Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn - Part 4 [Available To Watch]

Actually it is.

Hahaha, okay, let's apply this logic.

"Oh, you think the game sucks? Let's see all the games YOU'VE made!!"

"Oh, you think the food tastes bad? Let's see all the gourmet dishes YOU'VE prepared!!"

"Oh, you think 50 Shades of Grey was poorly written? Let's see all the NYT Bestsellers YOU'VE written!!"

Keep sippin' the Kool-Aid.

But when people judge it positively, that's just fine, right? Because it hasn't penetrated the insecurity you have over your enjoyment for FUD?

No, that's not what I said. You guys sure do like to jump to conclussions.

If you didn't like it, or didn't think it's perfect whatever...what do I care? My point was that there were a whole lot of critiques from people who use the jargon, I just wanted to see their work in turn.

I don't get upset over videogames. If you do perhaps you should get some air or something. Have a good weekend.

Wait, is the Narnia chick supposed to be Kat?

Anyway, it was decent, but kind of flat. The scenes aren't really composed in such a way that the story is effectively told. The action scenes were just confusing without being intense, and the shots just aren't providing any dramatic punch. It's like the scene direction and the script aren't on the same page at all.

The actors seem to be fine, and I'll probably watch the next one if I see a thread for it. But I can't help but feel a little disappointed.

Who thought that having a giant AR plastered onto this wall was a good idea?

Also thought that looked ridiculous. The VFX shots overall looked pretty good, but the costumes and some of props looked...el cheapo.

That and the statue of the Roman general holding the AR.

That was /facepalm.

On a positive note, everything about the opening with the UNSC Infinity was very, very sleek. The mayday chatter reminded me of that scene in First Contact when the Federation encountered the Borg and all ships sent out an SOS. Really well done.

Just stop. You obviously do care. Otherwise you wouldn't have posted this:
I didn't know GAF had so many talented film directors/producers actors and the like. I can't wait to see the fantastic films you've made.

Yeah, the opening was full of hype. It went downhill from there but dayyyymmm Haloguy up close was cool

u crazy

but seriously, this looks a lot better:

So good. I really liked the usage of nice bright yet gritty colors as well. Sometimes his mockumentary style was a little off, but District 9 really showed he could do an awesome movie.

They aren't on a battle field. They are aristocratic kids training to be leaders. I would expect their base to look clean and upscale.

If you find that comment to be some extraordinary proof then fine, you've got me. I don't take it back or change it. It's perfectly reasonable to expect some type of example of ones own work given the type of critique. If you don't understand that or get that then I don't know what else to tell you.

Also, this. What were they thinking? The room itself just looks... almost gross, if you will. Like I feel like the color of the room would make me physically ill to stand in it.

See post #201 for details.

You really got all that out of my comment? Really?

Besides that being a bad analogy based off of even worse assumptions you're wrong about my point. You're trying way too hard for no reason. Have fun with that.

Dude, please take it to PMs. You're spamming a good discussion thread with a nonsensical personal squabble.

Good one, brah.

SMH. Fans like this are the reason 343i doesn't even need to try to write a decent script.

That Blopmkamp film is much cooler but even he can't keep some of the marine armor from looking goofy. Some things just don't transition well to live-action.

Ok, sorry for joking around. Man, "doesn't even try?" Maybe you should stick with "this isn't for me, but it's cool if others like it" and head out?

Do tell how I misunderstood your comment about how nobody is allowed to criticize the film unless they have prior filmmaking experience. I'm all ears.

You made a whiny, fanboyish attempt at defending 343 against all criticism and now you're trying to backpedal your way out of it. I doubt it's fooling anyone.

Ok, sorry for joking around. Man, "doesn't even try?" Maybe you should stick with "this isn't for me, but it's cool if others like it" and head out?

Sorry sarcasm doesn't translate very well over text.

Dude, just let it be and head out. No need to try and force your opinion on people that like the film. Slamming 343 is not going to make things better.

Where am I slamming 343? I'm pointing out flaws I saw which, in my opinion, negatively impacted the quality of the film, same as any number of posters in this thread.

And I said I wished they had instead used the resources to make the actual Halo 4 game even better, because I fully intend to buy it.

Slamming 343, really?

Edit: And "Let's see you write a better script" or a sentiment along those lines will never be a valid response to criticism, sorry. Especially when there are plenty of posters here that have pointed out specific areas of the film that need improvement and how to improve them.

I took this
"SMH. Fans like this are the reason 343i doesn't even need to try to write a decent script."
as you trying to take a shot at them, and their fans.

I just don't think it's worth your time to sit in a mostly positive thread and try to convince people that it's bad. Won't end well for either side I'd guess. Just my observation.

That and the statue of the Roman general holding the AR. Cheesy. And the overuse of the "Axios!" or however it's spelled thing.

Overuse? It's a battle cry. And it's common in the military, especially in training. Ever seen Band of Brothers? They yell "Currahee!" all the time.

I didn't know GAF had so many talented film directors/producers actors and the like. I can't wait to see the fantastic films you've made.

There are a lot of assumptions and critics being made off of 20 minutes of footage. It's almost as if some of you didn't even watch it. To each their own. I really liked it. Great initial setup, the bad part is waiting for episodes. Great job 343.

Hahahahaha.

Wow.

And I said I wished they had instead used the resources to make the actual Halo 4 game even better, because I fully intend to buy it.

I don't see where you get that from. The Halo property is now much more than just the game. They don't have one big pool of money for the game that they siphoned off for this commercial or that project, or a series of books. This might be marketing for Halo 4 but it's also it's own product unto itself. Cancelling this project wouldn't have suddenly made Halo 4 better.

I took this
"SMH. Fans like this are the reason 343i doesn't even need to try to write a decent script."
as you trying to take a shot at them, and their fans.

That was due to your response to another member's criticism of the writing. If you were joking when you said that then my comment is void because I missed the sarcasm.

i38lzC96nuzw.jpg

Yeah. I didn't like that. I tried to convince myself it made sense but I ended up failing to come up with any reasons.

I thought they should have had like the ODST insignia or some other design.

The discussion is getting a little out of control guys. I found some things that were goofy, and things I wouldn't have done. Yet overall, I thought it was a really good first start. Everyone is going to want to see "Landfall" level action in each of these 15 mins shorts, and that's just not going to happen in every episode, it's a movie, it has pacing and build up. How does this compare to other webshorts? This appears to be the best one I've seen.

The lady officer helped develop the design of the modern AR, she has the plaster up as a constant reminder of her achievement.

But then again, even their training outfits look too perfect. They kept saying how the kid had ruined multiple training scenarios for them, yet all their gear looked pristine.

You may want to watch again in 1080p There is clear wear and tear on all the helmets.

Oh jesus totally forgot about the roman guy having a fucking AR. Why not just give him a spear? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS

Halo gotta AR!

But seriously I enjoyed it overall, if only because I like seeing different media take on the IPs that I love.

It definitely had some head scratching moments though.

True, but on the flip side there is no reason for it too look so plastic like. So if making them more dirty would have made em look better then they should have went for it.

It should have been a BR. They all should have BR's for that matter.

Surprisingly decent. Though that might just be because I was expecting it to be much worse.

Though I have to say I am so sick of people casting actors that look like they could walk down a model's catwalk as soldiers that have supposedly undergone intense training.

This is the cadets, so I can try and buy into it, but almost everybody there looks like they would quite literally snap under pressure.

Keep the pretty boys and girls as pilots, damn you. The soldiers need to be beefy. That's what I liked about Kat in Reach. Went against the stereotype hot model that can kick ass.

How do you reconcile this thought process with posting on neogaf

Theyre supposed to be pretty young to be fair, but I get what you're saying.

I liked it.
Very Battlestar-ish feels from it, though, so that's a plus.
I I can understand the AR on the wall and statue, because I assume they're in a different reality than our own. This is a place to train Cadets in the art of war. A NORMAL statue would have made sense in our world, but this is HALO. The AR is not only a staple of the franchise, but a Widely beloved gun, with a VERY distinct look.

Considering that not too many other guns have been indicated throughout halo's past as the guns of choice for soldiers, I'd also assume there aren't too many other Iconic possibilities for being used as a symbol.

This is my opinion.

The pacing feels right, as well.

Gripes:

All the cadets I almost immediately hate. They look like twats (intentional?).

Roman statue with an AR? Sounds like a bunch of nerds cobbling together a script, pure cheese. Ditto with the Sarge chewing a cigar, really?

That kind of insubordination goes unpunished? Wth.

Pluses:

I want to see more.
