Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
It's been immortalized in this great music video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gHsliMTzhg

That's what MMORPGs is all about. a living, changing world. Great memories. Development, progression, changes. Don't worry about the past. A lot of learned lessons and frustrating things have amassed into the great game you play before you today;D

I've played to level 40 when it first came out, I can kind of relate :p

Its like they took the zergs from edge of mists and built a pve map round it n nerfed edge if mists

I have no idea what you're on about.
All I was trying to do was to give additional information on hero challanges by informing people that they might need certain masteries to complete some of the hero challanges.

You sarcastically said that you are fine with it because you don't want to finish the xpac in one day. As if finishing those specific challanges finishes the xpac.

I never said I wasn't fine with what I posted about hero challanges.

I then sarcastically asked if that was how you finished the xpac.

Got it?

So for purchasing the expansion, the $99 package is the best deal?

I'm maxed on character slots at the moment and could easily wait for a sale before I buy a new slot (and might buy a bank tab too, just waiting for a discount).
If I don't plan on using the gems and new character slot right away, is the $50 pack a bad deal?

Edit - Also, thanks for the replies earlier about old content population. I love to play casually and there's a ton of original content I've yet to go through, but the excitement of the expansion is drawing me in here.

Not really. I'm most miffed about the gated story. Having to run trains > to get XP > to get mastery unlocks ...isn't super enjoyable for me. It's even worse when you need a specific mastery to even do an event...
You know the little missions between the story instance are also story and participating in the events just gives you more details on the story and helps you get the required mastery.

It makes sense that you cannot talk to a certain hylek tribe because they have never been seen before so you should have to learn thier language before proceeding with the story.

I own a copy of guild wars 2, which I never got around to playing until now

Do I need to buy the new expansion right away if I'm just starting to play or should I wait till i'm a certain level?

God, the HoT Personal Story is so much better than the vanilla Personal Story. I'm so glad they seem to have found their footing.

The mastery requirements don't bug me. It's like the leveling experience for the expansion. I don't really see it as any different than leveling up between PS missions when leveling a character.

Unless you really want to play Revenant, there's no real need to get the expansion off the bat. It's almost entirely focused on level 80 content.

I get that, but I just don't feel like I should have to grind/zerg these events just to "learn a language". It's a really odd design decision. Locking out an elite spec is one thing...the story? mmm k.

So I've switched from Spite to Blood Magic on my Reaper. I miss the additional damage, but people are getting wrecked in some of these events and I've noticed a reluctance to WP when dead so being able to rez and heal like a madman does more towards ensuring the event suceeds. The last event I did was the Legendary Mordrem Wyvern and people weren't CCing so people were dying left and right. It was nice being able to get them up without putting myself in too much danger. Helicopter transfusion is the best

I'm still in VB and I haven't seen everything yet so which events are locked by masteries? So far all I've seen are the canopy night events which need gliding 1. I'm pretty sure the noble, itzel, and Laranthir are all doable without masteries and the pact ship is annoying without gliding 1 and itzel 1, but still can be done.

AB has a few parts that are gated and story 10? does as well. It pretty much starts from there and ramps up.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Ok, my Reaver is level 33. Brief thoughts:

-Really fun class. Lots of ways to play with a relatively limited weapon choice (used to playing Guardian) and all of its weapon skills are really cool, especially the off-hand axe's teleport attack. Staff looks badass when you use it but it only has two real offensive skills... a shame, but not a bad weapon by any means.

-Went Dwarf/Assassin. Dwarf is... interesting, Assassin has two teleports and an overdrive-like move that speeds you up. I have to say I'm not too too impressed with these skills, although the ethereal dwarf road skill is neat. I haven't unlocked the max level skill of either path.

-They have a great aesthetic. Love the black ink effect in their moves.

Overall, I have a 54 Guardian and this 33 Reaver... and I'm not sure which to go with. Reaver is a super unique class, kind of like an assassin-type but not really, less so than you'd expect from looking at it. I'm not sure I understand the power percentage associated with each stance yet.

Ah. I wasn't being sarcastic. I was dead serious. I'm *glad* a lot of this stuff is being metered out slowly. Even the non-story elements. I'm not saying I have a lot of time to play - the opposite. I don't have much time to play, so I like that I can set myself easy goals per session. Yes, it's a throttle Anet is imposing via design, but I'm okay with what they have it set to. I can see how others might not be okay with it, but I've not commented on that.

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I wasn't trying to downplay the info you were giving - it's good info. Only that I didn't mind the content of that info.

When you use revenant skills they cost energy and/or upkeep per second. The revenant has a base in combat recharge rate of 5 energy per second. When you're out of combat it either fills or fades to 50. Swapping to a different legend automatically brings the pool up to 50.

It's also not exclusively assassin type. The dwarf is a warrior type relying on power and is more hardy, the centaur is a healer arch type relying on healing power, the demon is a condition damage type while assassins focus on precision and critical strike damage . Each of the legends has a trait line which has better than average synergy

  • Devastation — Assassin
  • Corruption — Demon
  • Retribution — Dwarf
  • Salvation — Centaur
There's also the Invocation which is a generic one and the Herald which is your elite stance.

Okay now that I'm re-downloading. Do people that bought the game before it went f2p get anything special?

I have a level 40-or-so Nord Guardian still kicking around I think, but I'm probably just gonna start over. Bit sad that all the living story stuff is like, once-in-a-lifetime and old players can't experience it, but I guess I have nobody to blame but myself and will just have to read up on the lore for it.

You get a free character slot, birthday boosters and anniversary gifts, an in game title, and a free outfit.

Are we all meeting up at a common location first? I imagine a ton of us will be running to the entrance since we don't have waypoints.

I don't consider it a bad deal at all. It's what I picked since I have no use of any of the extras and I've accumulated enough superfluous gold to turn into gems if I wanted to buy something off the gem store (going through about 35 ranks of PvP earned me ~200 gold). My disposable income has increased so I no longer care about gold. I'll likely purchase a gem card every couple months to support the devs. Legendary armor will be a very, very slow walk for me.

Edit:
vvvvvv Mesmer wearing heavy armor??

Man I love this outfit. My mesmer looks pimp. The Hexed Outfit looks like a dress :\, I like Mesmer in armor anyway.

Are the base classes still competitive, or do the new specializations or whatever they are called just much better. Still don't have the expansion and I don't do endgame stuff so I probably wouldn't get much use out of it other than new classes*. I still haven't did more than 2 instance dungeons in the game.

I just posted on Guild Chat that you wanted in and gave them your info. Hope they noticed (they are talking about something and may have overlooked it).

I was surprised you thought my comment was somehow against the way ANET have layed out the story, which I am not against and am enjoy very much because like you after this weekend I won't have much time to play.

This is why I thought you were being sarcastic.

Anyway nevermind, just post more screenshots of the new areas.

Frankly I have no idea where we "start" it from and I'm sure I'll have to run there myself. I think we'll want to meet up at the guild center in Lion's Arch.

New player here. Tried the game a few days ago and absolutely loved it.

Hopefully I can get a guild invite: Vic Voss.6135
Looking forward to playing with all of you!

It was just a misunderstanding, that's all. We both have pretty serious obligations now (though yours poops, good luck with that), so I figured you'd understand. :p

The way Anet currently has it set up, lets people with little time get rewarding sessions in, but they have to throttle it or people with too much time will just blow through it all in a week and stop playing. Which you don't want in your MMO. But I'm preaching to the choir.

Anyway, about HoT:

There is a DE in Verdant Brink that ends in a little vote over which leader should lead, which is a nice insta-snapshot of the psychology of the players who did the three escorts. It's wonderful.

I am voting for not changing the guild emblem because we had it for so long and there is no need to change it.

Go mess around with GAFO emblem but don't change main guild emblem.

The Lost Precipice won our in-guild vote. We will be claiming it tonight in place of our regularly-scheduled missions (then possibly doing some other stuff, we'll see)

do we have to get to a certain part in hot to join the guild on this adventure

I agree with not changing the emblem. The only thing that would change my mind is if new emblems were added.

Miktar, if you've been blown away by VB, just wait till you see Auric Basin and better yet Tangled Depths. How they've pulled this off is a mystery to me.

Leyline armor - that is from Dragon's stand, no? Or Tangled paths? I still can't find a portal to either in Auric Basin.

My inability to decide on a character name for my Charr mesmer to switch to so I can free up my normal name for my Rev that I'll play going forward is completely preventing me from playing this expansion. This is really annoying.

This is pretty accurate.

I took two screenshots in the 10 minutes I've been in the zone and I'm not gonna post 'em because even seeing what the zone looks like seems like a pretty big ass spoiler. I want Miktar (well, everyone, but Miktar especially!) to go into it blind and experience it for himself.

I've been waiting a decade for an MMO to have a zone like this though...

Whoever quotes this post gets to give me the expansion for FREE.

lol. The download of the base game is so slow.... :(

What are everyone's impressions of the expansion? I'm tempted to try it out again.

I just got home to play some Guild Wars and I'm getting 0KB/s download speed on this patch.

Yeah a patch came out 10 min ago and the CDN shit itself. Some people are having issues others not, probably ISP related.

I have been in complete awe of what they have achieved. The environment design alone is absolute world class. Simply mindblowing. If nothing else, just running around these zones is a visual feast for your eyes.

Err, I haven't bought a copy of the expansion yet...but it looks fun. The elite specialzations seem kind of strange? since they seem pretty focused and there's only 1 per class but still, i like the Druid loo at least.

A friend of mine is playing it right now and seems to be having a lot of fun.

Here's the notes from the update that just went up;
Bug Fixes:
  • Updated the name of the Nuhoch Mastery vendor at the entrance to Tangled Depths.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Nuhoch Mastery vendors to sell obsidian shards for airship parts instead of ley-line crystals.
  • Fixed a bug wherein Adventure UI would sometimes fail to clean up on the map.
  • Fixed a bug in which the number of bosses required to beat the guild hall expedition was not accurate.
  • Fixed a bug causing some crafting materials to drop more frequently than intended.
  • Elementalist—Heat Sync: Fixed the casting effects to properly appear horizontally. Wildfire: Fixed the casting effects to properly appear horizontally.
  • Warrior—Combustive Shot: Fixed a bug that caused this skill to have a smaller radius than intended.
  • Revenant—Cruel Repercussion: Fixed an issue in which the correct trait name would not display properly.
  • Fixed a bug that caused certain map reward coordinator chests to have no rewards at specific participation thresholds.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the Orge Camp event chain in the Tangled Depths to stop progressing.
  • Fixed a bug in which chak bracers and chak sappers were not fully immune to conditions as is intended.
  • Auric Basin: Fixed a bug in Westwatch Patch in which Dawkkurra would get stuck on an event and stall.
  • Engineer—Recovery Matrix: Fixed a bug causing this trait to trigger on use of Overcharge. It now triggers just on the placement of Healing Turret.
  • Engineer—Toss Elixir B: This skill has been fixed to properly grant 3 stacks of stability to allies within the area of effect.
  • Fixed a bug causing smokescale pets in Teku Nuhoch to not spawn appropriately.
  • Ranger—Smokescale: Smoke Assault: This skill has switched places with Smoke Cloud so that it will now be the F2 skill for this pet. Fixed an issue in which this skill dealt higher than intended damage; it has been reduced by 50%.
  • Superior Sigil of Speed: Fixed the text to match the functionality of only granting 1 second of quickness.
  • Superior Sigil of Absorption: Updated the text to reflect the correct functionality of stealing 1 boon when interrupting an enemy.

Welp...
Just purchased HoT, see you guys for the Hall run!!

Download fast =)

Yeah, elite specs are one per profession, but they'll be adding more in the future.

So the masteries are all account-wide, advance fairly slowly, and are required to advance the story? In that case I'm definitely going to want three characters at level 80 before I even consider HoT. Having only one level 80 when everything I wanted to do needed/strongly encouraged level 80 did a lot to burn me out on the game in general.

I would love an invite to the guild - coming back for HoT and plan on playing for quite a while! IGN is Anomander.9347. Thanks in advance - looking forward to playing with you all :)

I am kinda tempted to give this a shot. I got a bit sick of my engineer(Quicks, if anyone remembers me) since it just felt like a bunch of grenade spam, and that got old rather quick. I didn't really have the desire to level another character, and my shit PC kinda limited PvP significantly resulted in me losing interest and finally dropping it.

If the Scrapper actually changes that repetitive game play then might check it out when it gets cheaper...
