Halo 4 Announced (MS Conf, 2012, Start Of New Trilogy)

I think Bungie thought it was a fitting ending to the series/story that didn't involve MC being dead.
It was, until they had the secret ending where Master Chief's ruined frigate was drifting towards an unknown planet with escalating music playing the in the background. If it had simply ended with the Chief going to sleep, his fate unknown, I'd have agreed.

I know some of the 343 Industries guys actively read (and post!) here so I want to take the opportunity to say you guys did a fantastic job with this reveal. I was growing more excited by the second while watching that trailer.

The best part was when the Chief used his boosters; I damn near lost it.

Just... perfect!

I'm really eager to see what 343 will do with the franchise.

I liked ODST and Reach quite a bit, but I've never been a big Halo guy. I want to be, though, so fresh talent is exciting. Gimme some details!

This teaser didn't do it for me :(

I might be crazy here, and i never played Halo, but that trailer made me think the new trilogy could be a third person shooter.

A particular part of the animation (when Master Chief was shooing) looked kinda.. in-game. And what could be a usable perspective.

I wonder if this new trilogy will feature the Prisoner of Charum Hakkor (aka the last living precursor) as the big villain. He escaped before the halo rings were fired and could still be around.
I guess we're going to see a lot of stuff from the Forerunner Trilogy in Halo 4 and Halo CEmake.

This is what bothers me-- aren't we to assume there are no actual Halos involved?
You should watch the video about the Halo rings from HaloWaypoint ;) At the end of the video they say that there are still 6 rings remaining. Or was it that Flood video, where they said that there are still Flood on the other 6 rings.

Having a Halo 4 just feels too damn weird to me. Reach felt like a good end to the series.

I'm excited to see what 343 comes up with, but I'm cautions as the same time.

who gives a fuck if this is milking? as long as the games are good, i dont care how many of em they churn on in a year.

very eager to see the chief come back. that logo however is unfortunate

...mostly story details. Also, gotta love all the milking images and posts about "milking." Never change, GAF.

SO is this new trilogy Master Chief in the Marathon verse?
Of course not. Why would it be?

If you like Halo then yeah, they're really well done.
The only one I didn't think was great is The Flood, probably because it's the Halo:CE story and I knew what was coming.
Fall of Reach is the best book IMO.
Not by a long shot. First Strike, Contact Harvest, Ghosts of Onyx, Evolutions as a whole, and Cryptum are all better.
NemesisPrime said:
So... a Forerunner ship?
It's not a Forerunner ship. By all indications, it's a Forerunner shield world.
RoninChaos said:
Are the books actually worth reading?
The only one that isn't is The Cole Protocol (excluding The Flood). The latest one is the best one yet.
Izayoi said:
It's a shield world, most likely Onyx.

You'll probably meet up with Halsey and the other living Spartans there.
I doubt 343 will go that route. But it would be interesting if they did.
les papillons sexuels said:
It can't be Onyx. Onyx is in a completely different galaxy.
Onyx is in the Milky Way. I dunno what made you think Onyx is in another galaxy.

If they're doing a new trilogy, it makes most sense to put this on 720. Hopefully, Microsoft goes that route, and announces 720 at next year's E3.

If I were an investor, I would be concerned about announcing a new console that releases next year as basically that means for buyers to not buy any more 360 products, particularly Kinect as much as GAF hates that product.

Usually a next console announcement means the current one will slowly phase out.

Don Mattrick is going to say new console next E3.

And because it consistently rakes in truck loads of cash for Microsoft. It's hard to deny that they're milking it. The question is why everyone cares so much when other popular franchises do the same without the backlash.
I bitch about all companies equally, or at least I'd like to think I do. I think COD and Ass Creed get ripped for this sort of thing, as well. Really, as long as the games are solid it doesn't matter but you just don't want franchise fatigue to set in. Although I doubt it would with this franchise.

Am hyped for a new Halo Trilogy and I'm really excited to see what 343 can bring to the table.

I want this whole trilogy on 360. I do not want to buy another console anytime soon.

Why is it a surprise to anyone that MS pushing this on 360? After the bath that MS and Sony took on the price of hardware for the first 3 or 4 years of this console cycle, I doubt either are eager to bring new hardware to the market anytime soon. Nintendo positioned themselves to make money out of the gate with the Wii and it suffered in horsepower. I'd venture to say that Project Cafe will, at best, have comparable specs to today's high def consoles.

I'm all for more Halo games on the 360.

Yes, agreed, which is why I said they should announce 720 at next year's E3.

It's not a surprise and understandably so, given how long it's taken Microsoft to break even. I, personally, would love to see this on 720, not 360. 360 has run its course for me and I'd much, much rather see this on 720. I don't want to see this on 360.

With Reach, the Halo series feel like the latest games have maxed out the capabilities of the 360, both graphically and CPU usage-wise.

Halo on a new console would jump start its popularity and the genesis of the next generation in gaming for both PC and Xbox. The Xbox is now on its way to its sixth year.

There's a reason why there have been job mentions/hires and new manufacturer part vendor licensing for Microsoft's Xbox.

For PC, Microsoft is already on Direct X 11. XBOX is still on a Direct X 9 setup.

Yup, you can only do so much with 6 year old hardware. It'll be 7 by the time this launches. I don't want to be playing the first game of a brand new trilogy on 7 year old hardware.

I agree. They should have waited to unveil this on the next console.

This is FAPtacular! All I've wanted from this series ever since the end of my Halo 3 legendary journey. There is no replacement for the Chief. I was worried that 343 was working on the CE remake and that this was going to be a few years away. Very pleased to find out they have been concentrating on this and letting CA handle the remake :) Can't wait to find out more about this game and so awesome that it comes out next year!

All over my face, looks awesome.

So the experience of watching a trailer without knowing what it is for is so awesome, and sharing a youtube link with "Halo 4 Teaser" as the title just gives away the surprise.

Whipped up this if anyone wants to share the trailer with someone without them knowing what it is at first. I made it real quick for a big halo fan I know that didn't watch E3, but I figured I'd post it in case anyone wants to use it.

I'm excited that Halo 4 is coming but I didn't like that trailer much. The Chief and Cortana look off and nothing really happens. I'm keeping my expectations in check until we see the actual game which may not happen until next E3.

Really hope 343 industries will focus a bit more on graphics than Bungie did. Seriously, I never understood how Microsoft didn't demand that every Halo look top notch. I mean, Halo is the Xbox's most important franchise and Halo 3 looked like shit when it was released....

Reach is an amazing looking game, compared to any platform. Yes, PC included.

Well, my only concern is, are they going to work one in without shoehorning it . . . I would honestly prefer a 'marathon' type of direction, maybe a thousand years hence, something completely new plot-wise.
It is going to be weird. They've obvious being building some plot for it with their Forerunner books by Greg Bear but I don't know, go more into the origin of the Flood?

While this Halo game will probably be heavy on the Forerunner stuff, I doubt there'll be any Halo's. :lol

My guess is they're going to tie it to the Forerunner novel trilogy.

It's just a teaser, man. Not a real trailer. I bet they'll show more at PAX. They have to be trickling info out late year and beyond considering this comes out next year.

ANOTHER troll post?

Seriously people, I'm one man, I'm going to get fucking carpal tunnel syndrome from banning people. So here is the take home: If you have no interest in the game, don't come into a thread about halo to bitch about how they are 'milking' halo. It's tiresome and it only incites people. And when you go into 3 threads to post the same thing each time, it's a waste of everybody's time.

Also, math was used to prove that Halo is only milking the franchise at .8 (the lower end of the scale) - with many other franchises milking at 1.35 and beyond.

MATHS.

nice trailer. now all i need is confirmation that join in progress will be in for the MP side of things and then i will officially be hyped :D

I am interested to see what 343 does with the IP. They should call it something else though if they are trying to launch a new trilogy. Halo is fine (if there are still any Halos), but numbers just get ridiculous at some point (this isn't the FF franchise). Trailer looks good as Halo trailers generally do. I look forward to more information.
