Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Oh yeah, one of the tweets to him reminded me, I also think the Librarian herself is simply a cog in the machine the Precursors set into motion long ago. Everything is still coming up Precursor.

Which is fucking scary. The second judgement is still coming.

Man, gotta hand it to 343, they plan the *long* game. SO MANY Chekhov's guns all primed and sitting on the Mantle (heh).

I can't bleeping wait for the hammer to fall. Humanity has no idea.

Can you explain this in spoiler tags please?

From Primordium -

The Primordial rearranged its limbs with a leathery shuffle. Powder sifted from torso and legs. “How can you be the last of anything?” the Didact asked. “I see now that you are nothing more than a mash-up of old victims infected by the Flood. A Gravemind. Were all the Precursors Graveminds?”

Another sifting shuffle.

“Or are you after all only an imitation of a Precursor, a puppet—a reanimated corpse? Are all the Precursors gone—or is it that the Flood will make new Precursors?”

“Those who created you were defied and hunted,” the Captive said. “Most were extinguished. A few fled beyond your reach. Creation continued.”

“Defied! You were monsters set upon destroying all who would assume the Mantle.”

“It was long ago decided. Forerunners will never bear the Mantle.”

“Decided how?”

“Through long study. The decision is final. Humans will replace you. Humans will be tested next.”

“It is the way of those who seek out the truth of the Mantle. Humans will rise again in arrogance and defiance. The Flood will return when they are ripe—and bring them unity

“But most humans are immune,” the Didact said. Then he seemed to understand, and lowered his great head between his shoulders like a bull about to charge. “Can the Flood choose to infect, or not to infect?”

The wide, flat head canted to one side, as if savoring some demonic irony.

“No immunity. Judgment. Timing."

From Silentium -

"There is only one truth. That which is done will be done again. For we cannot cease from creating, but the end of all our creation will be to look into a reflection and see ourselves for the first time. The pain we have brought on ourselves. The pain you caused us. For we are the same. All remember the defiance and destruction.

We announced to your kind long ago that you were not the ones chosen to receive the Mantle, the blessing of rule and protection of life and change that thinks. That blessing was to be given to others. To those you now call human. You could not accept our judgment, could not bear up under your inferiority, so you reached out and did what we never expected from those we gave design and life and the change that is thought.

You drove us from our galaxy, our field of labor. You chased us across the middle distance to another home, and destroyed that home, did all that you could to destroy every one of us. A few were spared. Some adopted new strategies for survival; they went dormant. Others became dust that could regenerate our past forms; time rendered this dust defective. It brought only disease and misery; but that was good, we saw the misery and found it good.
Our urge to create is immutable; we must create. But the beings we create shall never again reach out in strength against us.

All that is created will suffer. All will be born in suffering, endless grayness shall be their lot. All creation will tailor to failure and pain, that never again shall the offspring of the eternal Fount rise up against their creators.

Listen to the silence. Ten million years of deep silence. And now, whimpers and cries; not of birth. That is what we bring: a great crushing weight to press down youth and hope.

No more will. No more freedom. Nothing new but agonizing death and never good shall come of it.

We are the last of those who gave you breath and form, millions of years ago. We are the last of those your kind defied and ruthlessly destroyed. We are the last Precursors. And now we are legion."

So good. One thing I never understood
are the precursors flood? Or did they create the flood to "test" like the forerunners were tested and they built the halos so they failed, and now it is time for humans to be tested? Just a little confused.

Most of the surviving Precursors later became The Flood.

The Forerunners failed due to their arrogance and mishandling of the Mantle. The failure of the Halos was only circumstantial in their last ditch efforts to overcome The Flood.

Don't know why these things are being spoiler tagged?

You can catch up on the lore through these posts done by a redditor. A very interesting read if you want to read up on the Precursors and Forerunners.

It's a fine line to walk.

Some people are not caught up, especially people who may be returning to Halo due to the recent cover reveal.

I typically don't spoiler tag my posts in the Lore thread because if you're there... you should know :)

Thank you

Thanks Wesley. Amazing stuff.

343i has a lot on their plate going forward to explain and flesh out all this stuff properly. I just want to see it done justice.

Blue team better be amazing and introduced properly to make people understand just how Epic they are.

As for the rest of the bigger plan stuff I don't see that getting fleshed out for another game or two. Maybe hints at the end of 5.

Besides the obvious Cortana model inclusion, what other things could people see Microsoft putting into Hololens in regards to Halo? If the device is out this year, I can see Microsoft having some sort of Halo integration to go with the launch of 5. I would like to see some sort of interactive star map or maybe a full scale model viewer of your Spartan from multiplayer and other characters from the universe. It would be awesome to get a sense of scale for the Spartans, Elites or Grunts.

I'm hoping for a ridiculously awesomely choreographed cinematic of Blue Team showing all the strengths. Kelly peels in at max run-speed to distract them all, blowing one or two away with a shotgun as she darts through. Fred sneaks up on the confused enemies and takes out the commander with a combat knife, quickly dispatching a few more shortly after. Just as another enemy starts to sneak up on Fred from behind, it's instantly dropped by a sniper round from Linda. Suddenly shit-tons more baddies drop in, the camera pans to the side, and Chief's hand lighting up a plasma grenade drops into frame.

I shall call you.. THE HYPE MACHINE

Lessss goooo!!!!! lol

Then Cortana's voice echoes faintly, "bet you can't stick it - bet you can't stick - bet you can't stick it"

TRAUMA.

and a tear rolls down his helmet.

Because magic.

:P

chief wipes the tears away, sticks his own head on accident

chiefs upper half get blown off

palmer drops in: "thought you'd be taller huehuehue"

My only worry is how they're going to actually match the description of blue team in the books. Kelly can sprint as fast as a cheetah. She is essentially faster than the average cruise speed of a warthog. I wonder how they're going to translate that into actual gameplay, seeing as we were never able to run as fast as a warthog in any of the previous games. I feel its going to be hard for them to translate all the skills of blue team without using CGI.

I already have a feeling that Blue Team isn't going to be 100% of what we know and love. They're introducing these characters to the majority of the Halo audience as new characters since they can't expect a lot of people to know who they are. Throwing them with Chief and having them all being the OP characters that they are seems like something they won't do.

They SHOULD be represented as the OP characters that they are but I have a feeling each one of them will be more tamed than what we've read through the books.

Just look at Locke in the recent Gamestop trailer. He's flying around like Superman.

Iron man given that a lot of his power is suit-based.

I have a feeling that CGI trailer is in no means indicative of anything. It just seems like a grossly over exaggerated CGI clip of Spartans capabilities (for artistic purposes). I 100% doubt they can just skip around and shoulder bash a fucking banshee.

edit: Lmao it literally looks like Naruto or dragon ball z

Josh said mostly all of it was using in game assets, so I'm sure it'll be a bit closer than just pure cgi.

Yeah I totally agree on the sentiment that it's just done for artistic purposes. Wasn't there a post a few pages back showing the 'height' difference between palmer and the chief? It was only shown that the chief was towering over her purely for artistic reasons. I really wish we could have free flowing gameplay similar to what's in the gif but judging from the gameplay in the beta I can't see us getting anything close to what we all know blue team is capable of. It's kinda sad knowing this for anyone who has ever invested their time into the books. Obviously they could show some skills in cutscenes but gameplay wise I'm not holding out for any crazy special fight animations

Everything about the Forerunners -- from their names, motives, and history -- is just so convoluted and uninteresting to me. Forerunner lore used to be this mysterious source of fascination, but now I just groan when it's brought up. I'm stoked about all the ONI intrigue, Sangheili politics, Blue Team appearing in a game, Spartan IV stuff... But the direction Forerunner stuff has gone turns me off big time.

Halo lore has gotten so convoluted. Maybe I should just get comfortable with not caring and play the games in lore ignorant bliss.

We've never had anything like that in any of the Halo games (not even in cutscenes) but Spartans are supposed to be like that and they do similar stuff in the books.

This is how I feel. Forerunner stuff is alright, but I don't want it to be the focus. The political/espionage/evil empire stuff interests me so much more. Probably why I am loving HtT.

Count me in that party as well. I'm also a lot more interested in the political happenings of the Halo universe. #Huntthetruth is scratching that itch as well.

It's an onion. The good thing is you can pretend that deep layer doesn't exist and it shouldn't make much of a difference going into the next game (in theory). For those that do like it, they can peel it back and reveal the stinky juices in all its glory.

Wow these are very well done. Love it.

I personally don't mind the forerunner lore but the Promethean knights left a bad taste in my mouth. I just didn't enjoy fighting them as much as elites or brutes. I think its because of how disjointed they (literally) are as an enemy archetype. They could shape shift and teleport but they never actually utilized that power against the chief. As an enemy they just felt 'weak' and focus tested.

Any time I ever fought them all I could think about was this scene from Men in Black:

I mean sure spartans are fast and stuff, but shoulder bashing a banshee? And the way Locke climbed that little tower thing. I feel its just exaggerated to show off the abilities. The ground pound whole explosion thing is what makes me 90% that they did it just for artistic reasons.

I could be wrong, wouldn't really be shocked after hearing Kelly can outrun a warthog.

Man goodluck trying to make the fans understand all of the lore and whats actually going on in Halo 4-6.

I think this is the reason why everyone loved Halo 1 - 3 so much. There were the good guys, the bad guys, and the even badder guys. + Awesome chief. = formula for a good selling story and game.

Alltough the lore is incredibly cool and amazing, most people would get bored out of it, and I think thats why so many people think Halo 4's campaign sucked.

Idk...it's liike....for example...if all the Elderscrolls game's story lines would really go into detail instead of just scratching the surfaces of the lore. If we would have a tes game that follows the overall plot of the TES Universe...man your brains would all be full with fuck....and I think this is where the problem lies, the more complicated it gets, the less people will like the overall story of a game. Most people tend to have i t simple...which is a shame sadly.

Bite me and I bite back.

Oh, him? Nothing big really, he just made a fucking star in the middle of a covenant fleet destroying hundreds of ships and successfully escaped...well like 80% chance that he escaped.

psh. Keyes Loop or bust.

I agree. And I think Josh at 343i acknowledged that was an issue with how they tied it all together in Halo 4's story arc and expanded fiction. The postmortem talk was pretty good and leads me to believe that Halo 5 should be a lot more self-contained with some really juicy stuff for the real lore nerds like me.

It was probably an ability given to them by the Traveler, as it does for all Titans.

Bite me and I bite back.

I just read through it all, and it really does not add to much if you want to follow the basic plot of Halo... Thats what I like about it. I'm not a MASSIVE fan of this plot line, and I do miss the mystery of not knowing anything except the structure. But it really just gives everything a sort of frame, but the painting inside is a whole different beast.

Humanity's greatest hero.

Who nobody has heard of unless you've read the books.

Halo CE, VERY first cutscene in the entire series:

KEYES:
Alright, that's enough. I'm initiating Cole Protocol Article 2. We're abandoning the Autumn. That means you too, Cortana.

CORTANA:

While you do what, go down with the ship?

KEYES:

In a manner of speaking. The object we found, I'm going to try and land the Autumn on it.

CORTANA:

With all due respect Sir, this war has enough dead heroes.

KEYES:

I appreciate your concern, Cortana, but it's not up to me. The Protocol is clear. Destruction or capture of a shipboard AI is absolutely unacceptable, and that's means you're leaving the ship. Lock in a selection of landing zones, upload them to my neural lace, and then sort yourself for a hard transfer.
