X brings up an interesting point. I remember that Kaz himself(or someone else from Polyphony) said that 480p wouldn't be possible on GT4, because of hardware constraints. How the shit did they manage 1080i then? Sorry, but just...no.
As some others have mentioned, I would have expected a HUGE uproar about this if it were true...the game is just about to be released in Japan, and NO PS2 game has done 1080i before, and only a few XBOX games do, and none of them are as graphic intensive as GT4. IF it is true ingame somehow, I expect it to be like GT's HiFi mode...in other words, it comes at the cost of some cut backs. You don't have to be a damned hater to doubt this...simple logic would demand some cautionary skepticism.
I'm honestly tempted to say that if GT4 DOESN'T support 1080i in-game, your account should be permabanned because of the way you've carried on in this thread. Then again, it might be more fun to listen to you getting mocked until you leave on your own. We'll just have to see how this plays out, hmmm?
Look, I'm reacting to a guy calling anyone here who doubts his story a "hater" when I haven't seen any proof from him whatsoever.
If you have some links you want to provide, I'm all for it.
shantyman said:Let's take a look, shall we? He was told time and time again he was wrong. He simply called people who did not believe him a hater- how siu that worse than what was said to him?
Who was talking out of their ass here?
He provided links to the official site as well as impressions from those who have the game. What else did you need?

Damn, this thread made me do a lot of things
When is GT4 out in the US now? January 20th sometime around that?
Huzza said:Maskrider thank you for taking the time to take screenshots, if it is not too much trouble could you please take a capture of the Australia Cars screen.
DCharlie, what projector is your PS2 hooked up to? I ask because I'm interested to find out what native resolution your projector has.
Also, props to Cobra for sticking to his guns.
OmniGamer said:And? It was still hearsay, and people's doubts were still well-founded....is 480p support widespread on the PS2? Has there been ANY 1080i PS2 game? Even a simple one? Weren't there quotes from Polyphony people that went against the possiblity of even 480p for this game? Didn't some of the resident techies have their doubts due to the PS2's limited 4MB? So to err on the plausible side of things, one is a hater? To want something more solid than "This person from this forum said such and such" is to be a hater? I mean, it's just simple logic that one would thing such an "OMG" feature as this would have made quite a bit of noise...but it came out of left field, so why does doubting=hating?
