Halo 5: Guardians |OT5| Is HaloGAF irrelevant now?

Arena's biggest, most obvious things are BTB pistol starts, more gametypes, and a playlist overhaul.

I'd probably structure it like...

-HCS (no radar, competitive maps & gametypes only, visible ranks)
-Casual (radar, all maps & all serious gametypes, so no Fiesta or other silliness, no visible ranks and looser skill matchmaking)
-Ranked Slayer (no radar, slayer-compatible maps, visible ranks)
-Casual Slayer (radar, slayer maps, no visible ranks and looser matchmaking)
-Ranked Objective (radar, objective maps, visible ranks)
-Casual Objective (radar, objective maps, no visible ranks, looser matchmaking)
-BTB (radar, all maps & all serious gametypes, no visible ranks but decently tight MM)
-BTB Slayer (radar, etc. etc.)
-BTB Objective (radar, etc. etc.)
-Action Sack (assorted silly gametypes)
-Weekly rotating (one gametype, all workable maps, double XP Fri-Sat-Sun, maybe ranks? Just for bragging rights.)

So you'd have pretty much all relevant options represented in 11 playlists. They can make Breakout one of the rotating ones idc. 343, I love you guys, but it's just not working out.

For Warzone, it's mostly about introducing more variety. Semi-randomized waves, more stuff to do during said waves... looking at ME3's progression on that front is a good idea, having stuff like escort missions and special capture points. Easier to implement in Firefight, of course, but there's some potential there in regular WZ.

That's way too redundant. Half of those audiences have no cross-over. No one is going to play casual, unranked objective. By definition objective gametypes require more cohesion. The BTB split is also way too much as well, and honestly the BTB playlist is in the best shape it's been recent franchise history at the moment after this last map overhaul. There are maybe three maps that don't play amazingly well.

Social Slayer is really the only new playlist we need. From there you can head into Warzone Assault or BTB. Otherwise, take it to the incoming server browser.

I was shooting more for comprehensive; the whole point of having separate playlists is to cater to different audiences. And casual objective is fine, sometimes you just wanna run some flags.

If I had to pick one of those to kill, yeah, it'd be extra BTB lists. Maybe replace one with a second rotational, that way you could have one silly and one serious.

Also, fuck slayer. Worst gametype. Actually would axe its playlists entirely if it was up to me honestly. Halo is 110% better w/ objectives.

Halo 6 wishlist.

-Bigger FoV
---Combined with clean audio, could fix some of the annoyances many have with radar-free gameplay modes
-Classic scope visuals, or at least the option
-Finer aim sensitivity adjustment

-Projectile weapons
---With clear impact indication to ensure that it feels responsive
-Reach grenade launcher
-Streamline the sandbox, eliminating redundancy, focus on smaller number of weapons with more distinction
-Reach grenade launcher
-All weapons should have clearly different visual profiles

-Prioritize clean soundscape and distinction over punchiness
-Flesh out environments with strong audio ambiances that aren't necessarily physically sensible
---When relevant, pleasing loops, "natural leitmotifs"

-Less macro-detail. Focus on elegant big shapes, give them life with rich and clean micro-detail.
---If a particular sort of macro-detail looks sketchy, remove it. Find a simpler way to flesh-out the scene, or just let it enjoy being barren-ish.
-Raw neutral white balance, bold 2/3/4-color schemes created through light and textures.
-Generally make things look more friendly and pleasant. Not every rock and blade of grass needs to be dramatically fierce.
-Clear color-based enemy distinguishment.
-Classic elite and grunt designs.
---Curlback grunts.

-Devote more horsepower to getting dynamic effects like explosions to look "deep."
-Reduce apparent banding on specular reflections. Halo 5 is TERRIBLE in this regard. If adding noise to specular radiance is needed, do it.
-Deal with the hazy rim lighting. If indirect specular can't be improved, then weaken it; better to have missing light than actively wrong light.
-Improve spot light sources: no more bizarre or missing headlights, bring flashlight back into campaign.
-Make sure dynamic water ripples always settle smoothly, never popping away along an obvious boundary.

-Reach grenade launcher

Youd be better off trying to join the main halogaf company.

Just send the request, and mention your Gaf name in the request. If our overlords deem you worthy, theyll get you in.

I mean it says that it is the official one: Welcome to the official home of NeoGAF, Spartan.

This is an exclusive unit open only to NeoGAF members and is European timezone only (GMT) due to the 100 member cap it's a first come first served basis.

Unless you mean HaloGAF, i'm onto it :)

Yeah i mean halogaf. When the game launched, there was a need for multiple Companies. But we've since had to consolodate.

His list IS too redundant, but we DEFINITELY need an objective playlist that isn't tied to HCS, in addition to a social slayer playlist.
Too many gametypes are missing from MM. People LOVED assualt, even though it isn't competitively viable. Same with Tyrant ctf. Same with Mercy. Even strongholds on overgrowth and riptide. I'd prefer it be ranked, but having more objective options than the 7 currently provided to us is long overdue, either way.

Your link sucks.

Also, #ForTheCompany?

Like, el oh fuckin' el

Yeah, I would ban you for that, too.

I mean, the scaler for resolution is pretty dynamic right? At the very least I'd imagine you get an OOTB resolution boost in campaign and multiplayer.

As for the maps, I don't think I've ever played Molten outside of customs. What playlists is it in?

Resolution: Native 4k would be nice.

Molten is in Slayer, played it a couple times last night, same goes for Riptide. What's especially bad about playing those maps is losing out on good maps. I didn't play on Coliseum or Plaza once.

I dunno if Scorpio will allow for 2160p60 at Halo 5's visual fidelity. I also don't think Halo 5 is designed to scale higher than 1080p as is currently designed (I imagine it wouldn't given 1080p60 is the ideal target.)

Nade spam in H5 is so jarring.

One thing I loved about H4 was that you only got nades on their spawns

You can still only carry two of each for a max of six, so compared to Halo 1 and 2 it's hardly that spammy.

The downside of having three types instead of two is I definitely toss fail grenades constantly because I'm not paying too much attention to what I have selected and thus not modifying my aim.

Naw, 4 basically took a baseball bat to the "golden triangle," and disadvantaged players for not dying.

But yeah, sometimes it does feel pretty spammy in 5. I think it's probably because nades are really powerful, and you can get really fucked really fast once you're out of thrust.

Is the Scorpio going to be below a 980ti? I get 60fps @ 4K on Halo 5: Forge.

Nades spam feels so heavy in h5 because of grenade hit markets.

Throw a random nade to see if someone is around the corner. If you get a hit marker throw another. Rinse repeat.

yuuuuuuup. People always acted like it was no big deal when I and others have argued about it before release, but it's always the result. If you know get that information that someone is there you will either run in and finish them off or toss more grenades.

I miss the days in Halo 2 and 3 where someone would toss a random nade around the corner and it would take your shields down and they wouldn't know to come running at you. It's like they had to use their brain and take risks before taking a reward.

Lol, holy crap

lol wow what a clip xD

Hire Exwife, 343. He is Halogaf's champion.

You killed Colorado116, how dare you!?

yo that was awesome!

Such reactions, very wow.

When you saw the clusterluck medal, were you blinded by its majesty?

I am one of HaloGAF's most treasured instruments... Long have I led the Red Team with honor and distinction. But my... inability to safeguard the flag... was a colossal failure.

Aggressive Expansion seems easier in BTB.

Of course it's still lucky. BTB Strongholds is not as frequent, your good team vs. a bad team, then capping all 3 at the very start.

We've played on Altar enough to know that this isn't the case.

This has been my experience as well. Technically, you're capturing more strongholds per game in an average Arena match, but your chances of surviving through 3 of those caps is much more slim. Ghosts and other vehicles also make it easier. Just jump into the stronghold right before the cap is finished and boost across the map to the next one.

EDIT: Also, you don't have to capture all three, just get three in a row. Retaking lost strongholds counts. Total Control's count towards a different commendation.

I have no idea what he was doing.

Well fuck me, that's good to know. That should make it much easier.

Yeah, you just need to get three *CAPTURES* in a single life. This means you need to be in the stronghold on the moment it is captured. If you aren't in the stronghold at that exact second it doesn't count. Capture assists don't count and defenses don't count.

Guys.. GUYS.. I just started a LFG session with the tag/description of "Vote CE in TS" for TMCC and someone joined. Let's see how this goes.

EDIT: Some party issues, but found a match quickly. 3 votes for Rat Race, NICE! ...........4 votes for Halo 3 Team BRs Boundless..................

Any way to cheese immortal medals?
The only commendation I'm going to struggle with, everything else is done or close to it

Action Sack

Hope to face a bad team in things like Tank World, Paintball, and Mantis Breakout.

Speaking of that, anyone want to grind immortals?

That Warzone REQ pack is confirmed apparently, I mean we could easily assume but its nice to see confirmation.

Ske7ch is doing a good job!

Since you told me this I got 2 in one BTB game. I thought it had to be each of the 3 zones in one life. lol

Any tips for Against All Odds? I swear that seems broke for the Action Sack games. I've won some 1v3's in Paintball and Tank World and it didn't count.

I have better luck in Tank World, but it's more boring. Paintball is a tossup, no idea what's with the medals there (though immortals seem to work more often than not if you still need that). Mantis Breakout I've gotten a few 'fectas as well, just trickier.

I think part of it is it sometimes won't count unless you get at least one kill during that round, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, it might be easier in actual Breakout. 1v2 can be possible more often with shotty and some luck. Immortals are definitely for Action Sack, though.

Now I just wish BTB Strongholds was more frequent. I've been playing BTB practically all day and I've gotten 2 Stronghold games.
