No one cares about the OT except for a few of you in this thread. These threads aren't inviting anymore and the only people who bother are the few remaining posters and the kids that sign up because of stinkles. So I really wouldn't bother over thinking the whole OT thing if I were you guys.

This place isn't worth the effort any more, sadly.

Why would you say that? We still have members here, we have people that love Halo, we have people that enjoy Halo 4. We still have a Halo community. We have good people here.

it's the "oh man look how negative and edgy I am" hivemind.

I'm not saying this place is perfect ; it's far from it, but the saltiness and negativity is blown WAY out of proportion.

I've been consistently posting HaloGAF going six years and for for five years before you even joined GAF. I am not part of any "hivemind".

Why would you say that? We still have members here, we have people that love Halo, we have people that enjoy Halo 4. We still have a Halo community. We have good people here.

This place has changed. How people view HaloGAF has changed.

This place just isn't the same place that encouraged me to join GAF back years ago. There's zero intelligent discussion. No intelligent speculation. No enthusiasm. There's far too much bitchiness and snark, and folks just shitting the place up. Seeing a page full of Cortana and Spartan ass pictures is pretty common.

There's nothing left here. Wu, Ghaleon, the TJ's (cant for the life of me explain why Ram has stuck around), the AJ folks, Eazy and plenty more have just gone. Disappeared. Heck, even the 343 guys are slipping away, and with good reason.

Doesn't help that Halo 4 was not the Halo title I wanted it to be, and neither was Reach.

Thankfully, for Halo, I'm not limited to this place. So I just don't post anymore. Pretty soon, I imagine, I'll stop visiting everyday. Folks know who I am and where I am. I still love the franchise. I still run the projects and websites that I do. I'm still on GAF. But not for Halo.

Other than the crappy netcode, the small population, and the 8-year old teammates that can't even betray you when you're standing still, Halo 3's still a pretty enjoyable game. Plus, the Grav Lift is fun for some lulz.

Dani's got a point though. I'm not gonna go on about how this place used to be better since I was only here since Reach OT3 or 4. Sometime in January/February 2011. Not that long ago. This has been an online home for many of the older members here who don't post anymore. Partly because of Halo, partly because of this community. They're the experts on what this community used to be. Slightly Live here is the one who organized the weekly GAF custom nights, staying up until the early am to do it.

But even when I joined this place was a lot nicer. I have to say, the direction of the franchise had something to do with it, but the flood of people coming in also dirtied up the thread. Getting accepted on GAF was seemingly a bigger deal than it is now

The only thing that has made this thread unbearable is the constant whining about HaloGAF and the pretentious goodbye messages.

I've been here since the Halo 3 days I believe. I agree with you Dani, I think everyone knows how I'll have an occasional rant here or there about the mass of negativity. It gets old, and it's driven HaloGaf members from when I started away and even the 343 guys are rarely around.

That being said there are still some good people here, I got that from playing with a bunch of the people here. I think some folks bitch more in the thread than they typically do in person or via chat. Seems like we all almost have alternate personas on here.

Hopefully the HaloGaf community can turn it around and start getting back to what it was, a friendly, fun place for deep Halo discussion and gameplay. It may need to start with a Halo game that more than a handful of us like, but I think there's still a spark left here...somewhere.

Really? I mean, lets face it, nothing really happens in these threads anymore. Most of the people here don't even play the game anymore and the rest who do sit here and bitch about it, though it's not without good reason. Most of the people who really made the Halo OT's as great as they were are gone now. You guys (obviously) don't know it but I've been browsing GAF and HaloGAF since 2011 (which isn't long by any standards) before I got an account and there really was a time when everyone who posted here did so with lots of energy and excitement and talked about what they did in an intelligent, friendly manner. What's left now doesn't even compare what it used to be and it's honestly mostly because of how the franchise has taken a turn for the worst but there are smaller reasons involvede. Halo 4 isn't a proper addition to the franchise and it (and to a lesser extent Reach) has really broken the community. What we have now isn't Halo anymore and it doesn't seem like that's going to be changed. There is no real discussion on Halo like there used to be. Slightly Live put it in better words than I ever could. All we talk about anymore is Wahrer's sandbox, pornstars, Game of Thrones, and thinking of the best ways to introduce or expose 16/17 year olds to unhealthy lifestyles. There really isn't anything left here and I don't think there will be until there is a new exciting announcement for Halo that will put some new hope in our hearts only to have them broken when the game comes out. I honestly can't formulate the best way to say what I'm feeling but Slightly Lives post is true and it mirrors how I'm feeling right now. It's just, the times you guys seemed to have while I was lurking was so much more happier and lighthearted than it is now and you guys genuinely seemed to enjoy the game you played. And all I can think of is how we really have no purpose, we argue over things that'll never change, wish for things that have zero chance of happening, and finally most of what we've all said, which started out as constructive criticism and only the best intents in mind, has fallen upon partially deaf ears which has caused HaloGAF to be more tense and become more malicious. And I think I'll be leaving too, I'm not known by you guys to say things more than maybe 60 characters and most of the things I've said have been shitty attempts at humor and I've never really contributed the way I always felt I thought I would while I was lurking. This is not the poster I want to be or the way I want to be remembered as, so I don't think I'll be posting here unless we all get out of the slump we're in or a new title was announced. If you guys are having parties you can always PM me or invite me on Live and I'll always respond. Thanks for the great times everyone, but I'm just not feeling it anymore.

Also, Karl makes me sad but I can't blame him:

This is also true, it makes me sad thinking that I've contributed to ruining the group here. I'm even less experienced than you in what this place used to be yet it's fairly obvious to me how much different of a place it is now. When it was a tighter community the regulars had their own (usually good) opinions on things and there was some really constructive talk going on in here, but it's gone now.

The only thing that has made this thread unbearable is the constant whining about HaloGAF and the pretentious goodbye messages.
lol, add another one to the list then.

Yeah, a bit much drama for a community centered around a video game series. A lot of first world problems for sure. It gets a bit ridiculous at times. I have yet to use my ignore list at all. Some folks get on my nerves, but it's usually just in regards to Halo and I don't hold that against them.

That's not true, the problem isn't HaloGAF, the problem is Halo 4.

I don't agree. The game has something to do with the negativity sure, but the way people post is the biggest issue. This is the Halo thread, not the Halo 4 thread. There are 6 other games to talk about if you don't like 4.

That's literally most members ON HaloGAF. He only has like 5 people not ignored lol.

My ignore list is still zero, I don't see the purpose of putting anyone on ignore, it is a community, what's the point of being in a community if you just censor people you don't like? No one here really bugs me to the point that I don't want to see what you're saying.

I think we're all getting a little too dramatic right now. :/ We need to calm down a bit, and just try and be friendly with each other again. I don't personally see a problem with people criticizing Halo 4 and 343 on here often, and I don't see it as a grave mind, I see it as a bunch of passionate fans being upset over their beloved franchise being ruined daily. Honestly, how do you expect most users to react to "We had a good traditional Halo game, but we scrapped it because it was too traditional"? People are just upset, and they voice their opinions. I know some people may dislike that, but it's nothing to get upset over.

Well dammit, I didn't get the memo.

On an unrelated note... anyone want one of these? I had one I was going to sew onto my backpack but I got another one at a LAN.

What's happening here is no different than any other Halo forum has been in the last 3 years. The games have been weaker installations compared to their predecessors and the community becomes separated between those who like it and those who don't (which you see more of on forums). After 6-9 months, the rift widens, positive posters get scared away, and the only thing left is shit posting, circle jerking, and the occasional "favorite" thread. Again, it's nothing that I'm not used to seeing.

Are we really to blame though? 6 months later and there's nothing left other than sporadic attempts at post-game support and a community just now reconnecting previously severed lines. Couple that with the PR disasters and general [online] apathy and you're really only left with a recipe for negativity.

Back when Halo was top dog and the community was vivaciously vigorous, stuff like this was reserved for exclusive corners of the internet, as it should be. But here we are - complaining about the complaints, and the negativity is bleeding out of Halo and into off-topic snides, snarks, and other superfluous topics.

Even if we all put on our sugar pants and wore fake smiles, it wouldn't change. It's okay to be disappointed, but the only way anything will improve is if people start actually doing something positive. We can either play a [Halo] game we like and invite people to join us (like some do), or speculate about what mandible armor would look good on the Arbiter in Halo 5. Either way, we're not gonna have any bones to chew for a while, so it's better not to remain idle.

all this drama is a bit crazy, but looking at it in retrospect, we're an extremely tight knit community, so drama is to be expected.

we have nights where we do genuinely talk about halo, whether it be the good or the bad, and we have nights where we talk about dylan rider, but thats okay. We're a family. I didn't join to talk about Halo all the time or to talk to stinkles or to talk about porno. I joined because you guys seemed like a cool group of people who shared a common interest. I think part of the reason there's been this feud lately is because if you say you like halo 4, you're immediately shot down. deadly cyclone posts about his good times in halo 4, and he and I might just be the only people to do that on the reg. I'm not sayin halo 4 is 9.8/10, but it's definitely not worth the hate it gets, especially calling Kevin franklin out, despite his questionable choices for halo. "hgs" is also annoying as fuck. I'd expand but typing on my phone is a pain in the ass.

but hey, I'm just an annoying babby who stinks at halo and posting.

Not really...the game as been out for 6 month. The game is what it is. Nothing will change that. You either love the game or hate it. the faster you guys understand this the better this forum will be.

Halo on the Nextbox better be fucking amazing, if for no other reason than to get this/these threads back on track.

I think 343 has learned a lot from the mistakes they made in Halo 4. I'm sure Halo 5 will be a much better game. I hope so, or else the Halo community might fall apart.

Is there any interest in bringing back HaloGAF customs? Never played in the OG ones, but yolo

I know there's a good sized group playing Halo 4 BTB, but might as well try and make a big 16 player custom game (Whether it be Reach or H4)
