There's a plethora of customization.

there isn't, you can't even turn off acceleration, which is honestly a joke in a modern shooter.
also it has axial acceleration on by default, which shouldn't even be a thing to begin with.

then there is the absolutely shit reaction curve which can't be altered and the super slow max turn speed

I played it on PC using these settings:

and it's so much better, but aim assist it off if you use this as it emulates a mouse on the right stick

I can't say it enough but that horrible outlines stuff needs to go away. I don't mean the outlines when you're aiming on a friend or foe but the fact you can see the ENTIRE outline of your friend through the map, it sucks hardcore...what is this?

It is I had to make some adjustments in the accessories app and in game but found a setting that feels just right for me.

the issue is not only the "feel" but the utility.
for example, the repulsor, you can do a super high jump with it if you jump, look down and use it.
now try doing that on Controller, where the max turn speed is so slow you will have to start moving your aim down about a full second before using it.

this means on controller you can't really use a key function of that item in any heated moment, because it's simply way too slow.

the next issue is that you can't turn off aim acceleration, something NO GAME SHOULD EVER HAVE, neither can you change the sensitivity curve.

the thing is, in terms of options and feel Halo Infinite is about 8 to 10 years behind the best games in the genre.

Hmm MCC seems to have more customization. I play on KB/M, which is divine, but I understand how that's not convenient for a console player. I just assumed it had MCC levels of customization.

I was sincerely surprised with the customization options but man it feels rigid AF.

I am talking from experience for what it's worth.

For scanning the environment I'd like my sens at 5 or 6 but aiming (especially CQ) feels better a 2 and yeah

Acc at 0.1 or whatever the lowest

There's no gradual fluidity I feel

It's like a either or type of

it does have MCC levels of customisation, even more than the MCC, but that's still a full generation behind most shooters.

Titanfall 1 had better aiming than Infinite

the MCC also has no real reaction curve options, and you also can't turn off Acceleration in the MCC.
I think the max turn speed is higher but that's about all it does better than Infinite.

the point is, the aiming on contoller in Infinite is a full generation behind the competition, it's basically unusable with the standard settings (which just shows how incompetent the people responsible for it are) and even with the best settings possible (axial acceleration on lowest setting + turn acceleration on max setting + max sensitivity) it still feels worse than if you play Titanfall 1 without tinkering in the options whatsoever.
and it is worth mentioning that since Titanfall 1 launched, other games like Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, Warframe, Splitgate or even H1Z1(PS4) are even better than TF1 in this department.

so it reall is inexcusable to have the controller aiming be the way it is. it's like noone at that team knows a flying fuck about the shooter scene on controller

hell, even Fortnite has better aiming and more options since like 10 seasons ago

some guy on Reddit made a better stick aiming settings by emulating a mouse in the steam settings, and that in less than half an hour.

it's simply a joke to still see AAA shooter developers that are so far behind the times.

a way worse example than even Infinite recently was Deathloop which is barely playable on controller it's so terrible.

and Deathloop is also why you can't take anyone online seriously when it comes to this, since there are of course many people that will tell you that it has absolutely perfect controller aiming, when it almost could not be worse if they tried

Doesn't bother me any, but sure. It's likely the settings will be there at launch considering the uproar. If not, then Season 2.

Let's wait what they do with feedback.

Tiranfall 2 best aiming I've experienced on console

I'm playing with 2.0 sens atm lol

Been unwell today, just played 5 games though. First time playing (using Series S). Game plays well. BTB usually does nothing for me though, I prefer precision slayer where you start with the BR. I’m impressed though.

BTB map is to big for an AR start with that pistol. Needs either a BR start or a H5 style pistol.

I would like a bit more aim assist. I can get used to this and do fine, but H5 does feel much better going back and forth

imagine if the devs said that when people give them feedback. "It is like your opinion since it is just subjective."

Imagine developers take subtle personal feedback as if it's worth something

?????

Also I wasn't talking about a devs pov

?

So what are you're really trying to say?

luckily there's BRs and Commandos and so on galore near where you spawn usually

Looks great. Needs more aim assist.

i play Bumper Jumper as you need to be able to turn and jump at the same time.

Unfortunately, this leaves the pick ups on the X button, and that’s awkward as hell for the grapple. 🙁

That's why you get the elite controller 🧠

But yea I feel ya man. Even with the elite controller, I have a hard time finding a good controller layout with bumper jumper, even though it's obviously the one control scheme to rule them all.

Infinite BTB CTF is absolutely amazing.
Been waiting for a Halo BTB CTF of this caliber since Halo 3.
First off - the map is fantastic. Really shows 343 map design turning the corner here with Fragmentation and Behemoth.

Love that the flag base changes per cap - though the capture point stays at the top center of the base. Such a cool idea to mix it up.
The interesting power weapons hackable door side mission. The forerunner interiors mixed with forested outdoor sections.
So many power weapon areas - its not going to be a fight over just the middle of the map anymore like old school Valhalla laser spawn.

So many places to be sneaky on offense (like the behind base covered cave circle) - in combination with the threat sensor to combat base defender campers. Speaking of being sneaky - with the new sound design - people who spam sprint make tons of noise, beyond just radar - listening and being silent is key .
Warthogs are once again a major threat and key to capping.

Pistol + AR start is perfect - they better not change it to BR starts - that essentially gives everyone fast firing sniper rifles. The BR BTB start was a main problem with Halo 5's BTB. Infinite has plenty of BR spawns around if you want one. The narrow corridors combined with open areas give you plenty of place to find cover - BR starts not essential.

I also loved how BTB slayer doesnt drag on for 30 minutes like past games - its over in 10 minutes average. Timer in BTB CTF could be extended a bit though.

Overall love the BTB here. Bravo 343.

Yeah, I really enjoyed BTB tonight. MP is shaping up to be something special.

But, I was disappointed getting dumped in to a couple of games that were hosted on US servers. Come on 343. I have nothing against playing with my NA cousins, I just don’t want to play in matches hosted there.

You don't like time travelling where you're 1 second in the past? =P

Really liked what I played so far on PC, BTB slayer & CTF. Looks and runs great. Feels good. Bit of a crashing problem with my son's AMD 6900xt though. Not sure if that's a Thing or not, maybe it's just his specific setup.

inb4 game launches with no connection preferences again and it takes 343 more than 12 months to finally add them.

First experience with Halo infinite, controller aim is difficult people are right

especially with the way Spartan difficult AI can Strafe, how the fuck can u keep up? Switched to Mouse and keyboard; much better

getting a lot of audio issues tho, lots of stuttering in game. No issues in the menu tho. Posted a ticket letting them know

Aim feel is inherently subjective tho

Not really though. Halo 5 had velocity jumps. Not just velocity jumps, but big ones. I suspect HI has the same thing. Very few humans on earth can develop the muscle memory to cope with that. That's not subjective, it's objectively bad.

This is what ObsIV (XIM creator) had to say about H5 and I bet it's the same issue with HI:

I've been seeing posts about "problematic controllers" and "deadzones" as being the problem with Halo 5's aiming system. That's not it.

343i, I'll make it easy for you. Look at the picture below. Here is a partial map of the stick positions where you jump in turn velocity by 2.34x. For example, if you are aiming at someone and you happen to be at 32336,0 and you accidentally nudge the stick to 32337,0 then your reticle will suddenly jump by over 2 times the speed you were just turning at. Even worse, it'll accelerate to that 2.34x speed over ~1 second. Unless you have incredible muscle memory, how could any gamer reliably know where that point is?

The fix is:

  1. Keep your dead-zone and positional acceleration curves
  2. Remove the velocity jump
  3. Remove the time-based acceleration at maximum
  4. Increase maximum horizontal turn speed by at least 3x (make sensitivity knob go up to 30)
The Halo community (XIM and controller gamers alike) have been talking about Halo 5's surprise changes to how it aims. XIM's Smart Translator system gives us an insight into how every game developer designs their aiming systems. I can tell you after studying the data that 343 has done a great disservice to the Halo community.

343 changed Halo aim by splitting the stick into 2 separate regions: aim and turn. They also chose this point seeming arbitrarily as well before maximum stick deflection. Meaning, any player that accidentally goes beyond this point (such as during the heat of a fire fight) will find their reticle jump. The speed gap between "aim" and "turn" is very large. Instead of moving towards a good example of an aiming system (i.e. CoD and BF), they went completely the other way.

Controller users hate it too. Why they would optimize for the .0001% is beyond me. It has to be the dumbest decision that 343 has made.

Just got my Xbox Series X today and tried Halo Infinite. I cranked my sensitivity to 10 and it's sssooooo slow. Also, aiming seems so bugged. Not sure wtf is going on with it. Really gave me seconds thoughts about getting a Series X.

Finally fired this up on my Series x…

I’m so underwhelmed graphically. And I wasnt expecting much in the first place.

It looks like an hd remake of a 10 year old game.

what's going on is that 343i slept for a whole generation, and noone there seems to have ever played a shooter on controller, hence the controls are dogshit.

you can play mouse and keyboard tho, even on console. and I would suggest anyone who can to do that until they patch the controls... if they ever will, because their track record isn't the best

The max sensitivity is my only gripe so far. 10 in this is like a 6 in the older games.

I tried Mouse and Keyboard, guess what..it's bugged. You can't look around fully it's almost like there is some weird barrier. Not sure if you've tried it out but it's impossible to play MKB because of the bug.
