Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Okay, I'm desperate now. Can anyone explain to me why the Halo 5 MP Beta is eternally greyed out in the MCC menu and why I'm unable to download the Beta properly? I did the work around trick, watching the Halo Nightfall episodes and pressing A on the rewards to be taken to the store where I proceeded to download the Beta. I managed to then play a few games even though whenever trying to play with a friend, I'd be kicked out and forced to restart the game, but lately I'm unable to even get into a single game without the red triangle error popping up. I suspect this is because I wasn't even supposed to be able to download the Beta and had to do that work around trick but my question is this, why can't I download the Beta and have it work the way everyone elses does? I'd try reinstalling the Beta, but I'm not convinced that would fix the problem unless it stops being greyed out in the MCC.

Hell if I know, man. Try to contact support? Sounds real weird.

That sucks, have you tried the Nightfall method?
Go skim through all the episodes and collect your unlocks by pressing x and it takes you to the beta download page.

The only thing I can suggest is call xbox support and walk through the issue with them.

They will be able to look at your account and see if you have had your privileges checked ( MCC joke ).

If you are having some unusual problems then calling support is the best way to go because of the information they have access too.

Sorry. I hope someone else can give you a better answer.

ADS is left trigger in CoD...lol. And Battlefield...and Destiny...
Yep, crazy how homogeneous the FPS genre has become (on consoles, at least)

Don't the majority of PC shooters default to mouse 1 for firing?
I mean in genral. Things like having LT to aim, sprint, ADS, progression systems,etc...

On PC you can stll find some variety when it comes to shooters.

Improvement! Still at the bottom, though.

I was like that at first. The first seven or so matches I absolutely hated the game, thought it wasn't very fun. Didn't have anything else to do, though, so pushed through. Eventually I got to a point where I really, really enjoyed it. Now I'm doing better (although I do occasionally end up at the bottom of the scoreboard) and really enjoy the game.

Yeah, try sticking with a teammate and help each other out. Running off alone is the fastest way to die in this game.

Also, this. Too god damn many of my deaths are me happening upon several of the other team, me almost killing one of them, and then the firepower from two or more of them kills me.

And then that guy with no shields and 26% health lives on for another day.

Third game was more like my first. It was on Midship (or whatever it is called now) and I just feel so frustrated on the map. I know if well from Halo 2 - it was one of my faves - but it seems like that map is populated with higher skilled players. It might be my small sample size, though. I was not anywhere near getting kills both times I played on Midship.

Wonder if that's why I'm not doing as well lol. In Halo MCC you can go it alone and hunt down individuals whereas nine times out of ten I'm getting picked off by someone else's team mate in this.

We've only got 2 small maps to play with. To be expected. This will change when there are bigger maps.

I'm really digging this game. I've been doing really good in matches but my teamates usually let the team down. I'm still having a blast.
TTK feels good. BR and DMR are great. I keep my distance and destroy anyone trying to aproach with AR or SMG.
The SMG does seem a tad too strong when going up against people with ARs. It feels like I win against AR's all the time with the SMG. Or i lose alot when going against an SMG with an AR. It is a pick up so maybe thats fine.
The sword on truth seems really strong when theres nothing to counter it up close, wheres my shotty damnit.

All in all, its amazing!

Please tell me, besides the southpaw layout, when is RT anything but shoot?

You replied to a comment stating that RT was zoom now since 343 took over because of CoD. At least proofread your posts before you throw out some senseless accusation.

The CoD configuration is what most console gamers know, but I would encourage any Halo fan of old to switch to Recon or something that doesn't have LT to zoom. I think LT to zoom tricks your mind into thinking this game needs to be played like other ADS shooters, but that simply isn't the case.

best controller scheme for me would be

LT zoom
LB jump
RB grenade
RT shoot
LS move/crouch
RS look/melee
X thruster pack
A change grenade
B reload
Y switch weapons

jump on a bumper is the most important to me. being able to look while you jump is something you just can't afford to pass up in a game with a faster pace. similarly, melee on B prevents you from meleeing while turning, so the best place is either RB or the stick. i'd put it on the stick to use it while turning and use RB for grenades so it's right next to the trigger. i also think zoom works better on the trigger because clicking disturbs the position of the reticle, even by a small margin. being able to crouch under a shot is important in Halo, so i'd put that on the left stick. this is assuming sprint isn't in the game (and it shouldn't be).

this is similar to the jumper controls in destiny, which would be perfect for Halo if the crouch button wasn't so far away. the bumper jumper controls in H5 feel so awkward and unbalanced.

I still really enjoy the Halo 4 format.

LT Grenade
RT Shoot
LS Sprint
RS Zoom
LB Boost
RB Melee
A Jump
B Crouch
X Reload
Y Switch Weapons

This is the most in-line with past Halos, and personally I find that putting zoom on a left trigger would be a handicap--I'd imagine it'd lead people to zoom in way more often than they need to, and destroy any capability they would have with a BR, pistol, or espeically a DMR. By relegating it to the right stick, you still use it when necessary, but go without it unless you think you need it. Although, I do admit, this gimps the AR because I never use Smart Scope with it and so I always lose gunfights when I have it out--but instead I just switch to my pistol at spawn immediately, which can handle the job while I search for a better weapon.

I've come to the realization I cannot play after midnight. Literally my team is a wrecking machine. I'm posting 22-28 kill games regularly. My other two friends are on point. As soon as it hit's midnight our over 30 asses turn to complete shit. I drop to about an even or slightly under ratio and my boys turn into 3-5 kills 12+ deaths.

It makes no sense why this isn't a control scheme.

Give me this:

LT Grenade
RT Shoot
LB Sprint
RB Reload
LS Crouch
RS Zoom
A Jump/Clamber
B Melee/Ground Pound [in air]
X Thrust
Y Switch Weapons

And I'll be alright

Is the server down? Can't connect

My TV screen goes into seizure mode when it searches for players and it times out

Wtf

I've been playing for around an hour and a half and think its really good! The boost mechanic takes the most time getting used to, but Im getting there. I like how it feels weighted and understated. Its seemingly good for rushing behind a corner, or over top a jump. its good for making a single move. The cool down also seems to suggest that to me. Unlike COD, which I also enjoyed a lot, where you could basically fly with boosts.

Having power weapons is cool, it gives everyone a central thing to fight over. But its also not OP. Even though the sniper is a power weapon it doesnt mean your going to get automatic kills with it. Same with the sword. On the topic of weapons, I love the smg. I thought it was usless in halo 2, and its just the right amount of strength now. The pistol is also surprisngly useful, I'll switch to that on the regular to finish someone off now.

Considering 90% of the time, RT is shoot, it's not hard to assume it was a typo.....
Typos aside, yeah, it's obvious the default control scheme having LT to ADS is a concession made for the modern shooter crowd. ADS itself is another. So was sprint back when it was introduced in Reach; and perks, killstreaks, custom loadouts, grenade indicators and flich when they were introduced in Halo 4.

Heh, I remember exactly the same shit happened when Halo got popular. Every game had to have a two weapon limit, recharging health/shields, dedicated buttons for melees and grenades... Homogenization! Yay! LOL.

Seriously, though, if someone's looking for diversity, the console FPS genre is not a very good place to find it.
