Probably for the best. We have ANet folks both in the guild and in the thread, and though leaks like this are out there for people to see and there's no way to really stop it, we shouldn't be broadcasting them when we know better.

Haha, those are pretty cool :) Is it Shop-RNG again?

I have a love-hate thing going on with so many of the armor and weapon sets in this game. My pet peeve is the "awesome looking skirt, ruined by pants underneath" that almost all female light armor sets have. It's why I like the Whispers set so much, it's an actual skirt. CoE too, I think. The Priory armor would be awesome if not for the pants. Maybe I'm picky but there is almost always something about each armor set I cringe about.

Take my Thief. Looks cool from the back:

Apparently there is a guild? I am hoping to join it as so far I've had trouble staying in the game, no friends play it and such.
Also is this one of those guilds where we'd be forced to use TS/Mumble/Whatever? Don't particularly like such programs...

Yep, post your username (name.####) and we'll get you in. We play on Stormbluff Isle (NA) but you can guest for everything but WvW. If you're EU, we have an immigration fund if you would like to transfer over.

Well, I do at least sort of enjoy WvW, so if I were to join up I'd probably end up switching to your world.

I assume that's the correct thing you're wanting, yes? I'm only level 36 right now (kept making a bunch of alts haha), but I'm totally up for grabbing a million and a half riceballs to speed things along.

Invite sent, check your guild tab. If you don't want to pay the fee to transfer and you're not worried about leveling, you could delete all of your characters (names are reserved for 24 hours), pick SBI and then start over.

You're certainly not -forced- to use mumble, but we recommend using it for our guild missions to at least listen to what we're doing.

Honestly, I wouldn't TOTALLY mind that if there was a speedy way to get back up -- I'm sure if GAF was to join in we could speed through it, but if I'd be playing alone for that bit I'd certainly not enjoy going through all that, AGAIN.

If you have a lot of mats stockpiled and some gold, you can powerlevel via crafting. 10 levels per profession for a total of 80 per character. http://www.gw2crafts.net/ has an always-updated guide that looks at the trading post to find you the cheapest option.

So my wife is also in a smaller guild with some people she knows, and I was invited in just to help with bounties and such. Neither of us have represented them in forever because they only had a handful of people on at a time and aren't very chatty. Today, out of the blue, they start spamming whispers to do a Guild Bounty/Rush so I figured "What the hell, I'll be nice". I was just dinking around on an alt anyways.

They failed their first Tier 1 bounty, couldn't find Deputy Brooke.

They beat the second Tier 1 bounty.

They did another Tier 1 bounty because one guy (who sounded like he was 60) didn't get his commendations. He had no waypoints in the zone so they spent the entire time guiding him through. They failed this one too, but the guy got his comms.

They then proceeded to fail the Spider Scurry rush, despite me doing it twice to boost their numbers and then escorting people through it a bunch. They literally had no idea what to do, were falling off ledges, stopping and dying because they had no idea how to shoot across gaps even though they had been shown how to do it multiple times. Got lost, missed flags, stood in rockfall traps...

I wasn't taking GAF for granted by any stretch, but after today I think I appreciate it a little bit more.

Yikes.

I think that story should give people some context when it comes to the difficulty of pretty much everything in the games we play. Avid gamers like us (and if you're on this forum, I think it's safe to say you're an avid gamer regardless of how "casual" you may think of yourself) are all above average players. I think we tend to forget that when we compare ourselves to the top of the top performing players in the world.

I ran a guild in Everquest that sounds a lot like that. Virtually everyone was older, most of them had spouses in the guild, and few of them were "good" at the game. The very few times we attempted to raid anything it turned into a disaster. Eventually I realized it was just best to play at their speed and accomplish what they're interested in. It was awesome, but yeah it wasn't at all the same as something like GAFGuild.

The best thing is GW2 can accommodate all types of players. You don't have to be "the best" to experience all the content. And the way the game is designed, it would be difficult to even define what "the best" is anyway, if it even exists. I'm not sure it even does outside of Fractal levels. (I'm also thinking about EverQuest - when it was not only "be awesome" but also "be fastest" because once this boss dies, it's not coming back for days)

Huh, did not know that there was such an easy way (given the gold) to get levels. Hell, looks like it takes like 20G to get to full level, which is, well, very nice indeed. Will make alts much more tolerable once I get some bank rolling.

Yeah I am definitely going to have to keep this in mind, this seems SOOO much better than smashing around in WvW.

I tend to use crafting to push through the late 20s and 30s, it feels like the content is still very 'safe' at those levels but I'm personally ready for something more advanced. Elite skills, traits and such... So it's like riding with the training wheels on after I've already learned how to ride. That's really the only place the content feels like it drags out a little.

Otherwise, I couldn't imagine just power leveling straight to 80. For one, I wouldn't have spent a bunch of time learning the nuance of the professions.

Different strokes, I guess, but I love leveling alts. Always have, actually, regardless of the game. In fact, Guild Wars 2 may be the first game where I've stuck with my main for the majority of content instead of hitting max level and immediately starting over.

What this story really puts in perspective for me is the spectrum of complaint about the difficulty level of the content in this game.

I see, extremely commonly, the complaint that the game in total is simply too easy. And lots of complaints that individual pieces of content in the game are too easy. While generally I agree that there isn't any tough-as-nails content (Rytlock's Critter Rampage is straight-up tougher than anything in Guild Wars 2), I always, always try to keep in mind that the places that I'm seeing this complaint are incredibly self-selecting. They're on web-forums, on Reddit, in our guild chat. Places that people who are very skilled on the whole and certainly not new to gaming on the whole would frequent.

But people outside of that demographic are important to ArenaNet, and more to the point, represent a large chunk of their playerbase and target audience as prospective buyers. There are just so many different skill levels represented- from the guy claiming that after two legendaries, three Fractal weapons and world completion on two characters, the game is a joke and there's nothing to do, to the guy claiming that the Breached Wall was far too difficult to include in the game for something as "necessary" as world completion.

Trying to enable all of these gamers to not only coexist in the same world for a substantial period of time but actually participate with one another communally is an incredibly daunting task. I can't even imagine how tense the conversations on where to end up "tuning" something must get.

I think I've sort of inadvertently done myself a solid by not getting World Completion yet, because with every alt I've just focused on sections of the game world I was totally unfamiliar with. I can't even really express how wild it feels to still be surprised by things I've simply never seen before in the open space of Tyria... after 1,500 hours of play.

Psh, you don't need to avoid World Completion to stumble on new things. I see new stuff all the time, mains and alts.

are they ever going to make other gametypes than camp points?

that shits so boring and was a huge let down.
Probably not. Of course people are already using the parameters of Custom Arenas to force in their own gametypes. I played a couple 2v2 rotating "deathmatches" yesterday, pretty fun.

Absolutely right, even in the newbie areas. What I meant was seeing even new hearts or even Meta Events I'd never encountered before, with my 4th or 5th "leveling" character, is pretty sweet.

well, they said they tested TFFA and FFA and such, and didnt find it to be working well. I dunno the specifics, but they must have their reasons.

Maybe downed state + lack of trinity and defined roles, make for a problematic pvp setup?

Chap (Jon Sharp) just said during their Twitch SPvP session the other day that they're working on new modes but no ETA yet.

And yeah.. DM modes inherently evolve into battle of the Comp and there's generally no room for comebacks. Especially the way the combat happens in this game. Once one member of a team dies, it's pretty much a done deal. While popular to play, it's really not all that fun to watch. I have no idea what the modes they're working on are though so they very well could end up putting in an unranked DM mode.

My wife is part of one of the mega-sized newbie guilds and every time I join them for a guild event I can't help but shake my head in how badly a guild can fail guild events when they have several hundred players online at any given time. Not only that but the guild chat is a ghost town where I'm probably the only one that ever calls out meta events. I'd at least think a mega-guild would be useful for farming events but no, GAF guild (and probably most other respectable guilds) are far more useful for that as well.

Quality >>>>>> Quantity when it comes to guild members.

Hello peeps, some of you may remember me for helping Jira with the first OT,
and I mean, a few of those who managed to get past the wall of text, pictures and text within pictures,
and then disappearing about 7 days after the headstart, sucked in by The International 2.
Well, I got back to GW2 about two weeks ago, and since YuroGAF seems to be dead I thought I'd try to re-check my oversea connection on SBI, but it turns out that "you may only guest in worlds within your home territory"... so I have a couple of questions for you, before I jump ship.

How is the server faring in PvE/ WvW? I don't care about being on top of the food chain, but if no one is playing/ commanding I might as well stay on Gandara and be crushed there.
In the event that all goes bad and I have to get back to the homeland, is the timer for a second transfer still 7 days?
...and am I the only cheapass thinking 25ish Euros is a bit steep for a server transfer, with all the "risks" attached?

Regardless, if there is any vacant slot I'd like an invite to the guild. tachiSama.1698, I still have in FL Retro, Hawkian and Chelmo (Jira?).

There are some really cool thief oufits though: I kept reskinning upgrades because this was my fav outfit for my thief.

And the ordinary set - looked quite cool too though (minus the hood...wasn't using it).

Invite sent, check your guild icon tab pane thing.

Transfers: It's no longer free to move around and I have no idea if the "delete all characters" thing works across regions. However, there is a thread on gafguild.com somewhere to get in line for funding to get transferred.

WvW: It's pretty much settled down where we are. We've been stuck with the same two other servers for about 5 weeks now. This week we're in last place rather than second and I reckon it's burnout at this point. We have presence during North American peak times, whenever that is. Other than that our overnight crew is bare minimum where we'll only be able to hold somewhere between 90 and 150 points per tick on average.

PvE: Excellent. Hawkian will want to chime in here because I'm not one to pay attention much. I can say that the population is around during regular North American hours though, but I suppose that's probably pretty obvious.

Skins never go outdated because it's "to each their own." I personally don't care much for the bare shoulder bit on the Whisper's coat though.

Any ideas where the cheapest UK place is to pick this up? Played GW back in Beta and retails and loved it. I have kept my eye on it but the retail price is still crazy.

Been casually trying to finish off my grenth armor set for 2 weeks since I got the rest of the needed karma, and damn if the temple hasn't been contested EVERY day on 3 different servers :/

Had a group of people run at it yesterday and got to the final meta event only to wipe with 2 minutes left, Bleh.

Looked at the TP and noticed how much the Super skins had dropped.

Looked at my 4 gold and decided to sell as much material as I could to get to 13g.

Got up to 16g and finally got the staff skin for 12-13g! Used the rest to roll the dye dice ... didn't turn out the way I wanted but hey, now my alts have some more colors (Basically all purples- pinks- high blues go to the mesmer I just made. All browns- grays- muddy colors and already unlocked Pinks and purples go to my Michonne based Warrior toon because she does have slashes of color in her outfits. Greens and anything else that don't fit the system go to my main cause leaf-people-gotta-color-coordinate! Plus, I want some culture armor on her one day and I want a ton of color options for that day)

Now I'm down to 17 copper ... :/

Oh well ...

Are those a town's outfit?

Looks amazingly casual if that's armor

Nope! Not town clothes at all! The top is the medium Krytan jerkin skin from the gem store, and the pants are just something I picked up in Queensdale. I can't remember if they were a drop or from a karma vendor. I have the gloves hidden.

You'll definitely want to get a guild invite first of all, and be set to the "plays" rank (basically just have an officer catch on online).

Then go to the SBI Immigration Fund thread and post to get your name on the list. Note: the first person to apply is basically getting a free gem card for the transfer, courtesy of our own Arken, and it is first-come first-serve. I am right now going to PM the EU members I noticed in this thread over the last week that have not yet applied, because I don't want anyone to miss out. to miss out. You aren't wrong about the server transfer being steep. ;)

In WvW we've settled into Tier 4. It's a lot of fun and we're not matched up against horrible soulless servers, but it's very static in terms of ranking. SBI doesn't have the Oceanic coverage to compete with SoS to any degree overnight, so we've competed for 2nd place with CD every week for the last month. Right now we're actually in 3rd for the week, and I personally wouldn't mind dropping down to 5 for a week or two for a chance at glorious victory. Either way, I like this a lot more than being in Tier 1, for my preferences. No queues but a good population and some talented commanders.

In PvE, all the NA servers are pretty packed with activity. No one has numbers, but my perception is that the big world events are busier every time I go to one.

Hope to see you in-game!
