Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Talking about the Didact...

What makes him worse than the Flood again? If I'm not mistaken, he lost to the Flood. Well... The Forerunners lost to the Flood (I count effectively blowing everything up as losing), and considering he's Forerunner... hmmm.

That's one of the big problems I've had with the story side of Halo 4's new arc. It's been hyped up as "Ermahgerd Derdac!" but there's no actual explanation as to what makes him so evil. I'm just not seeing it.

No it hasn't. The marketing has actually been very passive about the Didact. I'm thinking he's a bait-and-switch for the real enemy.

Perhaps it's not clear cut evil at the beginning of the trilogy. The thing about the Didact is that he is very passionate about forerunner supremacy.

I think, that his overriding goal in the forthcoming trilogy could be to ensure that the supremacy begins/or continues again, at all costs.

Could someone modify my avatar to have the Didact symbol behind Pikachu, still retaining all transparencies. Wait hold on, lemme find the original without the 2.

Quoted for new page. Here is the original Avy:

In pretty much every trailer ("An ancient evil awakens"... hardly passive), CEA's terminals by 343GS and in Thursday War there are numerous references claiming how much he hates humans and how badass he is...

Seems to have come out of nowhere.

Just finished my ultimate Halo replay. Spent the last few months working my way through Halo: CEA, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars, ODST and Reach.

I have to say, I miss the master chief, and look forward to jumping back into his story again.

Out of nowhere? He was never a fan of humanity. The Forerunner trilogy greatly expounded upon that, yes, but even in the Terminals he couldn't see what was so worthwhile about humanity that the Librarian would sacrifice herself to save them from the Halo Array.

Just a quick question, is the Spartan Ops thing behind a Season Pass for Halo 4 or is the just coming along with it for everyone?

First season is free.
It is assumed that subsequent seasons will need to be purchased.
The Season Pass is for War Games maps.

I have a request. Can anyone take my avatar and make it something like this with the Didact symbol?
Genius idea, I love it!

At least the first season is on-disc and free. Beyond that it'll prolly be DLC, but it doesn't seem to be covered by the season pass (most likely because they aren't sure if they'll do another season).
I'm not so sure that Spartan Ops is on disc.
I'm pretty positive that 343i said you need to download it every week, that is why it requires Xbox Live Gold.

If someone wants to do it to my avatar, I'll love you long time :)

Ah thanks both. More co-op is awesome for me, so I will be getting it. Looking forward to jumping in with HaloGAF for some co-op.

I thought Dave Ellis said they were still working on finishing all the cg episodes for the 10 weeks of SOps content, which would seem to mean the entire first season is free DLC.

To have it all on disc and require a gold live account...

Halo CEA Terminals clearly imply the Didact is still alive and at large, and that he might not like us... but based on the Forerunner Trilogy, he doesn't sound like he'd be an enemy, ancient evil. Definetly not "ancient evil".
I've had a feeling myself it will be a bait-and-switch. I reckon i won't be surprised either way, for i'm prepared for either one.

EDIT and it is pretty clear SPOPS is not on disc, they've stated they're still working on it, despite Halo 4 being gold already.

I know that he was never a fan of humanity. Hell, he's the (Crptum/Primordium spoilers... can't remember which)
reason ancient humans lost in the Forerunner War in the first place isn't it?

Apparently he's like super, super evil though... and that hasn't been expanded upon at all. I mean, 343GS compared him to the god damn Flood in the CEA terminals. The Flood. The thing that caused the Forerunner to blow everything up and run away.

I guess I'm not seeing the sudden hatred that he apparently has that makes him comparable to the Flood and/or why he'd make it his mission to attack us again... especially after Primordium / Cryptum (But I guess we can't know that until Halo 4 / Primordium sequel).

I'm not convinced that "an ancient evil awakens" is referring to the Didact. If you read Cryptum and Primordium, anybody would probably agree that he isn't "evil" in the black-and-white terms the sentence implies. I mean, he's ancient in relative terms, but in comparison to something like the Timeless One? Not so much (though I'm not saying it is the last Precursor). Someone said that his problems with humanity are more political than sentiment, and I'd say that's an accurate assessment.

In comparison to what 343 could be doing – showing gameplay trailers of him in action, dedicating entire trailers to expanding his story and introducing him to the audience – we're getting very little; only his symbol. In fact, the only time we've seen the Didact in any form other than his symbol was the trailer released recently in which he is holding the Chief hostage, but that doesn't show the full context. We don't know why he's holding the Chief hostage.

Of course, I could just be seeing what I want to see.

...

The Didact symbol is a lovely avatar theme for Halo 4. Looks great!

Haha, that's pretty cool what you guys are doing with your avatars.

That's interesting, and it's making me wish I had read more books so I could figure out why you think that...

10 days left for me. Then I'm out of this thread until the 6th.

Why even bother telling us, nobody cares. If you're gonna go dark, fucking just go dark.
