Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

Man, this Dagon's Cultist challenge is kicking my ass big time. I try to play some junk first round and pass so I don't have to deal with his initial stuff, but then I just end up having to deal with resilient wild riders instead.

I never finished it. I think the upcoming patch is adjusting difficulty of the challenges.

What's all this about getting compensated (20 or so scraps per keg)? Havent watched stream

Can someone explain how Unseen Elder works to me? It's a 4 base card that can consume three cards but strengthens by power instead of boosting. I've been playing against this card all night and I've seen it consume three harpy eggs valued at 1, but someone afterward the card jumps to a 19 in power.

When consumed, Harpy Eggs give 5 strength, not 1.

Look at description of eggs. It says boosts a card that consumes by 3 or 5 or something like that. I know it is higher than 1 for the eggs if they are consumed

Still salty about qg nerfs when it's not even top tier in the meta. Yet Nilf gets hardly any nerfs.

I'm trying to scramble to make a consume monsters or nilf deck. Even now QG just isn't good at all.

QG seems a bit weird to hit since it seems like there's a lot of inherent counters if it was a big deal since graveyward fuckery can hit it hard, but eh. I atleast like that they're not afraid to buff cards so if they take it to far they can still tweak further.

These QG and Hunter nerfs have hit NF players hard too. Less good options to steal :P

Yea, I'm having an absolutely awful experience with QG atm. Once I get some golds for monsters or nilf ill just switch to them.

The only decks I have a slight chance against with QG is brouver, spell tael and NR decks.

It's almost impossible to win games with QG against most nilf decks and monsters in ranked.

My WR with QG was pretty good at first, maybe around 65% but since I hit 10 I'm now under .500.

I mean they're not even close games sometimes, I just get my shit pushed in.

lol this is getting ridiculous.

Not going to lie, it's pretty cool seeing yourself on the leaderboard among popular streamers and pros.

Thinking about that "pros". What is a pro in this game? Someone who was able to get the best cards early on and abuse the meta with OP decks? Serious question.

it's about playing the cards in the right order

right now it's meaningless since the game isn't balanced. but theoretically there could be some skill

It's:
1. Have access to the best cards, or at least enough to make strong decks.
2. Have time to play.
3. Have skill to be able to climb ranks. People that lack skill would probably struggle to even navigate a meta deck properly.

You're underestimating the amount of skill there is in Gwent. Putting aside the creativity/understanding of the game needed to keep making meta crushing decks of people like Swim, the pass mechanic in Gwent is a great way to demonstrate skill. You can easily throw away a match in which you have a big advantage because you pass poorly, or get baited into over committing.

I want to play Monsters once the patch drops. Will play NG on the side, I'm getting a bit tired of Calveit every game.

this, but i feel like people underestimate the time factor

laddering is a grind, by necessity

Thanks. Going to have to really spend time reading a cards description to max out efficiency. That's a hell of a bump. All the different synergies in this game are so fascinating.

One Deck Archetype I worry that'll last is Spell Nilfgaard. Even less interactive the Spell Scoa'tael. No patch changes affect that deck so far, but it can change.

Yeah I mean they're fine with guaranteed 1st turn combos that put out 30+ points of strength which make you forfeit the round unless your running the same thing.

But oh, QG is just too much. Even when it's considered bottom of the meta atm.

Like a 30+ point 1st turn combo is fine. But skellige getting an extra 12 points that takes time to set up is too much.

Except spell nilfgaard is trash and is easily counterable. Same idea as spell-teal too, just push them constantly, eventually they have to play to win and if they lose all their cards they have nothing left for round 3.

No one is doing a consistent 30 point 1st turn. Get out of here with that shit.

John Calveit, 4 pts
Roach, 5 pts
Imperial Golems, 9 pts
Joachim or multiple combinations for 10+ points.

I don't think I'm being unrealistic, the first 19 points are guaranteed. Anything on top is gravy and it's easy to top 30. So don't tell me to "get out of here with that shit" :/

Calveit doesn't pull Roach so yes, you are being unrealistic. If they also top decked a gold on their first 3 cards then you have a point but that is far from consistent.

I'm sorry your QG deck sucks. The salt is tiring though.

I feel like Monsters are just going to become the new NG where 80% of the ladder is that faction. With so few factions it's so important they get the balancing right, I'll give them time for now because it is beta, but if in 3-6 months time there are still factions that are trash tier and one that is far above the others then that would be terrible for the game.

Why am I ranked against level 22s and 21s in CASUAL?!

Fuck this. I regret supporting this game. Unbalanced mess and crappy matchmaking.

Because casual doesn't have a matchmaking algorithm.

So basically I'm doomed to fail everyday for most of the games. Nilf-cheaters and every other unbalanced deck in ranked and level 22 no-lifes in Casual cause peoplr don't wanna ruin their scores and are ruining fun for someone just managing to play 2-4 matches a day. Just great.

Edit: another one. Not my day at all...... If this is what Casual is right now, I'll stay far away from Ranked. I never thought this game would be this unbalanced.

I've been playing casual since the start of the open beta it has always matched me against people of very similar level (+-1).

Nice luck, should open some kegs. When I go into casual to get a feel for a new deck I usually play some average joe that's still level 5.

"Nilf-cheater"

😂

Is "opportunist" any better? :D

Edit: This game makes advancing super-difficult for an actual Casual. That was my point through all the SALT.

Back in my day, you only got progress towards your daily when you won a full match as opposed to just a round. Sympathy lost. The amount of packs you can get a day is very generous.

I remember that. Even then people were saying how generous the game was at doling out rewards. Goal post moved I guess.

Ranked will actually be much better for you because it'll match people with similar skill to you, the grind to level 10 to play ranked is terrible though

I'll admit that the larger amount of rounds won to get that 50 ore reward is a shame but still, the 100 and 75 ore rewards are easily doable and yes, it takes time but that 3 packs every two days is really good comparatively to other games out there. Plus kegs from level up rewards and 3-4 kegs hidden in the easily achievable ranks.

I still play it and do pretty well. But the ones I lose are usually when they do this yea. Bork useless when we both only have 1 card left. But then I can still overpower them luckily. Just harder.

Well, I already played 3 games and had to stop, won 3 rounds, every game was against a player with 9-10 levels higher than me.

I only have time to play more tomorrow again. So that generosity is wasted on me. :D

And wow... if it was that rough still, I'd stopped ages ago. :/

I can feel the pain from the other side of the world when I force them to play that last ranged unit guy in round 2.

You are right, thanks. Progressing is just SO hard lately. :/ I play mainly Monsters (Consume) and Skellige (some hybrid shit with bears and Damage-units, Harald as leader) and I'm missing many staples on each deck.

Edit: I need to apologize. I just needed to vent. Sorry guys, game got to me.

After going about six or seven Casual games unbeaten over the weekend, I lost four in a row yesterday. I was either playing people with the Pioneer title or frames around their avatars and most of them seemed to be two or three levels higher than me. One guy had a Monster desk that I couldn't combat at all.

This game tilts me every single day. I know I'm being ridiculous and just need someone to point it out so I figure others could use the same.

I seen this insane Round 1 combo with Scoia. Uses the leader, which brings out Roach, Saskia, some Dwarf card, which brought out another. Ended up being like 31 points from 1 card.
