Halo 4 Announced (MS Conf, 2012, Start Of New Trilogy)

Most likely no Covenant. This is a different galaxy, near a Forerunner-looking planetoid, and a 'new' trilogy.

Everyone saying its going to be the old engine...

Do we know ANY details on who owned the engine and stuff like that. Its possible that they CANT use the old engine, no?

For the Halo CE remake apparently its the Old engine with just new graphics textures?

You know, you have a point. Halo 4 should not be an FPS, it should be a train simulator.

Look, I'm not saying it needs to switch genre, but the fundamentals haven't changed at all since 2001. And I love Halo, but adding a jetpack and changing the weight of a weapon is not the kind of thing that keeps a franchise fresh over the decades.

I don't think it will be. All of the old characters were left back at Earth. This is a new series with new characters. I am thinking something along the lines of Forerunners. Or, a third and undiscovered group.

Trailer got my hyped big time. Hoping the all-star talen 343i are bringing in can really get back to a game of Halo 2's MP quality. I'm expecting a lot.

I am going with Forerunners controlled by the Flood. Forerunners left thinking they got away from the Flood but a spore or something was on one of their ships.

pretty sure MS/343 got the reach engine to use as they please going forward. frankie said on gttv that they arent talking about what engine halo 4 is using right now, but it sounded like a modified version of reach's - which is fine as its a powerful engine.

I doubt the Flood will play anything but a miniscule role this time around.

I just hope they can at least lock the frame rate at 30...nothing below ever. Reach had it's drops..(FF)

ANOTHER Halo?

The enemy this time around will probably be the Forerunners. I feel that makes the most sense as antagonists to transition to (Unless it's a new, previously unseen party =) ).

Kinda how I feel. I'm fond of the series, but it's hard to get excited about a new Halo, numbered or not, when we've had a new Halo release in 3 of the last 4 years. I could get excited if they waited a couple years and announced it for the new system, but whatev, it's not like I'm forced to buy it until then anyways.

I welcome a 60 fps transition.

No way they're going 60fps. I don't buy that they're just using a modified Reach engine either. That would be a waste of talent after having hired such luminaries as Corrinne Yu.

I for one am stoked about all of the Halo announcements. A Halo: CE remastered edition will be a fun way to relive a lot of my best gaming moments.

As for Halo 4, I believe if there is still a story to be told, it should be told. The Halo universe is one of the most vast and rich of our times, and the legendary ending of Halo 3 definitely set this up. So bring it on. As long as they are pushing out quality games, I don't care how many they push out. Some people will say it is milking the franchise, but as a longtime fan I'll drink all the milk they give me, as long as it doesn't get sour.

We'll see once we see some in game footage next year.

You made the exact same post in two different Halo threads. You must have some issues.

Yeah he's lucky I'm not a mod, way to contribute to the threads dude.

Can't wait for these two games, I would love Frankie to start doing 343iWUs :D

Has to be based around the Forerunners. The new trilogy of books has to be laying the ground work for the new trilogy of games. Going to buy the new Halo book now!

People hate popular series they do not get. More news at 11.

It's funny because these complaints can be applied to any blockbuster series.
"More Metal Gear?"
"More Final Fantasy?"
"More Kingdom Hearts?"
"More God of War?"

Yearly releases. Also, just because other publishers do it doesn't mean people can't complain.

Halo 3 -> Halo Reach -> Halo 4 are the mainline games. Halo 3: ODST and now Halo CE: Anniversary are in between titles with the same multiplayer. Kind of like how Metal Gear Solid does a Subwhatever edition, except here they change the campaign instead of simply adding to it.

Look at God of War: First one in 2005, then one in 2007, then a release of both in 2008, 3 in 2009, and now we're getting a 4th if rumors are true. Then we also have the portable titles. For a title significantly less popular than Halo.

People are shitting on it because it's Halo; because it's a supersoldier in power armor, because it's a FPS, and because it's popular.

EDIT: GoW Collection came out in 2009, not 8. Chains of Olympus was released in 2008. GOW 3 was 2010.

wonder what Bungie's initial reaction was when they found out 343/MS were pissing all over the ending of Halo 3 and starting up the cash cow again.

The only reason Halo is getting back to back releases is because the franchise is in the process of being transferred to a new developer.

Considering how Halo 3 ended, probably expecting it since it continues from right where it left off?

And because it consistently rakes in truck loads of cash for Microsoft. It's hard to deny that they're milking it. The question is why everyone cares so much when other popular franchises do the same without the backlash.

No...no they can't.

Halo 4 continues exactly where Halo 3 left off. What, do you think Bungie didn't see that as a cliffhanger or something?

Kenak said:

Yeah, I think Bungie knew Microsoft was going to continue making more. Based on sales they have no reason not to. This is why they closed him in that cryo tube and his last words were "wake me when you need me." Since Frankie (one of the main guys from Halo 2 and 3) went from Bungie to 343 I (want to) believe Halo 4 will turn out just fine. Microsoft knows they can't let this franchise get diluted too much and die. Halo made Xbox and as such the quality must remain high.

I think Bungie thought it was a fitting ending to the series/story that didn't involve MC being dead.

The ending where Chief said 'wake me when you need me?' C'mon, really. Not to mention the fact that Bungie was considering Halo 4 for their next project before going with Reach.

Yeah they are milking the series but I doubt that we will see another Halo 5 until 2014 or 2015 with new hardware. There is usually a 3 year break between mainline games but it all changed with the developer hand off.

It used to be much worse when it was the most popular FPS. Sony and PC fanboys trolled it whenever and wherever possible, now that Halo isn't seen as a threat anymore, they cut the games some slack.

I'm sort of the same way. I don't get excited about Halo, but I'll always buy them. Just can't get enough of that combat.

So cheaper HD ports are yearly major releases now? I don't see how people are so up in arms over this. So many series do this. Not to mention that Bungie made Reach and left the series. Halo 4 has been in the works for well over a year.

I feel like you guys are being stupid on purpose.

Didn't the legendary ending in halo 3 end exactly where this begins?
