I really miss that though, nading down say rockets on battle creek. Now it's just run up to somewhere first like a jackass. What I really miss though were the ladders. Now people will say they prefer lifts but that's because you want height advantage without the risk necessary to obtain it. Risk v Reward in Halo just got worse and worse in every damn sequel.

Why are we worried about the game being shit for a couple months on launch as the devs catch up? Want your BR fix just play objective or BTB! Ugh.

All while the power weapons and Pistol took more skill to get kills with, so it worked out perfectly. It wasn't very hard to use a Plasma Rifle, AR or Shotgun in Halo CE, and you could do very well with them, but if someone kills you with a Pistol or Sniper at close range, it took a lot more skill compared to how much skill you need to get a kill with close range weapons.
That's the main problem with close range weapons, they are way too easy to use in Halo games, and without a high skill based precision weapon (CE Pistol and H2 BR with glitches to an extent) they own the close range space without much skill required. I'm not sure how you could make close range weapons more challenging to use, outside of recoil, which Halo has never done.

This is why I'm not interested in PvP Halo anymore. It's like everyone just ignores what happened in the previous games and their lifespans. And it's not like the games were that long ago, now that they're on a 2 year cycle. Give me a fun Firefight and Campaign matchmaking and I'm good.
The cycle of launching lists as AR/SMG start and then reintroducing global BR starts to it post launch pointlessly repeats itself each time a LIVE capable Halo title has been released, and with the same playlists each time. The previous statement suggests that the lessons and events of the previous title's multiplayer are ignored. I don't feel like beta testing for Microsoft. Thusly, I endeavor to eschew player versus player combat modes for the more cooperative pleasures of solo story and player vs enemy combat scenarios.

It boggles my mind, Halo 2/3/Reach all had to throw BR/DMR into a bunch of lists on spawn anyway. Halo 2 it was like "derp." Halo 3 it was like "uh hello remember 2?" Reach was like ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS IS THIS STILL A THING.
That's actually a good idea for business, make everything AR starts at the beginning so not a single person complains outside of the whiny, minuscule demographic that "cares" about "design" but really just wants to own people with an overpowered starting weapon.
I'm not sure on how he's actually handling it, but if you had an ESPN bracket, then you could still enter the group. At least this is how the locking rules are: "Locking Rules: Locked - Entries may leave/join group only before the second round begins"I meant to... just forgot

I do have an espn bracket. I entered one for me and one for my GF. She basically picked the "names of the ones that she liked" and somehow we're even... lol I've only missed two so far though. So she's been pretty lucky I guess. Of course, so have I.

Sad thing is even the scrubs catch on at some point when people rush the br/nr and they're dying over and over without recourse.
Also I bet Fyrewulff fucking loved one flag/one bomb on Burial Mounds with just an SMG. Ugh.
Nope (bottom of post). Burial Mounds is a terrible map. Not even BR starts could save it.
edit: that is to say, you could fix the map but the amount of work required means you're basically better off making a spiritual successor.

Call me nostalgic, but lately I've been watching old Halo 3 MLG events on YouTube.
Something about those maps and those gametypes. I still find it compelling to watch pro players fight it out with BRs, even on a six year old game.

By the way, are we the only Dark Souls / Halo people around here? When I stopped, I was on NG++++ and it was getting ridiculous. I probably killed over 1,000 people in PvP with my Darkmoon Blade.

Halo 3 maps are only decent because Reach maps suck just that much.
Nutter played for a bit, and he's talked to me about doing a full playthrough in co op, which I'm down to do, I've already done it three times.
From what I've seen so far from Reach and even Sabre, Halo 3-tier maps are all we can hope for. Devs just don't seem to have that genius in them these days; that goes for any FPS lately.
The naming is even worse. They seem to have this sickly oddball-attitude towards the naming that just sounds horrible.
MLG will have BR starts, don't worry.

And me, but I haven't played any games at all since the start of the semester, I haven't played Halo for longer, and I only stop in this thread once in a while.
BTW, the thread-wide freak out a little earlier about AR starts was hilarious. Top form, people.

My biggest worry is have Killa Kc on Halo 4, let's see what it's about before he tries to make it Halo 2/3.

Also another thing people that like MLG have to move past them, yes they were great the last 7 years so and we are thankful but we are in their rear view mirror now with Starcraft 2 exploding and soon to be League Of Legends. Something has to be done with the competitive Halo crowd, there is no "leadership" or anyone that wants to push it. It's just all talks besides Nexy from what I've seen and heard. MLG/Competitive Halo going to be in some kind of "dark age" after Columbus

This is explains in part why I drifted away from MLG LANs. Instead of people playing serious Halo and figuring the game out, it kind of became "let's follow that one dude's opinion on settings". I am of the opinion that even if Halo 3 had been 110% default, KC would have still set it to 110% of that speed for the sake of changing it, and constantly trying to make the game into this meta version of Halo 2. The result is that the MLG gametypes have heavily diverged since 1 into basically this proto-MLG shooter, and it never really feels like there's a back and forth, it's just "here's the settings".

It will give us a chance to start over fresh, separate from MLG, and create a more mature community.

June is a West Coast event and they've always had a weak Halo MLG scene, then there's Raleigh after which will probably have Gears of War 3 (their home town) and they have a good competitive community. Expect a lot of backlash towards MLG and people showing their true colors. It's going to be weird on their site too since 90% of people posting there are about Halo or came from Halo. The best scenario I can see is we go out well in Columbus and return at the last event in November with Halo 4 if it's out for awhile, even then it's a stretch.
