Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

So now that Spartan Ops is over was it worth it to take time from campaign and mostly multiplayer development to replace Firefight with the new mode? want S2 or in Halo 5? etc

Haven't played or watched ep10 yet, just curious.

The concept is solid. Execution is far less than stellar.
Needs better mission design and objectives, longer missions. More challenge in a good way, not just more deadly enemies. Needs MUCH MUCH better netcode, as it is it was practially unplayable over Live.
Also needs better story, with interesting, likeable characters.
Definetly would love to see Spartan Ops to come back for Halo 5. Don't care for a second season though, but that's because i won't be getting Live anymore.
Still, would like for ODST-like Firefight to return as well.

Yeah I'm pretty much in agreement....

I was so so SO excited to see where the story would head after Halo 3, to see how humanity was coping after the decimation of its people. Also, to see how the newly vulnerable Prophets, Brutes and Grunts were bartering with the Elites to not get themselves launched into extinction.

It's simply remarkable how they avoided all of the interesting questions raised by the resolution of Halo 3. Instead, 343i seemingly thought 'fuck it' and went on to reverse EVERY SINGLE plot point that had occurred between the end of Halo 1 and the end of Halo 3, they actually made two thirds of the entire trilogy worthless. I actually commend how they pulled that off, IN THE FIRST 20 MINUTES OF THE GAME, I mean, WHAT?

Of course this was just the start however, and they felt the need to single handedly undermine the ODST's and the Spartan 2 programme through the Spartan IV's, Palmer is perhaps symbolically, the worst character in entertainment history. The tone of her character is essentially the antithesis of the Halo trilogy, who on Earth thought 'this character is a good idea'? How does she even get past the alpha stages of development?

They were also incredibly resistant of making this feel like a Halo game in any shape of form. There were two recognisable tracks from the entire series, no expansion on the lore of the Covenant and disastrous execution in the expansion of the Forerunners, killing off their main figurehead in the first game of the 'trilogy'. The fucking FLOOD were not at all mentioned, characters such as Terrence Hood and the Arbiter are presumably dead, oh at least they improved Corta...OH WAIT SHE'S ALSO FUCKING DEAD.

They didn't have enough scope in the campaign to fuck up Halsey, so they did that through Spartan Op's instead. As a result, Fred, Kelly and Chief are the only things left going for this universe, I swear.

WHAT.THE.FUCK.

To go back to what I said earlier, retcon Halo 4 and everything past 'Ghosts of Onyx'. Let's start this shit again.

Agree with everything here. I have no idea where they are going with this "epic" story but they ruined anything interesting about it.

How would they retcon a numbered title? Especially with all the money MS has put into Halo 4 alone. I doubt 343 would just talk to MS like "yo, diggety dawg, you know all that money you spent on Halo 4? We need some more money to pretend it didn't happen". Microsoft definitely wouldn't just agree with it straight up, regardless of how involved/little involved they are in overseeing the project. It might not seem like it, but Spartan Ops was probably not too cheap either.

Edit: I usually pick Thruster as my ordnance because it's what I use anyway, saves my ass all the time.

I could retcon the story. Arbiter is alive and well and discovers the "new covies" and another civil war breaks out. The Brutes find out and side with Ju; and join the new covies. The Flood break out amidst all this choas. Now all of humanity is at risk as the Didact has decided to make installation 3 his new home and pairing with 343 guilty spark, they decide the only thing left is to light the rings again as they want to destroy both the flood and humanity.

Master Chief is in seclusion, destroyed by the loss of Cortana. He is the key to stopping Didact and is only motivated when he learns Kelly and Fred are alive.

Palmer and the Spartan IV's are dispatched to installation 3 and the Infinity is taken by the flood. They are attacked by Jul and the forerunner keys are united showing Halsey all the forerunner locations. She uses this information to find the fragments of Cortana which lives in scattered in the Forerunner mainframes. The librarian knowing Cortana was dying altered Cortana so that her consciousness would outlive her broken frame. Only waiting for a form to inhabit. Halsey tricks Jul into letting her recompile Cortana into a new A.I. which with the Librarians help will never experience rampancy. She does this by convincing Jul that only Cortana can operate and help retrieve these forerunner artifacts.

The Librarian, guiding Halsey help her contact Fred and Kelly to let them know where she is. Fred and Kelly are instructed to find Chief. It is only with his former Spartan II's that Chief agrees to lead the remaining Spartan IV's in an impossible final battle with the Flood and the Didact controlled Covies.

To Halsey's surprise, she is rescued by the Arbiter and his armies. Halsey, Arbiter and Cortana reunite with Chief, Fred, Kelly, Lasky and what is left of Crimson and Majestic. Paired with the survivors of the "Fall of Infinity" they are Earth's last defense.

Time is short, the Flood MUST not be allowed to leave installation 3. The Didact and Guilty Spark threaten to fire the rings. Jul and his Brute Army paired with the remaining forerunners will do anything to fulfill the Didact's plan to wipe out humanity.

Does Master Chief have what it takes to lead humanities last stand?

or something like that...

Multiple times today the auto-pickup on the Flag screwed me over in a game. Each time I was coming to the defense of a teammate who was running the flag. I actually stepped in front of the flag carrier in one instance to absorb shots. He was killed from behind and the flag landed on me. What would have been an easy double kill was now turned into a Flag carrying single kill with a pistol that did the jammed clip glitch.

Other time was similar. Escorting a flag carrier. Running alongside him. He jumps to avoid a grenade and it pushes him in the air above me - he's killed in air, flag lands on me, no chance to use sniper or the 5 grenades I had left to hold off the opposition.

Did none of these scenarios ever come up in playtesting? Throwdown is a really solid playlist - with a few changes it could be Halo.

It was worth the time to experiment a new mode aside from firefight, I had a lots of fun on the second half of season 1. yet it fails to deliver a new experience to the players.

No, I dont want another Season in Halo 4 but I want it for Halo 5.

[1]No, they don't.

No, it doesn't. It "spawns" wherever the first team to capture it is located at the time of capture. It allows for strategic captures where you specifically arm it on the side where your team has better sight lines or setups. Or you can purposely arm it in the most open/vulnerable location to make it harder to convert.

[2]So, instead of killing some people and taking advantage of the respawn delay to safely convert or whatever, you and your "idiot teammates" (which is likely why you enjoyed it less) just kept running in 1 at a time going for objective? OK, got it.

[3]This is also incorrect. It seems you need to play the gametype earnestly instead of just joining the complain train this time.

[4]So, it seems that your biggest complaint is that it takes a coordinated effort to get the extraction point. I'm sorry, but I don't see the issue here. If teammates/coordination or knowledge of the gametype is the problem, how is that the gametype's fault?

[5]I know you're one of the good guys, but I genuinely think you could not be more subjectively wrong and factually incorrect in this case.

I really wish you had kept my post whole or annotated or something. You're cutting out a fair amount of context...

[1]I will acknowledge that I am wrong here. I didn't realize, since I didn't go for the objective, that it's just an ambiguous volume that places the point wherever it is initially extracted. I just went in to check and I found I was incorrect. A way to improve it would be to have the volume act like a hill marker until it's extracted. More clarity is always good.

[2]When the point goes contested for a long time because it's a wide open pit, it's not good. It's far too easy to throw a grenade to point B, and shoot a couple of pot shots. That's even disregarding my teammates' ignorance.

[3]Now had you quoted my entire post, you'd see that I also said this: "Of course, you could stop extracting, but that means you're back at square one, assuming you survive." at the end of the post. Also the player can't move while extracting. So the "Play it right, quit bitching" rebuttal seems excessive.

[4]That's not my biggest complaint. My biggest complaint is that it leaves the player as a sitting duck. In every other mode the player can defend themselves without reverting back to square one on the objective.

[5]Necessary?

Just retcon everything after 2009.

Spoken like a filthy casual. True halo lore whores go back in time to ensure Halo 2 got all the time it needed and Halo 3 and Reach became vastly different beasts, going on to spearhead the videogame industry for the next thousand years. Get with the program, bk.

Well that ending of Spartan Ops kind-of sucked. More stuff happened in recent episodes than at the end of this one. Not sure how I feel about the
ambiguous Halsey defecting-or-using-M'dama tease. I feel like this is just another cliffhanger and doesn't give proper closure. I don't think she will actually defect, considering she already threw the other half to Majestic after-the-fact, it doesn't make much sense for her to defect now. And if she does.. well that would suck.

How you guys can say Halo 4 has bad writing (at least in campaign, I will concede that Spartan Ops' writing is mediocre) then defend ODST's story and characters is beyond me. Buck is just as bad as Palmer.

Because in one we rarely hear from them and in the other they never stop spouting annoying shit.

I haven't seen too much of Palmer because I haven't played SpOps that much, but from what I saw of her in campaign: I disagree wholeheartedly! Buck at least has some charm to him.

Loving the TD's playlist. Great job on the settings. Simplex would be a great map of TD's if it's not already in there.

Be a man and leave without telling anyone only to return at a random moment in the future as if you had never left

It would actually be fairly easy to leave now though. Spartan Ops pt 2 made me get the game again. The new environments were great along with the few new mechanics added, but ultimately why would I play this game anymore? The new mappack won't appeal to me if I am playing a game that doesn't hold my attention in the MP arena anyway. Campaign just doesn't have the replayablity of past Halo titles to me.

Umm...

When a player goes to capture a point, they are stuck in that arming animation until they die or they capture it.

...

I was addressing wrong information in your post. Based on the other inaccuracies, I assumed you were mistaken at some point.

As to your other rebuttals, I just don't see what's wrong with needing to slay and use teamwork for objective captures. I'm pretty sure that's how Halo has been for some time now. It reminds me of Halo 2 bomb arms/disarms. You had to sit defenseless to arm and hold that same location to disarm. You had to slay as a team first to ensure this could happen. How is this a bad thing?

twice actually! i could only find my most recent one.

LOL I love reading this thread. People are way too cereal sometimes..

Where's the suspense in that? Michael Myers got his head chopped off in H20 but they still found a way to make a sequel ;]
