Gundam Reconguista in G |OT| Return of the 80s, All Hail the King

Alright so I'm watching the OP.

The song is infinitely better than whatever the storyboarding or direction of the animation is.

I feel bad for Garnidelia as this is actually a really good song and the direction of the OP is such shit.

Somebody please tell me the storyboarding isn't this bad for the OP and I'm getting trolled/watching the wrong video.

Wow that was not good. I've heard of shouting out attack names b ut audibly narrating everything you are doing? "Future husband search??????????????!!!!" DID I MISREAD THAT

"Because I get like this sometimes" she says to herself as she cries because of her feminine weaknesses.

LOLOLOLOLOL ARE WE STILL IN THE 80's

Petition to change thread title to "... Return of the 80's".

I can't tell if the animation frame-rate stuttering is part of the show or Vimeo...

Episode 1
I'm not gonna try and defend the show because there is no way that was a 'good' episode but it was Tomino as fuck and enjoyable. The show looks nice but is let down by some piss poor writing. Op was okay but the ED was amazing. Hint of multiple, multicoloured G-Selfs and the series Char clone has me excited to see how things to out. On to episode 2!

Bad direction

Bad writing

Confusing

Some nice mecha action

Yep, its pretty much paint-by-numbers Tomino. About what I expected.

Char clone looks like Prince Vorkken from Wonderful 101.

Gundam: Reconguista in G Episode 1:

Finally, the Tomino has come back to Gundam and given us the bastard child of Build Fighters and Eureka Seven. At least we has some pretty good 2-D mecha action. Of course the story was all over the map and confusing as fuck. Also, good to see Tomino's treatment of women is as disgusting as it ever was. I guess I will watch more episodes but my brain is already scared at this prospect.

G-Reco 1

I uhh... I don't even know where to begin with this one. I can say that's it sure does look pretty though. I also found that shot were Bellri just became captivated with Aiida as he passed her pretty funny. I'm glad Yoshida did the character designs, and that OP was not very good.

Episode 1

Well that was weird. It does have that certain 80's vibe that's been mentioned. I'm liking the art style but not the actual animation so far. Character designs are pretty good as well.

Also the opening was kind of jarring. I was thinking it was going to be Victory-esque for the first couple episodes the way it starts. Doesn't look like that will be the case.

Very confusing (especially the first minute)..thought i was watching the 2nd episode or something ,so much going on and way too many characters.

Love the art style and character design.

Uhhhh did I accidentally step into Episode 2? That was totally confusing.

I mean, there's in medias res and then there's just starting out of nowhere.

Animation was good though.

Man, ep1-2 was super weird. I have a headache now. Some really nice character art/animation, totally confusing action, really Tomino(tm) style storyboarding which is pretty bad, but has nice framing for some scenes, camera work is just ancient and wack, some really nice effects and mecha animation in the second episode, story is just ????????????????? and there's quite a bit of classic Tomino violence against women, even woman on woman violence! Designs are all super awesome and really weird.

This is like some weird obscure 80s mecha show made with modern production values. My head...

Day one. Already sounds better than Captain Earth.

First episode is free, but the rest isn't, and you can't pay for it if you're from North America.

GODDAMMIT SUNRISE.

I actually wonder if part of the issue for NA is due to the fact that we share the same Blu-ray region with Japan. Australia, France and the UK have streaming AND DVD/BD rights for G-Reco.

That first ep was all over the place!! Still, I had real fun time with it, I just hope the editing gets better cause throwing the viewer into the fray with little explanation of anything is fine, but when your editing is as incoherent as this is, it really leave you lost. It almost felt like half the scenes were cut out judging by how unfocused that first half was.

Aaaaaaah the smells of vintage Tomino. This gonna be crazy as fuck and I am ready for it.*

*As long as its better than AGE.

I feel like it's impossible for it not to be.

I hope so. I expect Tomino to go over his usual tricks and such. I'm just hoping this skews less toward Victory and more toward Turn A.

Also rolling in the wondrously bad dialogue. Like it wouldn't be Tomino if the things people said made sense, haha.

Yes. While I did enjoyed it, kinda annoyed with the 2nd half as the build knuckle 'for the win' plagued most of Sei & Reiji's matches.

Build Knuckling to Victory was kinda bound to happen, the same way Domon Shining Fingered his way or Bit Cloud from Zoids Strike Laser Clawed his way. For me it was more about everything else in the fight, rather than getting caught up on the inevitable finisher.

Finishing moves are going to be finishing moves.

Luckily the animations are top notch for GBF... and somehow you indirectly remind me to finish watching G Gundam :lol
So I'm guessing I should watch Unicorn before this. But can I watch Unicorn on its own or is it a sequel to another series?

You can watch Unicorn as stand alone, but having watch some of prior UC series 'may' help you in understanding it. Tbh there's no need to watch Unicorn first before watching this, based on the 1st 2 episodes. Although, who knows more & more UC related stuff popped up (although it might be sense for Victory Gundam
or G-Saviour urghhh
stuff to appear instead) as the series goes on.

Why are people so confused by the first episode? It was pretty straight forward. The MCs captain found this unidentified suit (Gundam) and the pilot jetisoned and they captured her. Later on they take her up on the space elevator to someplace. Meanwhile the MC, a rookie in training member of the Space Guard is going through a training exercise when the Gundam returns. They capture it and find out it's pilot is a space pirate

Episode 1

That was... huh. Very 80s-ish like people have said, very tropey but then again it's Gundam. The ridiculous gender roles made me cringe but I guess that was only a small part of the episode so ok. It looks nice, the visuals remind me of Eureka Seven which is a plus. There were some interesting quirks like a very retro pace, and the characters "portraits" showing up in the middle of the action. Names are ridiculous, but again Gundam. I'll stick with it.

Edit: Oh and I like how the MC isn't angsty. I bet he's gonna be soon though. No way does he stay obliviously cheerful throughout the whole thing.
