Place was a mess from the get-go. Its now a very insular group of hand-wringing. You don't have to love Halo to make an OT, but you should at least understand that the term "community" means more than just you and your friends and lols at everybody else. Halo is much bigger than you guys and your specific wants.

Old OP's were nice. I especially liked the artwork but thats about it. Actually, an actual OP would be helpful since I want to know which specialization does what since the damn game won't tell you.

But to be fair, no one reads the OP.

One of the banners was the kyleJ handjob comment with the HaloGAF logo across it. To me, that was the best one. Best exemplified that yeah we all like Halo, but we're a COMMUNITY with our own culture and stuff.

I think this OP is similar to that.

There are many other people willing to put in some effort to at least link previous threads and add news.

This is pretty much a masturbatory effort.

kyle's a jerk but he makes amusing OTs. I think we can let the Wiki page OP slide for a thread, and I wouldn't be offended if kyle posted a condemnation I wrote on him unless I had changed my mind or said something inappropriate and apologized.

What should have happened is the original OP start out with the original "game stinks" and then later be edited to have relevant info and not Zelda/random shit on it. That way you get the joke out for some of the people who will laugh and be cool with the people who actually want info in the OP.

Both sides win.....and the the thread later becomes a "I hate you all/the game/life" thread like always.

I thought it was funny when it was first posted. And in the end, it's just a thread. HaloGAF is a group of people, give us a thread to post in, we post in it. The content of the OP at this stage in the game (260,000 posts later....) is pretty secondary, I think. We just need a place to post. Though the kind words about my OT's warms my heart. I put a lot of love into them back in the day. <3

Personally, I think the random call out of posters added to the OP is a bit mean. Just because you have a soapbox doesn't mean you have to use it that way. But it ain't my thread. kylej gonna kylej; if anyone really objects to it, PM a mod. They are generally very fair and responsive when issues are raised.

Otherwise I say we just do what we can to raise the level of discourse in whatever thread we choose to call home. (And probably end the meta discussion at some point as well, though I think a certain amount of it is healthy for a community when we reach points such as this.)

Do you think they will they be sticking to Halo 4 base or making huge Reach OT like changes?

I am hoping they will be able to enforce 3 second respawns and fix the pacing.

I mean, ultimately that's the thing, it's not so much where the community was heading as it was a reflection on where the series currently stands. This is effectively the HaloGAF™ Support Group now, and it's not like anyone's starved for a "legit" thread, as the one for Halo 4's right beside this.

Don't see what the OP has to do with anything. You see the post once the day it was created and then never again in all likelihood. Anyway, since its a general Halo thread and not specific to any game I'm not sure what should be there instead.

(At Least) the OP can take responsibility over adding new relevant info. that Any GAFfer can appreciate to lurk or post regularly making the experience welcoming. But I do not fully expect this. I do enjoy Kyles posts.

No need to add salt towards him. Pretty pointless, imo.

To be more clear, I wasn't criticizing you guys for making post after post. I was just saying that I don't have it in me to keep it up. Those people that do are simply more invested in the franchise than I am anymore and that's unfortunate. I used to be one of the biggest superfans around, but alas, no more.

I'm pretty sure the sports threads (or one of them, at least) were temporarily locked for that behavior. As mostly an outsider of the community I generally don't mind the inside jokes in an OP, but there isn't even much about the community itself in this one.

Not that I don't respect kylej's opinions, under the sarcasm he often has some of the most well thought out ideas on the gameplay, I just don't think it's appropriate for the community thread OP.

That game was fun to play, not to watch (sorry). Like most games on Adrift in my experience.
