Pretty sure IGN "confirmed" that the Xbox needed an online connection too, which was later said to be false by Xbox.

It'd still work, it just be Starcraft style. Lots of things would have to be worked out and it wouldn't be as simple, but it'd still work.

It's what got Overkill banned from XBL. Probably the best competitive settings I've tried so far, although I haven't had much time with Unity yet.
It's already $70 for P2P bullshit. I think $100 is excessively optimistic.

Not to agree with your characterization, but Apple went for an all-in-one portable entertainment device aimed at the average consumer and made billions. I think Microsoft has a better idea of where the entertainment landscape is headed than Sony, who essentially has to hope its pitch to hardcore gamers is enough to survive on as a company at this point.
So my friend has to use my account to play a game I let him borrow? That is still pretty shit. How is that a positive in any way?

So my thoughts just on the conference.
Pro's

Right now GTA 5 is more exciting than the next generation of consoles. I wouldnt be suprised if more than a few people wait on jumping to next gen till they finish GTA 5 considering BC is not a thing for either console. That is of course unless GTA 5 is next gen? Hopefully they dont announce a Halo game at E3, I dont want a reason to want this thing.

- Snap games and tv/ other games to play stuff while matchamking.
- Controller
- Interactive TV has potential if the developers actually use it.
- I Kind of always wanted to try Kinnect.
- Minority report gestures (lol)

- I want to actually play games.
- I am from the UK, I doubt the TV service will be great here.
- What kind of internet connection will I need to stream without loading?
- 360 Smartglass sucks, why would the next one be any better?
- Is the cloud stuff optional?
- EA Ignite was a waste of time, I am glad they are improving AI but I can get that stuff on PS4.
- Halo TV lol! Glad I can get 90% of the experience from Youtube, will save me money.
- Kinnect being integral to the console probably means that multi platform games will be missing stuff on PS4, which would suck if I got a PS4.
- CoD Ghosts closing the presentation is great advertising for a game that is also on PS4.
- CoD lean will probably help the campers hide behind corners more.
- Im not a fan of the name and I think it looks clunky.
- I dont use a TV, I use my Monitor, will kinnect fit on that?
- Kinnect will spy on me 24/7 even when the machine is off

You know, i actually debated not coming on here for about a week just to avoid the overreactions. Im underwhelmed by the conference, but not the future of the console. E3 will be huge. I already know im buying both, that will just reveal which i buy first.
And this proves my point exactly, these two articles from the same author contradict eachother. Theirs confusion everywhere and no one knows whats true and whats not.

Microsoft is a VERY fragmented company and its been an issue for awhile from what I hear. Microsoft needs a HUGE restructuring honestly.
It's a native feature, not something that was added years after the console's original release. Not the same thing.

Used games can be bought and sold for it, but there is still the activation fee.
It's basically a system wide online pass, and only tied to 1 account, not a console.
Example: I bought Halo 5 and didn't like it. Traded it to Gamestop. Someone buys my copy from Gamestop and brings it home. At the installation screen, this person is prompted to pay x dollars for the pass/license. After paying, the game is installed. Only that user can play my old copy of Halo 5 freely; if his brother/sister wants to play it, even on the same system, he or she must pay another activation fee.
Oh, and you can't install it unless you are online. And even after installing, if you haven't signed into Live in the last 24 hours, you can't play it or anything else without reconnecting. Huzzah!

The used game thing sucks for a lot of people, I get that, but when you buy a used game NONE of the profit goes to the people that make it.
All you're doing is supporting gamestop...it is super inconvenient as far as sharing games with friends, etc, but it's helping a problem that's gone on for a long time.

Doesn't look very portable to me. Can you even imagine an Apple logo on that monstrosity? Also, MS has tried to follow in Apple's footsteps before when it comes to entertainment devices and it hasn't gone well.
As for any comparison to Sony, it sure looks to me like MS is making several of the same errors in judgement with the XB1 that Sony made with the PS3. People want a bad-ass gaming console to play bad-ass games on, not a glorified cable box with a camera.

Gamestop? I can sell and buy games directly to/from other people. Have people forgotten that is possible?
And i can sell pretty much anything i own to another person, why not video games? There's nothing that grants them an exception.

You should read in between the lines more, man, or maybe I should be more clear. I don't know the numbers, but i'd say the MAJORITY of used game sales is from places like gamestop. I also mentioned that it's inconvenient with friends, and it is, as would be selling to another person.

I own something, i can sell it to another person (or Gamestop or other store). At least, i should be able.
It's not really used games that bugs me it is that I can't borrow a friend of mine a game just to show him how awesome it is.
Fuck I couldn't even give it to family members easily.
Kinect stuff actually looked cool this time though and apparently you can be VERY close to the TV to use it as well now....but then everything else is just...yeah.

Yeah, but if I buy a library book, a cd, dvd, or blu-ray, my buddy doesn't have to front full price to be able to consume whatever it is I gave him. If it weren't for used games, I'd never have traded in my PS2 and all my games/accessories for an og Xbox (used) and Halo: CE (used). Switching to Xbox and playing Counterstrike/Halo: CE was one of the defining moments in my time as a gamer. It saddens me to know other people won't have this kind of opportunity.

Aside from the online verification & used game awful nuttery, this was just a real miscalculated reveal.

I'm in the US, so the TV stuff sound pretty good to me, but MS better have a pretty good response for the rest of the world, because that does seem like a tough sell if you have all of this cool stuff that does nothing for a lot of people.
I've already seen some improvements in SmartGlass and since it is all software once the foundation is in place there could be some cool applications, the question is will anyone take advantage of the potential? It would actually be surprising if it doesn't get better, though definitely understand cynacism.
I was indifferent about the name, but it is already growing on me. It is the kind of thing that I never really care about, I suppose the only concern is can it be marketed well enough that there is a big enough population for the games that I end up playing where I can be ensured a good experience.
As far as games, I'll be curious to see developers start to weigh in on what the hardware can provide and if they are excited about it. Spec porn is always a fun game but I want to see the results. Hopefully E3 will deliver although I assume there will be nothing mind-blowing for a year or so after all the systems drop.
