What if it was even MORE like CoD and you could forego your first three ordinance choices in order to build up to a higher tier of more powerful ordinance?

And if they were static, would you guys prefer that over the system we have now?

Mac Cannon online.

Or, wait, what if after 10 kills you could call in a team of Spartans to kill everyone?

My initial reflexive response when discussing the new ordnance systems is "Nuke them from orbit," as I really don't think they work in Halo at all. I kind of have to struggle to be more construcive.

So for me it's basically a continuum with fixed weapon spawns on one end and what we have now on the other (I try not to entertain things getting even worse). Things like fixed sequential ordnance call downs or load out-type choices in them or the ideas you suggest fall somewhere in the middle. Differen flavors and degrees of bad. But I'd really just rather have fixed ordnance back.

It would be interesting to see how customized personal ordnance would work out. A sequental set of ordnance as you suggested, or even custom choices. Say, pick the three personal ordnance items at the start of the match, or as part of your load out screen. Then only those three would come down and you picked one as we do now. That way you were not confined to one weapon or ability that might not fit with the situation you're in. But it would keep the heavy mix of ordnance in the Infinity mode while adding a strategic element rather than dice rolls to the mix.

It would still be too much carnage and heavy ordnance for my preferences, but it would be an improvement and reduce the element of chance in the game.

Fixed weapon spawns would really go a long ways in other modes. That, some BTB objectives and flinch dying a painful death would probably get me back into the game.
That's pretty much the COD system for killstreaks right? Only the more powerful ones require more kills to unlock.

A lot has been said here about the game, but there are two things that I consider "broken".

* Instant respawns that allow the enemy you just killed to get revenge before your shields can even recharge.
* Providing an incinerator cannon to player A while player B gets a needler. Same with global ordnance when one side of the map gets an uber weapon and the other side gets something weak.

Both of these things make the game more dynamic, but sacrifice fairness. I think the systems there are interesting, but need some refinement.

If I was 343, I'd put changes into effect, test them internally, and then re-launch early next year with a nice big title update, all community features online and fully detailed, and coincide that with one of the map packs. Part of me thinks that's exactly what they have planned. Just a feeling though.

I just meant it could be a predictable system like this:

Minor Ordinance:
Needler or Concussion Rifle or Speed Boost

Moderate Ordinance:
Railgun or Gravity Hammer or Damage Boost

Major Ordinance:
Spartan Laser or Rocket Launcher or Overshield

Would you guys prefer that over the random system we have now?

I'm relying on you guys for the comparisons, as I've never played Call of Duty (outside of a demo of one of them, for like, 10 minutes). All I can really do is talk about how Halo 4's systems relate to the ones from earlier in the series.

Though as discussion goes on I seem to grog onto a longer and longer list of things Halo 4 picked up from CoD.

Seriously, everyone just wants to play Shatter (the worst map) because they can get all these stupid achievements on there.

In terms of predictability is doesn't help much. It's still so... messy compared to the simplicity of previous Halos. Also, Damage Boost > Overshield.

Love that quote, but its the only part of the post that didn't fit.

AAs may be unbalanced but they don't decide encounters. Not to where you have to equip X to survive or have a chance.
Agreed, but they heavily influence them.

They're adding something new to the battlefield that the player may or may not predict. If the player doesn't know all of the variables, it's hard for them to make choices. And it's a lot more frustrating when you lose to something you didn't know was coming.

Also to note, I love the abilities, equipment, and personal ordnance in a PvE setting like Campaign, Firefight, or Spartan Ops.

And another random note, ever since ODST allied AI hasn't been able to shoot farther than the enemy AI. Is there a reason for this, because it makes certain encounters really frustrating.

what? this is stupid, next thing you say is that people should start on even feet without different armor abilties at spawn.

heresy.

I miss this

If instead of adding scorecount needed to unlock, your first personal ordnance was minor, the second moderate, the third major you mean? I think that'd be fair, but you'd have to extend the system to Nth ordnance, or I guess just have it flip.

That seems to be core to Halo 4 though, so I think that cat's already out of the bag. There are still issues of fairness though that I think they could improve.

But if you're talking pro playlists anything that makes the game more pure and competitive seems the right way to go.

Slayer Pro already dead.

Fucking infuriating.
They somehow managed to create a hardcore playlist that was even less appealing to the hardcore than Arena. No wonder it's gone.

A month after launch and it's barely beating Arena's numbers at the end of Reach's life.

As a side note, both FFA Throwback and Team Snipers appear on the Waypoint Playlist page, wonder what that's all about.

You are no far from comparing Halo with COD

They could easily do a Mac cannon, orbital attacks, summon a gauss warthog and a bombardier killstreaks but....yeah just a random care package killstreak.

Oh my bad. Yeah, for competitive and hopefully all future games. When I had personal ordnance in my semi-competitive settings, it was DMR/SAW/Speed Boost. Always set to that. I considered those to be more mid-tier power weapons, but for general MM the DMR is a starting weapon, so I don't know what would take its place. IMO, it should be a set constant.

So, about to play for my second time. Which primary do you guys think is best? The DMR, AR, or BR? I've been rolling with the DMR, but I'm not sure.

DMR or Lightrifle for large open maps
BR or Carbine for midsize maps
AR for small maps or games like KOTH or CTF defense
Suppressor and Storm Rifle aren't bad either but I find AR to be the best automatic weapon.

Yep, there are more problems with global ordnance than simply map control being thrown out the window. In Halo 4, when playing a match of Dominion, I literally have no idea if ordnance is going to spawn anything from a DMR to an Incineration Cannon. Not only that - but now I have absolutely no way of knowing how many of each power weapon are on the map at any given time.

To me, this is the bigger problem as global ordnance has resulted in a greater number of power weapons on the map overall. This slight change has ended up affecting vehicle gameplay and to a lesser extent the offense/defense gameplay in objective modes.

Yeah GTAV will definitely be top spot for a while. GTAIV sold 20mil+, GTAV should be even bigger. We always talk about Halo getting bigger than COD and all that here but GTA IS bigger than COD.

It's a tribute to what MW2 stood for that it's still in the top 10 after coming out in 2009. That game was the definitive COD.

It's sad that there's four COD's in the top 10, but Reach has fallen to 16th and H3 off the chart entirely. What does that say about the direction of the two franchises?

The SAW, goddamn. That's one weapon I'm surprised doesn't get more rage pointed at it. I feel like a God every time I equip one, and if we're in close quarters, very, very bad things are going to happen. I love it.

But... you get out of close quarters and even with pulsing your fire, it's next to useless. And you can only imagine the look on somebody's face when you beat a SAW player with an AR or pistol up close.

DMR is the best gun. Period.
Does the BR or Carbine cause more flinch when hit by em? I know I always freak out a little more when hit by those weapons, so maybe there's something to be said about psychological benefits ;P

Shatter is hardly the worst map. Shatter is good, Harvest is just as nice (simple layouts are always appealing), Wreckage is absolute hot, smelly, 2am Taco Bell diarrhea. The map screams camo, PV, and Boltshot abuse (the damage range on that thing is absurd), close quarters with ridiculous amount of hiding spots, and one side of the map is blinding when you look in that direction (which you have to on a regular basis. I'm sure there's more, but I've been quitting out whenever that map is chosen by the unwashed majority. Wreckage is right up there with The Cage as one of the worst maps to ever disgrace the Halo franchise.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who shares this sentiment. I've been hearing it get a lot of praise on here but I don't understand why.

Admittedly, all I've played on it so far is CTF, and it may likely just be bad in that mode (Flags placed on map spanning sight line corridors)
