Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Sorry to potentially derail the thread as I cannot make one.

I am currently playing Halo 4 on Xbox One and I am enjoying the hell out of it. Why do people dislike this game? The gun play is amazing. Music is top notch and the story so far is good. I'm on chapter 4 and I can't put it down.

Reasons for playing it late relates to my 15 month old son and career changes. I hate that I waited so long. This game is amazing.

Then come over to Community Side and post there.

4 is pretty good, multiplayer was a disappointment

SP was great, MP wasn't

Is that lady in Episode 04 Cobie Smulders?!

At the very, very least, I will say the game made huge strides on both weapons and vehicles, they look and sound much more satisfying

i didn't know what episode 4 referred to. like i said this is the first time i popped into the thread haha. thanks though...i guess i should have went through the tumblr
Yes, watch the series there or on tumblr and all will be answered

I bet the character in question is Buck. Anyone got tabs on where Nathan Fillion's been lately?
He's already been seen around, that seems like way less of a swerve than MB

Yeah, while Buck recording lines would be cool.. Not exactly "Halo lore" aficionado mind blowing.

I'd like to see more Guilty Spark, or Mendicant Bias or maybe the Primordial ;-)

The main villain's motivations seem a tad unreasonable if you haven't dug into the expanded fiction, late game objectives that consist mostly of running from button to button, and the fact that the promethian's were simply not that fun to fight on harder difficulties are the communities primary gripes with the campaign.

That aside, Halo 4 is undoubtedly the best game out of the entire series when it comes to raw kinesthetics, it just feels so good to play. For once every weapon feels and sounds powerful, and the game is a positive joy to play.

Considering the Siege of Madrigal was a Marty/Bungie thing that dates back to Myth, gonna say it probably won't ever pop up in a Halo again.
They usex the track in CE anniversary and linked an achievement to it... and it can't that far fetched to think the may still use it hidden somewhere again.

Yeah but in that instance it makes sense, given that it was hidden in the original game they were remastering.
I guess that depends. In CEA did it play the original track or did they remaster/remake it like they did the rest of the soundtrack? If it was remade then it shows 343 have the rights to it.

Not necessarily - rights can be complicated. Considering the song pre-dates the existence of Halo (and the MS buyout), odds are that at most MS/343i owns the rights to the song as used in that particular software. So they could remake Halo CE a hundred times and use it there, but out of said context they couldn't do a thing with it.

Either way, considering it's history as a Bungie/Marty Easter egg, even if 343i could do it, I don't think they would. It would be like Nintendo including Totaka's Song in a game Kazumi Totaka didn't work on. It would just kinda be wrong of them, ya know?

Keith David? Ron Perlman? Nathan Fillion? I wonder who it could be? Definitely looking forward to it!

Considering all of three of them have been main cast members, I'd say none of them. I love them all (and Ron Perlman/Hood returning would be awesome), but I wouldn't exactly say any of them would be characters that "hardcore Halo lore fans" in specific would lose their minds over. Odds are he's referring to a character like Mendicant Bias who only hardcore fans of the lore would know about.

Heh, wonder what sparked that tweet. :P

The discussion in the replies reminds me of how much I hate what the Forerunner lore has turned into. It manages to be needlessly complicated but also totally uninteresting. I really hope 343 refocuses it into something more appealing.

It's not really that complicated, and there are people that like where it's at.

Like me.

I obviously have things I would see done differently, but overall I'm happy.

I'm thinking of picking up Halo MCC/Halo 5 with an Xbox One sometime this year but one question, is the original Halo 2 soundtrack available as an option with the anniversary graphics in Halo 2 Anniversary campaign?

Nope, no mixing and matching. It's either all Anniversary or all Classic.

Yup, thats a good point. Outside of the Master Chief story, the extended universe doesn't really add much context, as Master Chief doesn't know about whats happening either. So considering were in his footsteps, whatever he learns we will learn too. Also
the Didact got composed!? So what does that mean, he has his own promethean-esque knight body? Again doesn't really make a difference anyways, if he comes back, it will still prove to be a shock to H4 players, and extended universe readers alike.

I thought the Didact was immune to composition. They make a point of that in the H4 terminals.

£200 for halo 5 collectors edition.. fuck straight off.

We don't even know what's in it, and yet people are already pre-ordering it. Boggles the mind.

Depending on how positive their showing at E3 is, I'll either get the regular or the limited edition.

Yeah, that aspect of the lore isn't really my cup of tea, either. I enjoyed the Forerunner novels, but as you said, it was all needlessly complicated. I preferred when they were ancient humans.

I'm so honestly confused about whats in it that could cost £200, I mean Reach was £100 and it had an extremely beautiful well crafted statue, what the fuck does this one contain to be DOUBLE the price?

It cannot be just a statue can it?

collectors edition game plus?? they simply have not said

but OT

Hololens is coming to E3, perhaps we will 'see' Cortana?

Shit. Oh well, not a deal breaker but I do prefer the original soundtrack from what I've heard. Thanks.
Yeah the new soundtrack sound way worse to me. I thought 343i stated that comparing to HCEA they got the real notes for H2A and dont have to recompose them. A lot of tracks just sound wrong, e.g. the scene in new Mombosa where the scarab attacks has totally epic music in original but sounds completely different in anniversary. Also the "Follow" and "Blow me away" tracks got replaced by some weird music that dont really fit.

anyone surprised by the the way this game's narrative seems to be heading? this 'master chief is a traitor' and a seemingly more personal story is a world away from the 'defending the galaxy' norm i was expecting.

They really should have an interesting Halo worth story in the game. I hope we dont spend half the time of the campaign finding out chief is not a traitor (surprise!) and then the game rushes through space settings because they ran out of time for a plot about defeating a big threat.
I just can hope that the whole Locke vs Chief / Traitor campaign is just to not spoil the mainplot of the game.

To me the campaign should be devided in:
  • First 20% to find Chief and what's he on about with Blue Team
  • 60% kicking some alien ass on a trip through the galaxy while discovering the truth whats going on in the galaxy
  • Last 20% defeating the villian, but find out the real big threat it's on its way (like the Mass Effect 1 ending)

We only get a real Halo about every 3 years, spending Halo 5 without doing something big in the Halo Universe would be a shame

There is still the Forerunner threat and Jul 'Mdama who know has access to Forerunner information and tech. Chief's beef with Locke will blow up but we still dont even know the true reason Chief has gone rogue.

I can already see Chiefs Team and Lockes Team fighting together and acting like the "Guardians"

I think thats probably why they had to go in a direction like this. Every Halo game to an extent is about saving the galaxy. This is the 5th numbered Halo, not including Reach, ODST etc. Got to keep it thresh. The huge stakes will be there, but there's now this personal, spartan vs spartan thread which is obviously doing a good job at reminding people they care about Halo - how many 'fuck Locke, Chief all the way!' posts have there been? I'd wager It's working exactly as 343 were hoping for.

I have a feeling the Covenant combat we saw in the Locke trailer isn't going to last throughout the entire campaign. Granted, I don't know that the Covenant will ever truly "die," but I think it'll get to a point where another faction will end up absorbing them, similar to how we saw Elites running around with Promethean weapons in Spartan Ops. I bet you Covenant missions on Sanghelios will last us four, maybe five missions before the real enemy shows up.

I also think it's a pretty smart way to combat (heh) the problem of the Covenant getting dull to fight: rather than completely reinvent the wheel in terms of what the Covenant can do, they totally reworked what the player can do by giving Locke all these new abilities that allow him to approach Covenant encounters in different ways. Rather than breaking up the bunch with a grenade, you can Spartan Charge into them and give off a shockwave that scatters the Covenant group, etc.

My money's on the Guardians name referring to the Bigass Forerunner Bird-thing (BFB).

Yeah, especially since the Didact says "We are Forerunners, Guardians of all that exists." in the Halo 4 Epilogue. Who knows, maybe Humans will take over as the Guardians, just like Forerunners took over from the Precursors.
