Lore wise, elites did design it for Spartans. I hope you don't need it in the beta for the full release. I won't have all legendary campaigns completed before the beta.
 
Couple of annoying things. Screen goes black instantly when you die. Cant see kills from the grave. There is no weapon icon when you walk over a weapon. I don't want to read small text in the heat of battle.

how many mathces have you played? i found that 15-20 matches in they get a LOT more competitive. skill matchmaking seems to work quite well once it has a decent idea of who to match you with.

I'm in the EU, pretty much the same. I know when I'm not playing in my region. 343 done good! But I would like a choose the datacenter option in the full game.
 
I had a weird audio bug yesterday. But tbh I'm not sure if it was down to the game or the Xbox UI. My snap settings have it so when something is snapped, the main window is completely silent with the snap 100% volume. This is so when I snap YouTube/TV for whatever reason it isn't drowned out by pew pew (Loot cave anyone?).

A couple of times yesterday, when I snapped something and then closed the snap, the audio didn't go back to normal. I had to open TV full screen and then go home and open up the beta again.

I don't know how they're assumptions. The beta is out. Competitive matches have been played by pros. I play competitively. The introduction of abilities have changed how a competitive match is played than before for the worse and vastly different to a competitive match in Halo used to be. It is no longer a standard game for matching (competitive matches) like Counter Strike, the abilities and all the other stuff have turned this into a kettlepot for the COD crowd. That is my main point. Any game can be competitive including this one.

Since I am being negative, to be clear, do I think the game is fun? Yes. Is it better than I thought? Yes, I think a lot of people will enjoy the game. Do I think this game has long legs in the competitive circuit? No. I don't think it will even become more popular than what Halo 3 was on MLG with Sundance and Puckett.
 
Just came in to say I love it so far. Think the changes were warranted. Good job 343! Love ADS, Love the sword combined with thrusters.

Thruster, run melee combo is perfect. Great addition.

That's going to be hard to achieve even if Halo 5 turns out to be the best Halo game yet.

The competition from other games is a lot stiffer than it used to be back in 2007.

These are contradictory statements. If a game as unskilled as COD can be somewhat popular in the competitive circuit, why not Halo 5?

The game looks like fun to play and it is fun to play. While the level of skill involved is obviously a factor, the above condition is what it really comes down to in the end in terms of viewership (which would explain why COD sometimes gets more viewers than Halo, for instance).

Spectator mode is going to do wonders if it works properly.
 
Glad to hear folks are having fun with this game. Halo fans have been shit on for so long, they deserve way better. Strikes me as a few too many steps away from what I know to be Halo, but if it's good then all due credit to 343.
 
After playing 27 games, I strongly believe sprint has to go. It's just pointless and unnecessary. 343 should increase the base movement speed and keep thrust and maybe allow two thrust before the cool-down if sprint get removed. Other than that i think this game is great.
 
How is there no countdown to when you respawn?

There should also be a small countdown for when the match will start while the map is loading up.

Can I ask why you think it is pointless and unnecessary?

I personally think it is the best implementation of any sprint in any FPS game.
 
So I redeemed my two codes online.

Was at my moms house so signed into my brothers Xbox and downloaded the game. We both played it for a bit and had a good time.

Got home and signed into my xbox and downloaded the game. But when I try to play it, it tells me to come back on the 29th? WTF... surely it should work on my XBL account regardless of what Xbox i'm on?

The first line of your quote referred to my previous statement. The second sentence of the line was in response to the poster who said there is no indication Halo 5 wont be competitive.

The second quote is what I think.
 
First game of the day I went 20-2.

I've never been this good at a Halo game before. It scares me because I sucked at Halo 2 and Halo 3, yet did well in Reach and even better in 4.

There are also way too many bugs in this build. I have to restart the beta every time I finish a game.

Sprint isn't necessary in H5G Arena because the maps are small enough that a slight bump in base move speed would be enough for traversal.

It creates a dumb chase encounter wherein both players are helpless and all it does is delay the inevitable.

Without sprint, the chaser is able to offensively engage while maintaining the same distance gap.
Because the chaser is able to engage, the player attempting to escape is forced to outplay by utilizing their skill and map awareness.

Having sprint lessens the skill gap.

Possibly a bug. My cousin was getting the same message but he tried again later and it worked.
 
Going to play some more matches, but after a day and half with this game, ehhhhhh it's good, but ehhhhhhhhhh thought the same of Halo 4.

You need to download the access code too. Press the start / options button on the beta tile on your dashboard and select Manage Game from the options. On the screen that loads you'll find the small access file in the ready to install section on the right. Grab that and it'll work :-)

The invitation is considered dlc. Go to Manage Game on the beta and see if you can download it again.

Once the skill factors set in I think you'll find it harder. I started 20-5 and haven't been doing so well recently. I'm still figuring things out though.

Hopefully they get toned down a bit.

I can understand them buffing the autos to get rid of the "SMG/AR starts" syndrome, but when they are beating out BR's and DMR's in >mid ranges they are too strong.
 
Hate the way your performance rank decreases just for losing. What if you perform way better than the rest of your teammates and carry the team but still lose? Kind of unfair to punish players for other peoples performances. Should've named it "Team Performance" rank.
