What is bad is that something as bad as Boltshot+Camo or PV is exploitable by everyone. And when more than one person is exploiting per team, the issues compound and shit gets annoying.

Wasn't really saying just one example but if you do that for say 2-3 x AA's and then 3-6 x weapons it sort of makes things more imbalanced. The design behind drops is good to counter this mismatch but it just needs no randomness and fixed spawns for certain playlists.

That is one option but what is wrong with just nerfing the bolshot and PV distances then fixing boltshot reload glitch?

But again if you do this by limiting things then you create a narrow sandbox or create a weird lots of one off pickups.

further the power sandbox has more weapons now so limiting becomes a situation where players will use such weapons rarely and with less counters.

For the record I could vote for PV and boltshot nerf.

Would you consider past Halo games as having narrow sandboxes? I wouldn't. Vision/Camo/Jetpack would take the place of former powerup placements, and past Halo games had a ton of weapons on the map at the time, all of which had different uses and could potentially be controlled. I don't think there's any correlation between removing something in a loadout while placing it as a static element on maps and somehow narrowing the sandbox. You just have to execute properly on the idea, is all.

re: the power sandbox having more weapons - sure, and I'll be the first to say that I'd axe a few of them from matchmaking entirely (Incineration Cannon and Binary Rifle in particular) because I don't find them to be well-balanced, especially in combination with certain perks. It's just my opinion, and you're free to disagree with it, but a smaller sandbox of well-designed, well-implemented weapons will always be a more satisfying experience to me than a bloated sandbox full of things that don't necessarily fit with how the developer wants to use them. Stuff like the abilities and boltshot I think would be fine in a context of conflict arising around them at fixed points on the map. We'll see what the balance changes bring, but I'll take a system where elements like that can be affected and taken out of play by player action any day, which we don't see happening with the loadout system quite as much. It's just a design philosophy that resonates with me.
 
You're missing the point Ozzy. 343 put exploitable shit in the game that their testers failed to recognize. Or maybe 343 just thought getting killed by Camo Boltshot users was incredibly fun in testing and decided to keep it. Regardless, if cutting out all of the exploitable shit leads to a more bare bones game, then so be it. My argument here isn't even about returning to classic Halo, it is about creating a fun experience that doesn't boil down to bullshit exploits that can be chosen in a menu by everyone.

I'm not a fan of boltshot at all either, at least the PP requires a melee afterwards.

PS. Boltshot kills are on par with my melee kills lmao. They're both fighting for 5th tool of destruction. It's really the 4th if you remove all the sniper kills I got in Team Snipes. DMR, BR, (sniper) Melee/Boltshot

Wreckage and Harvest really aren't all that big.

I wrote before how Wreckage really isn't good for anything in Halo 4's gametypes. It's useless aside from Slayer. Harvest can be 5v5/6v6 easily especially since most action takes place at the middle/glass section.

Harvest is on par with Standoff in size. Yes it can be used for 4 v 4, but its better suited for 8 v 8 or 6 v 6. Same with Wreckage.

PS Shatter needs hogs.

Harvest is played in one, smallish area. You control the glass area and you can gain control of the map. It's especially frustrating in CTF when you can sneak over, but hello, a giant fuckin' waypoint is going to tell them where you're going. But with the extra person in Objectives now, I'm okay with 5v5 in these map sizes. Ragnarok is the same. Better than having 5v5 on small maps like what 343 did to it in Reach by putting 10 people in Asylum, Reflection, etc.

Also Standoff was always better in Squad Battle over BTB. It was a ping fest with bad BR's with 16 people.
 
I like Harvest quite a bit, I think it's my favorite big team map behind Exile. They did right and made vehicle areas around the outside and CQC area in the middle.

I've had some fun Oddball games on Wreckage. Thought it worked out alright

Yeah, looks like they added some new stuff today. Seems like there are more share buttons, fixed the chart for games played by variant, and they fixed the medal list (by making it usable, but other than that I haven't seen any other changes.

Wreckage is my favorite map of the DLC. Had some really fun games of Oddball and King of the Hill on there too.
 
Looking at Waypoint stats again, I remembered somethign I meant to complain about a while ago:

What the hell even is this? There's no way to zoom in on specific periods of time, show more players, or see what the specific medals earned are, so what's the point fo even having this in the first place? Meanwhile features that were standard in Bungie's games (and really cool and useful), like the kill viewer that showed who killed who from where, when, and let you scroll through time and change camera angles, or personal and global heatmaps, are just totally thrown out. Why?

Man, some of these play-spaces in the campaign are extremely well made. I'm going through the strategy guide that I picked up on sale, and there's a whole 180+ page section on the campaign. Looking at the overhead views in the book really makes me want to fly around some of these spaces in theatre mode, so hopefully that gets released soon.

I adore CTF on Harvest. That map is made for it, for sure. I've never really found KOTH to work on symmetrical maps, though.
