.hack//Fragment was announced for PS2 this week in Famitsu.

- developed by CyberConnect and ArtDink
- no monthly fee, no HDD required
- matching servers are maintained, you can also run your own maintained area servers on a PC
- you can use BBS and Mail systems
- you can run your own area servers and use you own PC in the dungeons
- guild system yes
- character creation yes
- twin blades, swordsman, heavy swordsman, heavy axe, etsangoeahfiwajpdwa
can't be bothered to translate all the classes

That's about all the details posted now, it sounds like..... PSO. Except with area servers you can maintain...

is this Project-GU? I think GU was revealed to be .hack related at E3.

Yeah, they announced three new .hack games back at E3. I'd assume this falls into that realm. It makes sense, given the game's producer said the first game is four times as large as the entire Infection/Mutation/Outbreak/Quarantine saga.

This has nothing to do with Project GU as far as I can tell. .hack//GU is still slated for a 2006 release, while this has a projected release of 2005. GU is also completely offline and storybased. No idea what's up with Fragment, but for what it's worth, "Fragment" is the name of the precursor MMO game before The World in the .hack universe. :D

Well, that makes me, first of all, completely wrong and second, much happier about this announcement. Bring on .hack//GU!

"Project GU" --> ".hack//G.U.," which is a single-player, story-driven trilogy, with the first part hitting Japan around February of next year.

In Famitsu a few weeks back, though, CyberConnect 2 was hinting at a fourth .hack project set to release before //G.U., and that would apparently be //FRAGMENT. Milking it for all it's worth, it seems. :P

EDIT: Argh, damn you duckroll. :P

Yeah they definitely seem to be milking it. Hopefully between this and Naruto, CyberConnect2 gets enough profits to greenlight Tail Concerto 2! Then we all win!

Oh and sorry about the edit, I just felt my post wasn't informative enough. :D

Remember when they put that teaser TC artwork on their page a few years ago? Soul4ger still am cry over that.

Online Fragment was said to be recently denied by CC2 themselves, but maybe just to make the announcement in Famitsu special? Even so I find this hard to believe. BUT. The official site has been updated to include a short flash animtion before the Altmit MINE OS loads up. Have a look for yourselvese here: http://www.hack.channel.or.jp/ Apparently something is going down in 33 hours or less.

Well well it is for reals! IGN's got an article for it here: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/629/629887p1.html

No monthly fee but the servers somehow run off your PC. There'll be dungeon creation tools and an offline mode for leveling up your characters. Personally I'd rather they had dedicated servers instead of having to go through PC's however that works even if that would make the game carry a monthly fee. Hopefully they'll make it simple for dummys like me.
