Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

They're remixed maps, reusing assets is the whole point of them. It's a way to bolster the map count, and I approve personally. Way better than Forge shit.

only because forge maps are held back both structurally and visually by the nature of an editor.

eden is an unsubtle display of amateur, phoned-in map design. endless dead space, poorly connected rooms, tacked on walkways with random ramps and ledges. then the same bases from empire are pasted verbatim, only the cross-map sightlines are stretched and poorly weighted now. and then it's dark, smh

there have been community maps with designs that are leaps ahead of it. if 343 is going to half ass the map pool by lazily reusing assets, i'd rather they just give us an actual level creator.

Regret is by far my favorite map of the beta. Love the textures, the skybox, the lighting and god rays, even the sounds. Eden is alright. I like it more than Empire.

I really like the new maps that they put in. I do wish they would've left the other two in, though. The more content, the better.

Also, they need to fix matchmaking (obviously). Keep getting terrible teammates and it's killing my vibe. :( Gonna have to play with some gaffers later! :)

One gameplay change i have is to actually make the cooldown for the boost shorter. I feel like it takes far too long to recharge for it to actually be beneficial in battle. I get that it should be saved for that "one moment", where you really need it, but too often I find myself using it to dodge a grenade only to get bum-rushed by the enemy team.

EDIT: Also, BR starts are the best. I hope there will be a choice between BR and AR starts in the final game. I love this BR so much.

These new maps are not that great. Eden is bad. Also I am getting matched with lower skilled people, a bronze and an iron. What the heck

Yup, Pretty much sums up my impression of the map.

I hope that the recycling won't be a trend when the full game comes out. I don't give a rats arse about a high map count if it means I have to play shit maps that feel similar to a previous map, or has a chunk of a previous map copy and pasted into it. Plus it'd just increase my chance of having to play maps I don't enjoy through public matchmaking voting. Quality over quantity for me.

Breakout is pretty terrible. I think it would work better if the health systems were just normal. I don't like a swat type health system with a round based mode.

I disagree. Playing Halo with full health/shields when outnumbered is a terrible experience. If it was full health basically whichever team gets the first kill wins the round which isn't all that exciting. With the way it is currently having more players gives an obvious advantage but you have a better chance to outplay the enemy team to come back and win the round.

lol, the map has been live for a couple of hours. I think it flows a lot better than Empire, which is a campfest at opposite power spots with 2 snipers. I think the night time setting hurts it a lot though.

New map is my favorite of the bunch at the moment. Eden, that is.

Breakout is pretty fun, too. It's nice to have an elimination mode like this that isn't infection.

BR starts have definitely made this a lot worse than AR. Sure if you're a skilled player it's probably better but not everyone is. Now most weapons aren't getting touched and the handgun is next to useless.
Don't tell me matchmaking should work so we don't verse those skilled players because it doesn't when people are a party of 4 and you're solo.

I quite like Breakout though so I'll happily play a lot of that this week.

I like the maps so far and the remix thing is sort of cool. But I hope the remix maps don't make the total count of the maps less because 50% are remixes.

Unpopular opinion: I liked AR/Pistol starts much more. Not because I'm bad with a BR - but the variety on weapon usage was pretty refreshing and it was fun to actually switch weapons based on different situations.

I feel like I'm dying after I've already taken cover or boosted behind a wall WAY more often than I ever have in other Halo games. I have videos of me boosting away and then dying. It's like you can't even count on line of sight anymore.

Eden is much, much better than Empire. Empire is straight trash, but Eden actually has far better sightlines and weapon placement. Regret is okay, they hydra is trash though.
That or I just have no clue how to properly use it.

Breakout is fairly good. The maps are decent, and with the design it seems like it'd be easy for them to get a good selection in there. I assume they'll be easy to make in forge.

A bit confused on the ranking system though. My understanding was it didn't take personal performance into account at all - yet me and my friend played all ten of our placement matches together and got different ranks.

Feel the same way to be honest. Whilst the BR is my favourite gun on the Beta I preferred going up against a variety of guns even if the AR pissed me off a few times when it shredded me.

Stuck on searching for player. lmao 343 this is pathetic man.

Why would you be ''LMAO'' because you are stuck on searching for players? Have you tried a refresh? left multiplayer via a party? rebooted the game?

Weird post.

You have to be kidding. I can't see shit on that map. Talk about dark floors - I thought Truth was bad. You can't see anything on the ground to pickup, and You can't even see players especially blue ones long distance.

The AR is still viable, but now we arent forced to find the gun that should be standard(br). Its usable if you want. Br starts are way better.

This is what I've always thought about the Halo sandbox and it annoys me to no end that "pro" players NEED to have br starts. Great, now it's a non-stop pinging session across the map. And now we have perfectly good starter weapons in Halo 5 beta and those same people still aren't happy with having 5 br's and dmr's strewn around the map.

Agreed.

Haven't checked the beta in a few days. loaded up Breakout. Sort of fun, but lag again. Getting killed from behind objects or rolling back is annoying.

I didn't have any visibility problems. I found it to be a much better playing map than Empire which is just too cramped. It's essentially an up close automatic weapon map only. As far as picking up weapons, that's a UI issue in my opinion. They need to make it more clear when you're in range to swap a weapon and bring back the pictures.

Yeah, I have been noticing more lag today. I have been insta-killed three times Breakout and have had a few people survive extraordinary damage.
