Halo 4: Review Thread

A company whether internal or not, have their bonuses attributed to some sort of agreement whether it be sales, meta scores or another factor. So yes they do have to worry my friend.

They don't get thrown money for just making a game. Results count, it's what makes business revolve.
Yes, of cource but less then an independent developer that gets funding through a publisher.

This thread has proved to me that fans will never be satisfied, I have yet to play the game so I am not sure what to say about it, however it won't bother me if they indeed didn't change anything because Halo is still one of best FPS games out there.

7 from GameKult:

http://www.gamekult.com/jeux/test-halo-4-J110554t.html#x360

+ Classic campaign but efficient
+ Very pretty
+ Multi, coop and competitive modes
+ Free content with Spartan Ops

- Too few innovations
- Game design showing its age
- Short (Only 8 levels)
- Weird/random checkpoint system
- Tron atmosphere may shock purists

The negatives don't bother me much. I didn't want them to change the formula and short and sweet campaign is better than filler.

Probably paid off by Sony. Never heard of them anyway so their opinion is invalid.
This is satire, right?

Then a few years after that everyone will be reminiscing about how much they loved Reach, and how it was easily the best one.
Reach is the best one.(FPS wise)

Yeah, why are the Halo campaigns always so short? Every time! Isn`t it possible to do a 10 hours campaign? No, sorry 343 not this time. I won`t spent money on 6 hour games anymore (and yes, i don`t care for multiplayer).
Firefight?

No offense, that's some stupid shit right there. They were given a game to review. They reviewed it. You're mad that they chose to use the top end of the grading scale?
No, we are mad that all Halo, COD, Gears, Elder Scrolls, and GTA are treated like they must get the highest scores.

Really?, their opinion is automatically invalid because you've never heard of them and they've gave it a 7?

I love Halo and unless it gets universally slammed I really couldn't care less tbh, especially considering my favourite Halo game is ODST which one of the lowest scored games in the franchise.

People may be expecting me to kick off over the review score, but I'd actually like to thank 343i for successfully maintaining such high quality of what I consider to be gamings greatest ip. In the hands of less talented people, this could have been a fucking disaster and Halo would have been the next Star Wars, so thanks 343i for laying a solid foudation down for this new trilogy.

With the power of experience, new hardware, the story hitting its stride and the confidence to take the ip in a more adventurous direction, I fully expect Halo 5 to be one of the greatest fps's of all time.

(Unless it doesn't have a server browser ;D)

...

No seriously, add a fucking server browser for fuck sake.

Well if you stated that in the first place fine, but you said they don't need to worry. I corrected that statement.

Yes, there would be more pressure from a outside publisher in most cases for sure, but when you have a multi-billion dollar franchise in the balance, you can bet your arse there would be extreme pressure internally probably more so in this case.

love that theres a few perfect 10s, u dont see that often. i am excited but i would be more excited if it was released a lot earlier then Black Ops, ill be getting both games but I dont have enough time for 2 MP shooters, looks like ill need to find time if this game is as good as it looks

Hmmm... Really curious why this wasn't a Win 8 launch title as well... new trilogy, another shot for MS on pc.... ah forget it.

Solitare with achievements is the most one can expect out of MS on pc it seems.

They just released two of their biggest downloadable games on PC recently( Mark of the Ninja and Deadlight). lol

What do the luddites make of BioShock Infinite?

it's a whole new game slapped with the BioShock name to help make it sell. and, please, I love innovation in games, I just don't expect it from every major sequel because you'd be mad to expect something that almost never happens.

Thank you, I was really worried that 343 was going to go the 'cinematic linear route' with Halo 4, I've been on media blackout since it's announcement, the level design was my only worry but that quote has quashed my fears.
It seems like EDGE's take is a bit conflicting with IGN's:

The trump card is the same as always: a sense of solidarity in movement and aiming that makes weighty sense of fighting through the bio-enhanced body of a supersoldier. And Halo 4’s focus is tightly pulled onto close-quarters encounters, highlighting this kinetic accomplishment. The grand staged battles favoured by the preceding sequels are gone, replaced by tightly mapped fights with small clusters of Prometheans and Covenant; the lessons of Assault On The Control Room have been learnt and are repeatedly put into practice.

I just don't understand how people can be satisfied with the exact same thing over and over again.

Okay you like Halo, but don't you want a new developer to go in some interesting directions, gameplay-wise, for the new trilogy? Do you seriously want Halo 6 to play pretty much exactly the same as Halo 1?

Some people don't need innovation just for the sake of it. Halo is still the best console FPS multiplayer formula. Give me more of that.

Innovation is overrated. The best formula's are still those that were made years ago (StarCraft for RTS, CS for PC FPS, Halo for console FPS, DOTA, Civ for turn based strategy, etc.) These franchises iterate while plenty of other devs are trying to innovate, and they still remain on top.

Not surprised to be seeing the high scores. Doesn't surprise me anymore with any AAA release and I take almost every review with a grain of salt considering that current landscape of the review/writing of these games.

Could use a demo for sure.

Ten mountain dews sitting on the wall
Ten mountain dews sitting on the wall
And if one mountain dew should accidently spill
There'll be nine mountain dews sitting on the wall

There'll be Eight Mountain Dews sitting on the wall.

sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me.

it's not "every major sequel," either. this is like, the fifth halo game.

I remember all the hoopla about all the FREE episodic content that would be coming for weeks after the game shipped. The moment I heard this I thought "they're just going to throw waves of enemies at you in environments ripped right from the campaign". Apparently my assessment was right on the money.

GiantBomb said:
The locations are ripped from other parts of the game and are extremely combat heavy. And once you're past that initial cutscene, any additional dialogue is delivered via radio chatter. If you're into the combat of Halo and like playing with others against occasionally overwhelming batches of enemies, the missions are passable. But don't go in thinking that this is some sort of elaborate and unique segment of the game that's going to give you a campaign-level experience. It's a set of co-op missions with a loose story wrapper around it, nothing more, nothing less.

Someone in the know: are there still big open levels for epic firefights in the campaign or is it smaller scale battles now?

Now this is an interesting turn of events.

Any AAA game like this always elicits that sort of feeling from me. I'll decide myself.

The game looks very fun but I unfortunately have not played any of it and likely won't be until next year. I recently re-acquired a 360 and have been reacquainting myself with it though.

"The grand staged battles favoured by the preceding sequels are gone, replaced by tightly mapped fights with small clusters of Prometheans and Covenant; the lessons of Assault On The Control Room have been learnt and are repeatedly put into practice"

My biggest disappointment thus far. Also, is their actually allied AI in this game?

Godawful doritos jokes are getting annoying. People also clinging on lower scored reviews is also questionable.

I agree,..

Assault on the Control Rooms/Two Betrayals had the best designed and most memorable encounters in Halo 1.
