Why bother making another Halo when we still have Halo 1 and Halo 2 on PC? Those are the real halo experiences, any other dev taking up the task would just be different, just like what we're seeing with 343. There's no reason to stagnate on iterating that when you can innovate in an entirely different direction.
The poster child of absolutely fantastic dev/community relations at the moment are the guys behind Natural Selection 2. The original game was a mod many years ago and has now been made into an extremely successful retail game, and the best part: most of the content in the game is made by the community that plays it, and it's open source
Then there's SOE, making what must be the only AAA game that isn't sequel bait, Planetside 2, and it's designed as a LTE game to run and evolve into wholly new experiences over many, many years. Most of the core gameplay was playtested and redesigned several times over the course of a several month long beta, and the game is no where close to being done now that it's been "released." It's everything I've ever wanted in a game (basically all the cool shit that happens in the Halo universe, but actually player directed and controlled), and it's completely player controlled. SOE is just continually pushing out content to expand what is possible for players to do. And it's F2P.
The devs for this game are constantly online in forums, reddit, twitter, and livestreaming the game regularly. Communicating with the people who play the game and engaging in real discussions.
