I only have myself ignored
My posts still show up, unfortunately
:O
Wait a second - stupid question, but I live under a rock. I didn't know you did halo art stuff. What is it exactly you do? I always thought you worked with MLG or something.
MLG wat. My Eagle had a thing to stand on in Halo 3!
I don't do anything Halo-related in real-life except play Halo and post in forums, with very occasional art stuff as I feel like it. Here's my deviantart. No furries, promise.
In my RL career, my title used to be Assistant Cartographer so I could make awkward jokes about being a SILENT Cartographer but now I'm a Geospatial Analyst 2 after levellng up a couple times.
I heard about GAF through YourExWife, who I know in real life.
Josh Menke said:My current philosophy on ranking systems is to design them for the people who do care about ranking systems, and those people like details.
My philosophy on matchmaking is to get players in the best games ASAP, with matchmaking trumping ranking, since it affects the most people.
The compromise happens in making sure you make the best matches, but still give meaningful ranking. We'll see how it goes!
Also, keep in mind, my personal philosphy, etc., isn't the only thing that goes into what I'm working on, and it subject to change.
How many of you played Starcraft 2? Of those, how many worried about demotions back when you could sitll be demoted mid-season?
A glimmer of hope. Then I remember the perk that let's you survive exploding vehicles.

Did you two find out about each other in NM (currently), or back when you lived in Valparaiso? If the latter, small world, holy hell.
found out about each other
I looked into his eyes and knew
Naw, we went to high school together. Met in special ed, for real... because New Mexico treated its "gifted" program as a wing of special education. It was funny, our classroom was always in danger of being invaded by actual special ed kids because it was in the same hallway. And I actually ended up in this "mixed" regular/special education history class because I guess I was flagged as special ed. It was as if I was a God amongst men.
Didn't Josh work on matchmaking and ranking systems at Blizzard for games like Starcraft II? Having him is only a positive in my book.

Some conclusions is far too ambiguous for effective arm chair development, I need more. There's such a great Josh story I'd love to be able to tell about a meeting a couple months ago involving someone from outside our studio coming to give a talk. Long story short, some conclusions were given based on Startcraft II's system. The person giving the talk didn't know that Josh created those systems. Hilarity ensued.

Were yall consulting with Wahrer for adding gravity gauntlets? I'll hang up and listen.
Josh Menke is going to kill it for the upcoming Halo, got to talk to him for a bit at Pax. Guy knows his stuff.
First time poster?
That's what they tell all the special ed kids.
I don't think I ever had a "class" in there per se. Mostly just used the place to do Calculus and LAN Unreal Tournament.
Rank talk is giving me the smallest glimmer of hope for Halo 5. Quick someone squish it before I get out of hand.

What would it take for you to be utterly disappointed with a new Halo game? What is your criteria for failure? That's what many of don't see.
Are you TRYING to create the slowest first person shooter game of all time? The Reach DMR's ROF is 12 frames. Since the DMR is 5 shots, there are only 4 shot intervals/pauses (5-1). We then get a kill time of precisely 1.6 seconds (4*12 = 48 frames and 48f/30fps = 1.6s). The default bloom resets after 20 frames. If we ROF locked it at this we would get a WHOPPING minimum kill time of 2.67 seconds (4*20 = 80 frames and 80f/30fps= 2.67s). I'll take a DMR that can kill in 1.6 second with 100% bloom over a 2.67 second ZB DMR any day. It would be nearly impossible to connect 5 shots on someone without having them run away after the first or second shot. You would have to drastically reduce the movement speed and definitely get rid of sprint in order to make it work. Even then it would be a slow chore that even arthritic grandpas would get bored of.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and say you probably don't know what you're asking for.
At last, these 3 are finally cool to someone.
If you had talked to him, you only would have broken Luke Timmins' heart.Shit he was around? I would have loved to meet him.
Judging by his tweets, I think we are in good hands in terms of ranking system stuff for Halo 5.

It's alright, buddy. I know that a piece of your love belongs to me. No justification needed.Timmins is a networking guru, Josh is a matchmaking/ranking system guru. Love for all.

Just pm'd GhaleonPM a mod and get it changed brah.
I started off with the guy from Halo 2, then changed the letters around to make it a bit more personalized. :/
actually i misspelled it, but we're rolling with it
edit: Also, any GAF members working on a Ricochet map for the contest? I hope so. Contest is going swimmingly btw. We've received some pretty good submissions this week.
I am doing some last touch ups to my map. I need some help with a name for the map and some players to test it.. Wahrer seen my map at first but I fixed up my bases and made some minor tweaking here and there. I might put up a video later on tonight. I hope you guys like what you see!
How major are these tweaks? I'm doing a big playtest in about 20 minutes.
Not that big.
My map is ready. I need a name to it that's all.
Edit: I have not submitted it yet but I can get on and put it on my file share?
