.hack//G.U. announced

This makes me sad if true. The dot hack story is all wrapped up. Perfectly. No room for expansion. So what is this? A reboot of the .hack universe? Maybe they're gonna retcon some of the story? Or it could be a game with no story (mmorpg?) but still....why do good things always get milked...

Okayyyy talk about getting lost in the shuffle ;_; *bumps*

Guess I was wrong about the milking part and how it can't fit into the story cause it's a sequel outside of the space of the currently wrapped up stuff.

In the .hack universe, the G.U. series will take place in the year 2017, seven years after the events of the previous four titles. Since the events of the previous games, a cataclysmic event has caused "The World" to begin to evolve on its own. "PK's" (player killers) are now roaming the world, though it is not sure how they have come to be. Essentially, "The World" has become more unstable and uncontrollable. Yet, people keep playing.

.hack//G.U. is actually planned to be not one game, but three. However, unlike the previous four .hack games, these three "G.U." games will be their own game. Matsuyama commented that the previous four games were different only in regards to the plotline, but shared basically the same graphics, environments, music, etc. However, the G.U. titles will each have their own environments, new characters for each game, and new music. In other words, each game will truly be a separate game, not three parts to the same game (as many fans found to be the case of INFECTION through QUARANTINE). We were also told that the first part of the three-part G.U. series is already larger than the four previous games combined, which should allow for a longer and more enjoyable game experience.

Sounds good to me! Three more games that continue the story but might play totally different from one another. And the first one is set ta be > 80 hours...eeek!

Hmmm, thanks for the new info. I guess we're the only two CyberConnect2 fans left here! :(

Good to hear that the games will be full fledged and stand-alone this time, but I gotta wonder, if they're going to be released in 2006, it might look kinda bad for CyberConnect2... I wonder if the other 2 games planned are going to end up being next-gen instead.

Interesting, but I don't like the look of the promo art. I guess they're tired of the "nice" look for .Hack, though, and want to try something different.

The in-game graphics look excellent, though.

nah, i'm excited. wished i could have done gamespy's uchiyama (bandai jpn producer) interview but there was a scheduling conflict (and the interview i got sent to turned out to be fucking final fight: streetwise. kill me now.)

If anyones got the "Legend of the Twilight" mangas check pages 179, 175, 273. Each of 'em contains "oh shit!" clues to G.U.'s existence long before its announcement. Anyways I'm super happy these games & the coming novels'll keep my fansite going for a long whiles yet! I wonder if we can expect OVA's with each game again?
