Episode 212: "Let the Games Begin!!"

Was an alright episode, I found myself more enjoying the Tsukki, Yams, Yachi, Hinata stuff than a bit of the other stuff. But looking forward to more because of the teams already revealed and characters Ive been dying to see animated.

What I really love about this show is that they give us some time to care about the jobber teams. They don't spend too much on them but they still make you feel for their loss. I'm glad our crows have stopped losing so much since it's great to see them dominate once in a while. Fun time looks to be over as they face an actual Titan next week.

Them going up against a super large player next reminds me of an early episode of Kuroko where the same thing happened. I'm guessing this episode it's going to play out the same way: they'll have trouble with his height at first but then halfway through the game learn to deal with it.

Episode 12

Fucking god-tier show. Another episode that really highlights all the strengths of Haikyu as a show. On one hand, we have the satisfaction of watching their training bear fruit as they totally destroy some other team in the prelims. Many shows would be content just doing that, and maybe cracking some jokes about the other team underestimating them or being dicks or whatever. But Haikyu always goes on step further, and humanizes the opponents to the point where the victory doesn't feel like heroes beating their enemies. It feels like a real match, with real feelings, and even in loss, there is something to be learned. This is something Karasuno themselves have learned again and again, and seeing this lesson being taught to a weaker school with players who didn't try hard enough not only makes the story of the match more interesting, but it also shows how much Karasuno has grown as a team from last season.

Episode 13

Damn good episode. Drew it out for as long as I could stand. I have a love/hate relationship with with how well this anime makes you care about the opposing teams, even while wanting them to lose.

Great episode, but like the manga, no one will remember this fight at the end of the season.

Kinoshita got screentime and Ennoshita got to show his character again.Could have had more Tsukki. Hinata's dink and Tsukki's blocking saved the team yet again. Sun and Moon are the teams best attacker defender combo.

Diggin the second season, to me this series builds the hype and tension in a great way, insane visual style specifically on hinata kaioken scenes, but keeps it grounded enough that we aren't having gurren lagann chaos dunks and shots the kill all the dinosaurs.

That the reason I stopped Prince of tennis, lol

Episode 13

Another episode where we see them face off against a much weaker team, but this time with a gimmick. Yet even the gimmick is treated with a touch of humanity when we realize he is a rookie who is using his natural physical advantage to compensate for his lack of experience and wanting to do the best for his team. Watching Hinata try new things is always fun, and it is extremely satisfying knowing that he is aware that to be a truly great player, he cannot be a one-trick-pony who is only good at one thing. The comment at the end about how the tall guy could be a huge threat in another year because he learned from this match that he cannot rely on just his height to win was a great touch. Stuff like this is why Haikyu is such a joy to watch.

I don't know if I could handle a whole 2nd season. Do sports anime/manga tend to be multiple seasons or one and done?

Ace of Diamond does the teams first year and their second year, two major tourneys.

I hope Haikyuu would do the same. So many interesting first years on these teams thst one would want to see grow and develop. Plus for Karasuno, Id be interested in seeing how they would do without their third years.

Well... shit.

Started watching this anime a few days back, and I ended up watching all of season two, thinking it's season one. Reckon it's worth going back and watching season one before resuming season two?

This isn't really a show that can be ruined by spoilers or knowing what happens. You should definitely watch season 1.

You definitely should so you can see Datekou and Seijoh [ Aoba Josai] play and get to know them.

Yeah that's a great point. Even after watching all the current episodes of season 2, you don't really know many of the other teams because they haven't returned to a proper competition yet. Those teams were all introduced in the first season and there's some pretty great stuff.

14

Middle blockers conversation of Karasuno was my favorite part of the episode. Hinata always look to Tsukki for their blocking needs and both willing to take up the charge whenever the other feels the pressure. And the comedy was great.

Saw so many of my favorites upcoming, Yuuji Terushima, Koganegawa (in the ED), Goshiki Tsutomu & Semi & Tendoh with Shiratorizawa, and then Mad Dog-chan with Oikawa and Iwaizumi (Seijoh). Its going to be lots of good weeks upcoming. Can not wait for the games.

I was glad Hollywood Tobio was kept in.

Didn't know we had a thread for this. Ep 14 was so great, the hype is real. Can't wait for the matches. It's going to be haaard in the matches that last longer than 1 ep.

Getting used to the new opening/ending is going to be rough after the last ones, just because the songs were that good.

This episode (14 - Still Growing)
was all about Tsukki for me, finally, finally he's going to become a little more of a team player and practice harder after being the stubborn holdout for so long? And certain other characters reactions to his slowly changing attitude... man. Almost choked on my dinner from laughing too hard.

Bathroom Hinata is always amusing, glad they kinda poked fun at how often Hinata has tense encounters with rival bigshots in the restroom.

Hitoka Yachi game is getting on point, too. I'm so glad I ended up liking her so much after her kinda wishy-washy introducton.

There is actually an extra OVA from Jump Fiesta 2014 that bridges the gap between the Nekoma exhibition in S1 and the training camp in S2. You get a lot more backstory on Lev Haiba and Kenma. Not really sure if it is available to watch legally anywhere

Episode 14

Wow the Tsukki stuff was so good. I really like how the story takes its time with major developments for the characters. It makes it much more realistic. We might have seen Tsukki's backstory a few episodes back, but he didn't make a major change immediately. It still took him time to push himself to make that step to improve himself. The training montage was a good way to move stuff on quickly since we already had a whole training arc. Now it's finally into the tournament arc again. Shit is going to get good. :D

The new OP and ED are both super baller, but I definitely prefer the ED because of the unique art style and the creative framing throughout the animation. Really nice stuff. This show rooooocccccccccckkkkkkss!!!!!
