Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

No, they could but they won't because they think everything is fine as is.

Well, it's just going on 3pm, right? Say it takes 2 hours to test, that means if you can convince them that really they are terribly wrong, you could have a new playlist by close of business today! Cool1!11

Team Throwdown is glorious, pretty much everything I need from a gametype standpoint. With the TU it should be even better. Please fix the respawn scoreboard 343.

There needs to be a harsh punishment for quitter in the Throwdown playlist. Every game I played had people quitting.

It would be nice if they could code a little pop-up in so when players try to quit it warns them that they're screwing their team over and that JIP is off. Then it would be easy to rationalize a brief ban on every quit. That would definitely slow quitting down, or at least drive the quit-happy players into a JIP playlist.

Yeah, they made huge improvements on so many levels in isn't even funny. I actually had fun with the second half of Sp Ops..

That said, it still has issues and did not live up to my expectations.. It doesn't really tough the highs of either SP or FF, and it needs a makeover in some departments. If a season 2 happens, I hope it plays out more like a SP expansion pack rather than the same formula we had in Sp Ops. A lot of the things David said were cut would go a long way to help.

I also want to be part of more than just a blank slate character/team. If a season 2 happens, give us some AI buddies with actual characters, and make them part of the CG.

It seriously feels like a poorly done fan fiction. 343 really, really fucked things up with the story. Dudebro-y Spartans, stereotype scientists, goofy dialogue and voice acting, cheesy, over the top dudebro-y plot. Blah. Lasky and Roland were the only good characters, and even Roland should be dialed back a bit.

The new Spartans suck. They lack the charm of ODSTs or the efficiencies of Spartan 2's.. They feel like some sort of GI Joe cartoon rather than Halo. Blah. I just don't fucking like what 343 did at all. Its really bad. They have talented people there, no doubt, but they went in the wrong fucking direction.

343 really has damaged the Halo story/universe. It really has taken a fucking cheesy, generic nose dive. Its a shame, because their idea if making all the expanded fiction count is great, but their execution.. ugh.

I feel like 343 has tried to replace everything in Halo with thier own version while devaluing and sweeping the old version under the rug. Cool Spartans! Big ships! Bigger guns! Meaner Covenant! Monster-like forerunner tech! And they did this on the gameplay side of things also.

And they fucking devalued the end of Halo 3, because the Covenant as far as I can tell still are at war with us and nothing has changed. Its just... ugh.

Yeah I'm pretty much in agreement....

I was so so SO excited to see where the story would head after Halo 3, to see how humanity was coping after the decimation of its people. Also, to see how the newly vulnerable Prophets, Brutes and Grunts were bartering with the Elites to not get themselves launched into extinction.

It's simply remarkable how they avoided all of the interesting questions raised by the resolution of Halo 3. Instead, 343i seemingly thought 'fuck it' and went on to reverse EVERY SINGLE plot point that had occurred between the end of Halo 1 and the end of Halo 3, they actually made two thirds of the entire trilogy worthless. I actually commend how they pulled that off, IN THE FIRST 20 MINUTES OF THE GAME, I mean, WHAT?

Of course this was just the start however, and they felt the need to single handedly undermine the ODST's and the Spartan 2 programme through the Spartan IV's, Palmer is perhaps symbolically, the worst character in entertainment history. The tone of her character is essentially the antithesis of the Halo trilogy, who on Earth thought 'this character is a good idea'? How does she even get past the alpha stages of development?

They were also incredibly resistant of making this feel like a Halo game in any shape of form. There were two recognisable tracks from the entire series, no expansion on the lore of the Covenant and disastrous execution in the expansion of the Forerunners, killing off their main figurehead in the first game of the 'trilogy'. The fucking FLOOD were not at all mentioned, characters such as Terrence Hood and the Arbiter are presumably dead, oh at least they improved Corta...OH WAIT SHE'S ALSO FUCKING DEAD.

They didn't have enough scope in the campaign to fuck up Halsey, so they did that through Spartan Op's instead. As a result, Fred, Kelly and Chief are the only things left going for this universe, I swear.

WHAT.THE.FUCK.

To go back to what I said earlier, retcon Halo 4 and everything past 'Ghosts of Onyx'. Let's start this shit again.

Ugh. Throwdown is Throwup. The Extraction placements are hot garbage. Actually, Extraction itself is hot garbage. I understand that they want to remain close to the core Halo 4 settings as much as possible, but just like Reach the core settings aren't good for competitive play. Get rid of personal ordnance, give me at least a pistol, and amp up the damage settings a bit more. I can live with Sprint, I'd prefer to not have it, but whatever.

Doubles Pro was good. It could use a few slight tweaks, but otherwise it was a fairly good gametype. Why not modify that and place in the competitive playlist?

Okay, sorry bro, but judging from every single post you make in Halo OT has been negative (yes, i just checked), I don't think Halo 4 is for you.

When, exactly, are you going to quit it?

Ok sorry bro, this is the Halo community OT, not the, Halo 4 OT. While I don't agree with Reagan's BR on a lot of stuff, he's allowed to post it here.

Anything Halo should be discussed here, good or bad.

Want to talk only Halo 4? Go to the official thread for it. Want to talk Halo overall, come here.

There needs to be a harsh punishment for quitter in the Throwdown playlist. Every game I played had people quitting.

One out of the fifteen games I played ended with 2 full teams. Tis bad.

But the gameplay itself when there are two full teams is very good!

Also, I feel like the personal ord. is rather useless and end up not bothering to call it in.

Played a couple of games last night for the first time in a couple months and the game is still fun to play.

Although I have to say, I've always been a huge Grifball fan, and it was so fucking awful in Halo 4 that I couldn't even stomach a full match. Sprint, glitched SFX and the new ball system absolutely ruins it. It should be named something else now because it doesn't feel anything like Grifball.

Yep. Seems everyone is voting for Forge maps as well. I really don't get that. Forge maps killed Reach. Hope the same doesn't happen here

Simplex, Shutout and Dispatch are better than Solace and the execrable Abandon.

And is big-party-matching on? I kept getting stomped by coordinated teams while my team mates were arguing about why their radar didn't work and where AAs were coming from.

Yeah I'm highly suspicious of that promise. Played Simplex slayer, and the other team was too in sync to be randoms or two teams of two. I'd like confirmation on this as this:

Doesn't mention it from what I can see. I really hope they didn't bottle it and disable party matching because that was the main thing keeping me out of the superlative MLG playlist in Reach. Actually if it's not on I'm already done with the playlist.

Someone needs to shop halo 4 as the brick and Halogaf as the washer.

What happened to the Crimson playlist? Can I get the achievements on any map pack now?

Yeah - I mean maybe pull the DMR loadout, but other than that (and increasing the score limit), it is a really nice gametype.

Found it - it was in the original forum announcement thread. I can't believe that it's working right. I was staring down the barrel of every power weapon on the map within the first thirty seconds the one game, and my team was two randoms and a quit-out.

I'm convinced Destiny is vaporware until they release it. So many years in development and then they have their big reveal which is basically a powerpoint presentation... Now the game is confirmed to not be coming out for at least another year... It's getting old even hearing about it.
But they sent the press concept art and pictures of reactions of people playing it! It's totally real.
I just want to say that playing through Aliens: Colonial Marines has given me a new appreciation for Halo 4. Honestly guys, it could have been much much worse :/

I had a lot of success with hologram and especially the Hardlight Shield, which is still totally frustrating to come up against in a firefight.

But even then, I think it's the right way to do ordnance. Outside of HLS, they don't really have any direct killing or defensive power, more focused on evasion and trickery. The fact that once you die, it's gone and it'll take a while to build back up again means that you've got to play smart to make use of it, which is a nice change over dropping in a rocket launcher and going to town mindlessly. Would I rather not have it at all? Probably, but if they're going to do it then this is as close the best implementation as we've seen (though I'd like to see HLS swapped out for something else, even if it's just grenades).

Forge didn't kill anything, a bunch of shitty variants being put into matchmaking was the issue. There were still some gems like Abridged and that one 4v4 map that I can't remember the name of buried among the shitty Renegades and Encloseds of the bunch, and quality control for the Forge maps that have gone into Halo 4 is much better. I'm not a big Rail fan because of the spawns and Relay is kind of horrible, but besides those two the Forge variants are all pretty strong.

How would they retcon a numbered title? Especially with all the money MS has put into Halo 4 alone. I doubt 343 would just talk to MS like "yo, diggety dawg, you know all that money you spent on Halo 4? We need some more money to pretend it didn't happen". Microsoft definitely wouldn't just agree with it straight up, regardless of how involved/little involved they are in overseeing the project. It might not seem like it, but Spartan Ops was probably not too cheap either.

Edit: I usually pick Thruster as my ordnance because it's what I use anyway, saves my ass all the time.

Throwdown needs punishment for quitters.
Finished only 2 matches, both CTF on Simplex, was really good.

Will wait with praising, didn't play deluxe settings and I don't know if in a slayer match everybody just leaves

Last Spartan Ops is so good. Well done 343 on working hard to make the second half of the season so much better. Will love it if we get a season 2.

Could you care to explain why the extraction placement are garbage or why extraction itself is garbage?

Hands down extraction is the best objective in Halo 4, and extraction Haven the best gametype in this playlist.

People will complain about anything, but yours dont seem justifiable.

Throwdown needs a form of punishment for quitters. Two games in a row - entire other team quits out as soon as the first extraction point is captured by my team.

I haven't played a full game yet. Koth on the Lockout remake is miserable

I do like the new settings though

Yeah, everybody quits slayer too, and Deluxe is just DMRs and stickies instead of BRs and frags. Vaguely reminds me of Elite Slayer at Reach launch.

This playlist is fun, but won't be great until they disable sprint somehow. It just throws everything off.
Yeah - sprint and sword is ridiculous when you take out the rest of the sprint-era sandbox. Only way I've managed to take out a sword rusher so far was a very lucky ninja. Lockout is probably a big factor in that.

Neat feature Far Cry 3 just added for their 'Forge' maps:
tl;dr you can finish a map, then you select an option that makes it appear in a special playlist where players can play on it then give feedback. You can also spectate matches on your map.
Damn - 343, stop copying CoD - copy Farcry! lol

Neat feature Far Cry 3 just added for their 'Forge' maps:

Multiplayer: New Beta Map Testing and Spectating for Map Makers

The Problem:
With the current system, when a map maker has finished their map, they upload and publish it, essentially just sending it out "into the wild". They are hoping that it will get sufficient plays in order to get some valuable feedback. With a ballooning amount of user-made maps, this becomes harder and harder. The map maker can also have hard time finding enough players to play the map with, so they can judge for themselves where the map can be improved.

The Solution:
1. Someone makes a map in the editor and uploads or publishes it.
2. They start their map with a special option called “Start Beta Test”.
3. Other players who wish to help out with testing new maps, can join the new Beta Test Playlist or go into the Map Archive where all current maps in Beta Test will be displayed.
4. While in Beta test mode, the map creator can use the new spectating feature to monitor how their map is played.
5. After the round is finished, the players give feedback that the mapmaker can then use to improve the map.

tl;dr you can finish a map, then you select an option that makes it appear in a special playlist where players can play on it then give feedback. You can also spectate matches on your map.

That's actually really cool; I wish Halo had something like this. I think a proper custom game browser would be the best, though.

That is pretty amazing. I'm glad they have enough bandwidth to include features like these.
