Ultimate point being, I guess, it's awesome that there's a way that 343 can ignore serious balance issues and make hilariously fun weapon REQs for a more social mode. I hope we get more of them integrated in future campaigns (it was really cool to realize that they were hidden around the campaign spaces.)

Finally was able to buy the $20 gold req pack bundle on xbox.com. for the life of me it kept saying i was not eligible to buy it when i tried through halo 5 on my xbox.

I really hope i get these ....

EDIT: Looking at our Current Season CSR ranks.

Appears not many people wanted to place in Arena this season as we sit at 23/100 unranked folks.
4 Silver
14 Gold
29 Platinum

I wonder how many companies have the Achilles helmet now.

I know my play time has decreased lately. Finals are killing me this semester.

I think Crawlers could be made a little more interesting if they played up the chess motifs again - part of the problem is that while the Soldiers are a necessary "street-level" enemy in the Promethean lineup, it more or less makes Crawlers redundant as the "pawn" unit.
There's no real clean-cut solution besides having Soldiers ride Crawlers into battle make Crawlers transform into vehicle modes but I think they could mitigate it to an extent by having the Crawlers actually do something the Soldiers don't. As-is our lineup looks something like:

King: Warden
Queen: ???
Bishop: Watcher
Knight: uh
Rook: Soldiers
Pawn: Crawlers

Every enemy has a very clearly-defined role outside of the Crawlers, which are more or less "attack in numbers doing Soldier stuff except we die in one shot". I think if they made Crawlers focus more on movement (especially now that we're getting vertical look sensitivity options) rather than making them clumps of fairly stationary suppressive-fire units it would make encounters more challenging while still incentivizing killing them. If they actually served a purpose to the other units beyond "fires bullets at not me", it would also make them more of a Watcher-type supplementary unit. Couple ideas for unit variations:

Crawler
Bread-and-butter unit, generally come in packs. Now, instead of firing on sight, they have attack behavior similar to Boos in that they won't fire if you're facing them. As a result, it tends to keep Crawlers constantly scampering in hopes of flanking you (much like pawns can only make kills in a diagonal line) before firing.

Marathon Crawler
Similarly to the concept of pawns being able to bring back pieces once they reach the opponent's side of the board, Marathon Crawlers would note their rank with some super obvious audiovisual cue and make beelines towards fallen enemies of importance (but probably not bosses). Once it makes it to said location (e.g. the resting place of a Knight), the Marathon Crawler derezzes itself to recycle its materials into a revived unit.

Crawler Butler
Crawler Butlers roam the battlefield with a single type of "hardware upgrade", from powerups to weapons. For example, if a Crawler Butler's given upgrade was the Scattershot, it would stay on the move constantly, reach clusters of enemy Soldiers, and then spend a brief time in an animation as it gave all of the Soldiers a Scattershot. If you kill the Crawler Butler, it drops up to 4 (depending on player-controlled characters in game) of that same weapon or powerup. It can summon REQ variants as well, meaning if you're not paying attention it may go and give those six Soldiers a Dying Star each.

Crawler Escort
Crawler Escorts attempt to blend into enemy units, at which point they summon a Hardlight Shield around up to three of its companion units (such as Knights or Soldiers). The Hardlight Shield can be destroyed if it sustains enough damage, at which point it has a brief cooldown before it can be used again. If you kill the Crawler Escort, all the shields automatically disintegrate.

Yeah but you're not getting any potential revenue by doing so and consumers are so short-sighted that they've already forgotten that it exists. Why bring it back up if you have to?

Morally speaking, 343 should fix it. They already should have fixed it. It's easily the worst launch of a console game that has happened in the last 10-ish years, and there should have been wide-spread recalls and refunds because of how absolutely unforgivably non-functional it was and continued to be for 9+ months.

But, economically speaking, they have more to risk by repairing it and reminding people that they're that capable of incompetence than they would by simply leaving it be in its non-playable state, forever in need of a complete overhaul. As consumers, we've completely already let 343 get away with:

Apartment 117
Gameplay altering preorder bonuses
Karen Traviss
"14 Day Try and Play"
Sitting on the Halo 4 Turbo update for over a month so that they could have a PR stream
The Master Chief Collection launch
The absolute botching of the HCS during the MCC because of how non-functional the MCC was
Microtransactions in a $60 retail title
Halo: Nightfall
Delaying the March Update but never replacing it with another content update, meaning that we're only getting 6 updates versus the promised 7 updates, the cost of which was factored into REQ costs and the original $60 value of the title
The Community Cartographers continuing as a concept
Still not fixing the MCC

It's not exactly a big deal when put in context.

Did I accidentally post in a thread from 2012?

Used the Nornfang for the first time during Super Fiesta yesterday. You don't even need teammates at that point.

Haven't gotten that yet. But got Oathsworn, Whispered Truth, Tartarus Gavel etc. Pretty much guaranteed a killing frenzy with those. One SPNKr also gives you like increased speed and jump height that's pretty dangerous as well.

I want to think you're not serious here, but somehow I think you are.

The eastern front was full of trench warfare, just spread over longer lines. Other than the landings and the eventual retreat, the entire Gallipoli campaign was just one of the biggest trench standoffs of the war, outside of Verdun.

If you want something different, like I said, air or sea battles, or perhaps something like German East Africa where actual moving fights took place occasionally. Basically all of the EU and Ottoman fighting was trench warfare, starvation, disease, attrition, etc. You'd have to do specific conflicts in the colonial regions or maybe highlight the spy missions to make something worth playing.

The Montage has been axed huh?

I'm not your slave! (It'll be done when it's done!)

I also have a pair of maps that I want looked at. I can, but right now my friends list only shows two people on Halo 5, one of them being you.

I'm trying to gather EU timezone players for a good 4 hour playtest of some maps from 2000BST tomorrow. Posted a thread over on Forgehub, but if you're around message me.

Sorry for bugging. You just do such an amazing job. I get exciting thinking about it!!

I'll keep my lips sealed.

If 343 intends on hitting 15+ maps by June there's going to have to be the traditional 3+ map pack in the May and June update. It'd be nice to get 3 arena maps at once. We still have a Rig and Coliseum remix pending. So it seems entirely possible.

I haven't sent clips in yet so take your time.

I hope so, I'm hoping early May means like the first week and not midway through. Big releases/beta's coming soon so I'm gonna be super distracted from Halo.

The hype is too real, can't wait to see the incredible plays from fellow HaloGAF peeps :'D

Any don't worry BraXzy, none of my clips made it. They were too pleb or scrub or garbage tier according to a little birdy.

But.. But... When I shoot at dickheads they just take a lot of damage and don't die. :) fml

Don't impulsively fire an uncharged shot if you come under fire in hopes that it'll wipe out the enemy - both of the two shotlets the Incin puts out uncharged have to connect in order for it to be a kill (which Heartseeker exploits and makes just about every uncharged shot a one-hit kill), and more often than not it'll just do splash damage. When charging, wait until the crosshairs fully "lock in", at which point you can release a fully-powered charge shot. It's got a larger blast radius than the standard Rocket Launcher (not sure about SPNKr) - so aim around their feet, rather than trying to aim directly at their feet. The standard Incineration Cannon isn't very good at killing people at a distance if you're training it directly on enemies so that it turns the reticle red - it's really obvious when one's in play and most people can just thrust to evade the blast. Again, the only case where you should ever be waiting for the crosshairs to turn red is if you're using the Heartseeker variant.

Super Fiesta is nice though I was able to finish Hydra commendation. Incineration and SPNKR I just need a few more. Binary and Boltshot are 5/5, but I need a lot more kills with them.

Suppressor and Spartan Laser are still 4/5. If I get the other variants for these weapons it's not bad, but the standard ones are bleh.

I'm getting a bit better at spartan laser but one weapon I still haven't gotten a feel for in super fiesta is the high level binary rifle. Instead of shooting where you aim, it fires two panning beams that start out off to the side then cross paths center. That seems... almost completely pointless? If the enemy hasn't one-shotted me with their own power weapon because it started not-where-I-aimed, they usually survive anyway because it so quickly pans over them that it only damages their shields.

You're supposed to use that one against vehicles, not players. It's an anti-vehicle weapon.

A twin missing its sibling. Advanced Binary Rifle modified with dual beam emitters that enhance the rifle's anti-armor utility.

Well... that's very useful in SF...

Last night I also got the most powerful beam rifle and it is insane. Basically a railgun you don't have to charge, or more accurately the battle rifle version of beam rifles.

I love how many anti-vehicle weapons can appear in Super Fiesta. That should be looked into when the mode cycles back into rotation in the future. Twin Jewels, Echidna, knight blades, etc.

I'm still dumbfounded forge maps haven't been implemented into Arena. The Pit, High Citadel the Orion re-make are all suitable for competitive Arena play. Yet all we have is a poorly designed Pegasus.

Yeah, I brought that up a few pages back. The community is giving you free content and you don't use it. I don't understand it at all. Maybe they are saving it for when they stop with the monthly updates.

It just seems like they're being slow about it. They recently made a call out for community made Infection maps as the next round up of things they're looking for but yeah, you'd think Arena would be high on the list.

CTF on Standoff in BTB, the red teams shotgun doesn't spawn. Which is a pretty damn unfair.

Does 343 not test their maps like at all for MM

I bet it would be a shitshow to the point of it not being fun... But an all reqs unlocked turbo mode would be cool.

Maybe to balance it you could do make it so you only have one of each req. use them wisely.

Pegasus keeps you up at night more than Fatstronauts Mom.
