Halo 5: Guardians |OT4| You picked a helluva week to join up

Had some fun with the beam rifle in super fiesta yesterday morning. Of course, I played a couple of games this morning and couldn't get a kill with it to save my life lol. I'm literally 2 kills from maxing out my beam rifle commendation and failed on all counts today before work :D

EDIT: Sorry I can't stop watching these - completely OT

The first thing I notice when watching Snip3down's stream compared to lethul's is team communication.

CLG is so much more calm and reserved while EG just has everyone yelling. I'm trying to picture myself playing with EG with those call outs and it's too chaotic.

Also it seems EG (usually Roy or Lunchbox) criticize lots of things they did in the game and I get this feeling like no one is really paying attention, they just let them rant and move onto the next game without taking into account the mistakes they could fix.

I also base this off watching a twitch scrim, so I could be totally wrong and they just practice offline for hours on strategies and adjustments based off their past scrim. I mean, I assume they all watch the scrim as a team and talk it over like an NFL team on a Monday morning.

CLG have SnakeBite who is pretty much team MVP. Every time Royal 2 or Frosty begin to lose it, SnakeBite is like "everyone calm down, focus" etc he's very good with positive reinforcement and after every match he goes through what they could do better.

Helps that CLG members never criticize other members (at least not seriously anyway), also helps that they are all extremely talented.

yep. it's hard to watch a team play when everyone is screaming. like you say, i think the calmer teams have have a better understanding of what each teammate is doing and supposed to be doing. so rotations happen more naturally with less need to scream about everything when teammates go down.

I cringe whenever they switched to the team chat for the tournaments. It just sounds like a bunch of people screaming incomprehensibly over each other, and if I want that I'll unmute the Russians and Peruvians in my Dota 2 games.

Yeah, you don't get anything from a Listen in of 4-5 people yelling at eachother. (5th- coach)

If they did a listen in of the coach or one player at a time, then it would be better imo.

This is what's wierd to me about EG. One would THINK they go over the tapes on "Monday morning" but before each map, they start bickering over who has the better idea for strategy. Then they haphazardly agree on which strategy to take, then end up bickering over who failed to execute.

After the 'Monday morning', they should already have a game plan... Then at game time, they try to execute that gameplan to see if it's succesful or not. if it doesn't work as planned, they would then watch the tape to see if it's a strat issue or execution issue. Why are they trying to come up with strats minutes before the match starts? And why point fingers before looking at the tape. It seems like everytime they fight, they are either misremembering the order of events or aren't even talking about the same events.

Oh joy, xbox live down again. Seems to be down loads this generation. Used to be solid.

Good job they didn't adopt their always connected policy they tried to introduce.

And for some reason the moderators does not allow the above thread to be shown in the thread list...
Its like they don't want people to know the aiming is messed up.

are we still discussing the aiming?

aim acceleration is strange [and i'm still not 100% used to it], but it's not fundamentally broken or anything - if it was, you'd hear more pro [or near-pro] players complaining.

wouldn't you?

This HAS to be a daily reminder because one the biggest complaints about a first person shooter should not be about the aiming.

Relax. Lol I should have put /s at the end instead of :p

It's not the biggest complaint btw. Plenty of other things anyone can harp on about Halo.

Not having fun with a game? The door is not locked.

With the upcoming optional advanced control settings, it sounds like a player should be able to make any kind of adjustments they want. I don't know what else people can ask for at this point. I mean 343 is definitely listening with the fact that they have come out with one update for adjusting the controls already, and another one with even more options is on the way.

For an Beta aiming option, read the thread I posted above and the concurrent videos.
Those adjustments dont fix the fundamental problem of the aiming.

The pro's are all using top of the line controllers (can make finer adjustments) amd seem to actually appreciate the higher aim acceleration, especially coupled with 0% deadzone.

so, based on your posts, said fundamental problem with the aiming is what... the aim acceleration? [designed specifically to cure slow-turn]

and, also based on your posts, this can be nearly fully eliminated just by setting your outer deadzone to 0%?

so where's the issue?

yeah this is kind of what i was hinting at - have not heard anything but slightly positive / favourable comments from the world's most talented Halo playahs.

It's pretty TLDR stuff.

They said the beta aiming is putting the accel to 2. Done.

Some could even say it depends on your latency by comparing your inputs/ reaction time in a custom game versus playing on a more server game.

Shrug. Boat sailed long ago and they are offering more sense options.

Its insane 343 doesn't recognize the problem with the aiming, the community is still complaining about it 6 months later.

This problem needs more awareness.
It's not really an issue for me. I did change the deadzones to 0% because that stuff is bullshit, but it's pretty easy to not max out the stick unless you need to in order to punch someone who ran behind you or something. In fact, I set acceleration to 5 so that it happens as soon as possible after maxing the stick instead of having a weird delay; that way it's a consistent quick turn option. Also, if you can adjust to having general sensitivity at 5 or 6, it makes it so there is less difference between accelerated and not. What still fucks with me is the different sensitivity between vertical and horizontal. I hate it when games do that. Fortunately, they're opening up the option to fix it in the update.

That said, watching some others play and watching theater mode and such, I find there is a fuckton of aim assist even though people said there is significantly less. I don't know how much Halo had before, but I've recently realized that I spend way too much time trying to get fully accurate aim before firing when I could have been (by my standards) ballparking it and letting the game do the rest. I'd advise trusting in that a little more, and just overall trying to better avoid situations where you get flanked that you'd want to max the stick.

My larger issues with the game aren't with aiming but with ridiculously unbalanced matches, with most outside of ranked (which I don't like due to few players and frequent fireteams) or BTB being total steamrolls one way or the other. I've really gotten bored of flipping back and forth between being able to sleep through when my team is good or being burdened to try carrying when my team is total shit. I just want balanced games and have become apathetic about games that aren't. I'm losing interest in Halo overall because the coast-or-crawl thing is killing diversity of experiences in matches.

I play at 3,2,0,0 and it seems fine to me. It was definitely wonky before they added in the advanced settings, though.

A lot of people appear to have very different problems with the aiming. I honestly would not be that surprised if a number of the issues people are having largely comes down to slightly different sensitivity curves and placebo.

The only really definable "issue" is that there is a very short transition between 'aiming' speed and 'looking' speed. If you very slowly increase the displacement of the stick you'll notice a point when you experience a sudden change in acceleration. Personally I don't have a problem with it and I don't think this issue can be used to explain a lot of the issues people are having.

Edit: Didn't notice that someone had already posted about what I'm describing.

Yeah, well I'm saying we shouldn't marginalize the issue based on the opinion of pro players since they are uniquely equipt to manage/benefit from 343i's control choices. Pro's make up a tiny percentage of the playerbase.

That said, the current controller options have allowed me to tune the controls perfectly to my liking. So I'm not sure why Zues is still having trouble.

1. If Halo 5 is only first person shooter you guys have been playing for a substantial amount of time, you may not notice the issue. Go play a few games of Any Halo excluding 3 on MCC, than go back to Halo 5 and you will notice the problem.

2.

"The speed at low-tilt is super slow, definitely slower then the other Halo's and is what I think contributes to the sluggishness. That being said, its slowness makes it feel really unintuitive and if anything more clunky then anything ive ever played on.

The mid-tilt feels pretty normal, nothing very funky goin on there other then being a but slow, but closer to full tilt is where we a see a problem that many other were encountering. Around high-tilt, there's a sudden jump to high speed, which a lot of people mistook for aim acceleration. The default aim settings did have some aim acceleration, but not much at all, the jump in speed being very jerky and wonky for some people, and can really mess you up in close range fights.

Lastly, you'll notice that jump in speed from low-tilt to medium tilt being a very problematic area, where things go from sluggish to to normal. That's the spot around the stick were a lot of people say their aims go spastic, myself included, during mid range fights when the enemy starts to move around.

This is about as detailed as I can go without getting any hard numbers, and is a good comparison to feel yourself. I really hope they do something about it, but they wont."

3. Again, 2 videos of the problem -

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Mythik Nick/video/17167617

The Aim Acceleration and Deadzones options do not fix it, but if it feels good for you great.

And to Samurai G0SU, sure they said for beta aiming put the acceleration on 2. But that is not the only aspect of the aiming they have changed since the beta.

Post from Ghostayame about why the changed the aiming for the worst.

I'm not the only person having trouble!! See the Halo Waypoint thread I posted, and there are complaints on other forums as well.

And its Zeus.

For an Beta aiming option, read the thread I posted above and the concurrent videos.
Those adjustments dont fix the fundamental problem of the aiming.
I went back and watched the video and read through the waypoint thread. I guess I see where you and others are coming from, but it hasn't felt like as much of an issue for me since they added the deadzone options. Cursed Lemon mentioned in his waypoint thread that he could only get most of his kills by shooting people in the back. To me that seems like a massive exaggeration. I think it also comes down to how weapons in Halo 5 are so much more lethal. Most encounters usually come down to who shoots who first, although there is a degree of skill involved in making people miss while also not missing your own shots. That's where using cover and map movement more effectively, and also using thruster evade at optimal moments, really helps out.

Most encounters for me is I shoot a player and then they thrust almost immediately.
