Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

6 is an awkward number.

There's a lot of removal at 3 power or less and a good amount at 5 power, but not many beyond 5. Alzur's Thunder is one of the few options available, but most of the 3-5 power removal cards still leave some power on the board, so it doesn't end up being a direct 1:1 trade like thunder. If you're forcing opponents to burn a card/premium removal like thunder on Savage Bear, SK definitely comes out ahead of that trade.

I think after this patch skellige are the op faction. That bear and soldier that gets boosted for every damage you do vs an enemy combo is too good. Also because of the bear I think it makes queensguard op since they always have a damaged unit to summon themselves

hm i think i found a bug

dropped a trebuchet next to a locked kaedweni siege support, and it didn't damage the opponent at all...

also locked machines don't get triggered by john natalis :|
 
Something kinda fucked up just happened and not sure how to feel about it

So I'm on round 3 and we both have 2 cards left and he purposely doesn't do an action and let time run out and he loses his card and it goes to the graveyard.

I check his graveyard and it was scorch and obviously he didn't want to use it cuz he would have scorched his own units instead of me.

So you guys think this is a tactic or gaming the rules?

woah, that's next level. isn't it random which card he would lose though? so it could have backfired badly
 
"Discarding" is a tactic where a player will let the timer run out to randomly let a random card be discarded rather than play it due to it being detrimental to his own board.

The downside is that it's all luck and can potentially discard a card he wants to use and keep the card he wanted discarded.

Locking also locks the crewman ability I believe. But the trebuchet should at least hit his own ability once then yea.
 
Aight so I did some (53) matches this morning and overall pretty ok with the results. Monster consume. I did, however, laugh at the Nilfgaard stats. Absolutely embarrasing.

He had 3 bears and used silver ice weather and had 2 axe men on the board. I didn't have units to kill them off and just kept taking the damage until the end where i used demetrium bomb on them.

He was getting boosted about 7-8 points per axemam per turn

Where was your removal? That board state should never be allowed to exist.
 
The yennifer axmen deck is putting in some work from what I've seen on streams. Even one tick of frost can get up to a 15+ point swing. It looks so boring to play though.
 
I will repeat myself but axemen are only good as long as they are not popular because it is easy to tech against them.
Mardroeme, Peter, Cyprian obliterate them, and you also have other soft counters (debuff, lock, scorch...).
 
This is a disingenuous statement. With multiple Axemen, multiple Bears, and multiple revives it's easier for the opponent to create that board state than it is for someone to remove it.

The bears are 6 points and axemen have armor, how many removal cards do you expect me to have on me? I was lucky to draw a demetrium bomb and let him boost himself until the end, but he overwhelmed me pretty quickly

Also just played a bunch of skellige today and they really are op besides the bears after this update. Ship + morkvorg + wild boar of the sea is just too much lol
 
Lol, that's more like waking up early and eating lunch later than usual to play Gwent. Otherwise I don't think you would have time to play 53 matches in a morning??

You know with so many people using Avallach lately I've honestly been thinking about running the guardian in my revealgaard deck.

Do it. Although that won't stop round 1 Avallac'h. Unless you kill it yourself mid round somehow

Also had the most disappointing disconnect ever. This dude threw Kambi down and I had just a Renew and some other junk in my hand. I was literally drooling thinking of reviving his Hjalmar to get both Hjalmar and Hemdall the next turn and then it never gets back to being my turn.

I was so freaking mad I couldn't pull that off ;_;
 
Seems like people have gotten a bit greedier with their decks and have cut first light because of the RnR change, which is making the Dagon Fog deck easier to play.
 
Tried roche in the machine deck, but I don't see it. All the games I lose are because of the siege supports dying so Keira is way better to protect them I feel.

Basically seems like even if you have a weather clear, the decks that can apply weather can apply it so much the clear itself isn't really that necessary since it'll happen anyway. Which I can see.

Yeah I haven't had much luck with him in that deck so far. I actually just haven't had much luck with the deck in general. I'm sitting at something like 8-8 with it and most of my wins are against Skellige and other NR decks. I'm getting rolled hard by Monster weather and Nilfgaard decks that haven't changed despite the patch. Not sure what I'm doing wrong with it.

Maybe I need to try a different version that uses more machines and less other stuff? Very lost on how to play NR these days.

Yeah you're not wrong. I'm 100% against NR and they run 3 clears, you can pretty much just bait them all out in the first round and they're screwed then.

Up to rank 13 now, with a mix of Dwarves and Monster weather. From rank 11 onwards I've been seeing quite a mix of decks now which I wasn't at lower ranks.
 
Really struggling with revealgaard, everything is tempo bs with NR or monsters.

Think I'm just gonna copy one of the NR machine decks.

The problem with revealgaard is there's no real optimal build for it. Golems are wasted on it since they can take a slot better used by alchemists or mangonels. If you do that they have no tempo.
 
Have they ever said anything about being able to look at the enemies or your graveyard while selecting between cards? You'd think you'd be able to glance at them quickly when you hide cards, but it's lame you can't. I'm sure i should just check the graveyards more often and a better head count, but still.
 
Skellige isn't nearly an issue for me as NR anymore. Before it was tough, but I can shut them down pretty easy now, especially the bear lovers.

The UI is terrible and will need a pretty big update at some point
 
Very happy. Just got a fantastic keg with 2 golds in it and it was only 4 kegs after my last gold keg.

Got djyksta as the one I couldn't pick and was able to choose Rain. Milled Rain for the 800 scrap and now I can get a legendary of my choice.
 
I just feel like the golems aren't worth it if your trying to get full synergy out of revealgaard, they take up too many slots.
If you want more bronze units why not just increase your deck size then? Golems are basically free points. If you're running Mangonels I guess you'd need to place them first to get value from the leader skill though, presuming you're using Morvran.

Pre-patch I had fun running a Calveit hybrid reveal deck, which just used alchemists and foot soldiers. Tried running full reveal after the patch and don't think it's as good. Spotters don't seem great and I think Morvran is quite a bit weaker compared to the other two.

Tried to come up with a hybrid reveal deck using Emyhr or Morvran but nothing seems as good as Calveit. Just started ranked and at my current MMR I can use anything and win though.
 
No, I lost interest because I tanked my MMR to shit and FFXIV gets an expansion in an hour so I feel no remorse taking a long break.

Ah, also what happened to timer descriptions? There used to be "timer:turn start, timer:end" descriptions and they aren't there anymore.

It throws me off guard sometimes, fell for twice with Succubus and Grave Hag ;_;

Did they remove them? That seems..... odd, considering all the weird interactions that happen at each turn start and end. I hadn't noticed because all I was seeing was Vrans and Succubus and I'm used to when they occur and hadn't checked.

Well I mean, you know how you would hover your mouse over a card with a timer or right click on it and there would be a text box on the left with timer descriptions? On rather the timer would start at the turn end or beginning description, well that's gone.

It throws me off because there's inconsistencies between them and now that there's no description it makes it even more difficult.

For example you only get 1 turn to deal with succubus or she steals your guy even though her timer says "2" where a rot tosser has the same timer but you get two full turns to deal with it.

edit: Like grave hag operates on a 1 turn timer while succubus doesn't
 
Doing well with Dagon weather currently, but it's early days. Never played as Monsters, so it's refreshing. I still have some scraps saved up, as I'm still trying to work out what faction I want to stick with.
 
So have you guys lost interest in the game cause CDPR gave out a ton of free cards and now there's nothing to work towards to. :p
More put in so many hours in the closed beta (although not as much as some of you guys!) my backlog is enormous and I need to catch up. Once I get to games released in 2016, I'll start putting in more time tinkering with reveal nilf. I also might be a bit salty because I milled all my duplicate premium multi-art uncommons a couple of days before they announced changes lol judging by my shit luck with legendaries but amazing luck with animated queensguard, etc I woulda been a scrap gazillionaire
 
Been playing with Letho and D-bomb and it seems really powerful. Maybe it's just good against the current low tier meta? Consume them consume monsters! Played against a Scoiatel deck that relied on units getting buffed when moving rows and just ate all of them so every turn my Letho and other random units were moving rows but nothing was getting buffed. I felt bad.

So have you guys lost interest in the game cause CDPR gave out a ton of free cards and now there's nothing to work towards to. :p
I was enjoying playing with my scrappy deck of cards gotten from kegs, but still having fun trying out new decks and cards. Won't have enough to craft all the factions so still have something to work towards.
 
Aight so I got my daily 50 meteorite, @390 now... so close to 400 so I can hurry up and make another premium and get that sweet 1600 scrap. Does anyone know exactly when we don't get 100% refund anymore? Also, is it possible to get meteorite dust from GG's (I don't pay attention to the GG-rewards)?

Todays stats: 29 wins, 15 losses

Also, the Nilfgaard destruction keeps going without failure. It's actually crazy how hard of a counter this is to every Nilf-deck. I have never experienced hard-counters in such a way that I've experienced in this game.

Ace, got a Ciri, the nerfed one. Y hai Avallach. I'm logging as much time as i can before the 5 days expire. Apparantly i must get a QG in every pack. Scrappy.
