Classic will always be underrated, even when they beat all the popular teams. Been like that for years.
If there are any multiplayer achievements in Halo 4, I'll buy the game used (I know, but I can't not play it). There has yet to be a single good MP achievement in Halo. And there's no point in continuing to try, there never will be. Fuck them. All of them.
On that note, anyone want to boost? I mean, that's the only way of getting 80% of them (that or playing against AFCers)

I doubt it does that on twitch. I set it to 720p and it's still turrible.

Once you get the main core gameplay and playlists running you can start adding new ones like LD, Grifball or AS.
Ironically Reach splitted the base population by adding TU (I'm fine with it) and messing it up with Anniversary playlists.

Hasn't Reach risen from 8th to 5th in the Live charts in the past few weeks?
If Reach pop is down, it's a general Live issue too.

A "Mercenary" list in Halo 4 would be cool, but kicking guests out of ranked lists is even more urgent to me. Guests are one of the top reasons Halo matches get shitty.

That was the best thing about Ranked, if you wanted to bring your friend into the playlist he needed to have his own profile and account.
The amount of freeloading guests is a problem, not least because there's no way to measure their skill level and match them appropriately.
I understand you mean competitive multiplayer achievements, but I would love to see stuff like Annual return.

You honestly think that consolidating playlists (thus reducing the chances of a desired gametype) will please anyone and make more people play Reach?
Reach is not nor has ever been as big as Halo 3's population was, and that's not necessarily the fault of the game itself either--there's a lot more shooters in 2012. Reach's population has been stable the past few months to boot--and there's actual stats to back that up.
In other words, all indications are you're wrong. Whether or not dedicated custom games browsers, etc. are a good idea or implementable, this simplistic "cut playlists, increase population" mindset I'm seeing in this thread is disingenuous.

Not a joke, my wallet's my only option in terms of getting my (tiny) voice heard, and I've been using it all generation. If I don't like a certain aspect of the game that could have been easily avoided (day 1 DLC for example), I don't buy the game. For Halo, since I can't not buy it, I'll just buy it used.
And no, achievements aren't what keeps people playing Multiplayer (except for Seriously type achievements, which are the only ones I wouldn't have minded in Halo but aren't there). The LW achievements from H3, or the Living Dead achievements in Reach are certainly not what's keeping me on Halo.
Good gameplay should keep people playing your game, and achievements are there to reward you for playing. You're not supposed to count on fucked up achievements that will take ages to get until you finally get lucky to keep your population levels high.

Another thought. should we even consider BTB going ranked ever? Doesn't even seem right to me in so many ways that I can't even properly articulate why. Seems like where we should funnel the guests too imo. Scrubs who will have a chance against BTB scrubs. People seem to have BTB on their ranked list though, and its confusing me.

BTB ranked? Nah. I think BTB is popular because people can join the game with 3 friends on a console and don't get destroyed(yeah sometimes a guy with 3 guests can defeat you too but that is not the case often) like it would happen in TS or other Playlists the most times.

The perfect playlist for guests for the next game should be Halo: Reach
The population hits 550K to 600+ on weekends. Considering the amount of games to play right now, its population is completely fine. Why do people say this shit? Playlist consolidation would be an easy task if they could make up their minds on the TU standpoint. There's just too much of a difference now for the TU and how 343 wants to please everybody, there's just too much shit going around. One playlist, Arena, hasn't been touched in terms of maps and AA loadouts for far too long. Either dump it try and place some Arena rankings in other playlists or freakin' update it.
That's not to excuse their poor management on BTB and Objective. Two playlists I have generally enjoyed gone to shit because of slayer-heavy gametypes and fringe gametypes in TO.
Why ruin BTB with terrible guests?

I agree that BTB doesn't need to be ranked. I don't think it can be the only guests-enabled list, though. Just make a Social Slayer list for guests, too. It'll split the population, but it would be well worth it.
And yeah, I'd be okay with drop in / drop out in BTB, I think...

People may only play a certain playlist, that's the only reason they play Halo.
Population numbers aren't gonna jump by thousands if certain playlists are removed.

When its ranked it's not ruined by guests. 3's ranking system was so fucked it was a death machine for BTB. That's why it lasted about 7-8 months. Halo 2's BTB was ranked over two years and did great for itself. They split it up between slayer-objectives when Halo 3 was on its way to coming out, but the life it sustained was pretty strong. The rank system, and party restrictions, are a bigger key to the success how of 343's BTB will be. Get it right and it will be great. If not, we'll have another flop like these past two games' unranked BTB.

I'm not sure what you mean. And I barely remember Halo 2's Ranked BTB, so keep that in mind when shitting on my thoughts.
I got to 45 in RBTB in Halo 3. Couldn't get any higher because we couldn't find any games in the high 40s.
If that was the Slam Dunk contest it was so true...Iguadola was so sick in that the year he did it.
