Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

Wait a second...

I thought Halo 4 was using static shadow maps but that is dynamic!

I can't see.

Maybe this was discussed and I missed it, but in those IGN vids someone posted a few pages back it had 3 or 4 second respawn times. I hope this means instant respawn is gone, it didn't look like they were playing an objective game but I couldn't read the gametype on the screen to be sure because it was really blurry.

I hope that it still takes you out of scope when using the sniper rifle, but I'm glad that a piece of Halo's gunplay I've always thought to be misguided and annoying is gone. In Reach there was practically no way to fight back if you were being DMR'd from across the map.

That was so annoying, I remember on Headlong I shoot a guy pretty far away zoomed in hit him three times then I guess bloom was big enough where my next shots didn't hit...dude turns around and five shots me and I can't get zoomed back in. Just dropped my controller and grabbed a drink.

He shot so fast yet his bloom didn't go all the way up. I had no time to zoom in and get a shot on him just watched him 5 shot me from so far so fast.

Theres a reason I remember this battle out of the thousands and thousands of battles I've had. It was so fucked up. Beyond anything I've seen so far.

Different screens different game, lag. Something, but I call it mostly bullshit.

You can choose not to respawn instantly if you don't press X.

Instant Respawns are still in, and Ellis says that he thinks they nailed it.

Ok, I've been away from the computer all day so can somebody explain these orbital drops?

Are they earned through kill streaks?

Are they the only means of getting new weapons on the map, aside from taking weapons off bodies?

Do orbital drops occur intermittently like weapon spawns, or can they ONLY be called in via kill streaks?

And what the hell was with that Infinity video that showed a guy leveling up past major and UNLOCKING A BR?! What, you're stuck with an AR and pistol to start?

Each map/gametype has a default loadout tailored to the map/gametype. IIRC, Frankie gave DMR/Plasma Pistol as an example for BTB.

343 is continuing the tradition of changing things for no reason and making them worse.

Also, I'm pretty sure you don't get knocked out in CoD, so there's your explanation.

In CoD you have severe flinch when being hit while ADS... in MW3 there's a proficiency called Focus that lessens this.

They tried spawning us with a SMG and they tried spawning us with an AR. Both those failed, so now they're straight up removing the BR from the game until you've put in your time with the bad weapons.

I've also heard that to unlock any playlist except Infinity Slayer you have to make a thread on 343's forums about how awesome and skillful the AR is.

Get 25 kills in a row without dying, get a special Orbital Drop: Orbital Drop Shock Troopers to clean up everyone on the map.

Nope.

And the you're allowed to spawn with it and dominate people? How does that make sense?

I'd rather have to fight for one on the map, then be matched up against people STARTING with the damn thing when I don't have that option.

Forgive me if I've missed someone saying this on here already but some halocouncil guys brought up something few have noticed so far, you don't get hit out of scope when taking damage.
Well, duh, Call of Duty does it, right? They should just announce Aim Down the Sights and let Halo MP rest in peace, this slow unveiling of "new" feautures is totally unnecesary, just kill it already and save us the agony.

What you gonna do, right? At least both Campaign and Spartan Ops (amazing name BTW, very original and Halo-ish, LOL) look great.

lol

Severe flinch takes the place of being "knocked out of scope" in CoD. It's arguably a much harsher penalty in CoD due to severe bounce, and what you have to do to correct it... while in Halo you just held aim and clicked your thumbstick.

There should be a requirement that if you are going to compare the two games... people actually PLAY the two games.
If you want to take my comment literally (hint: you shouldn't) that's OK, but you are totally missing the point. Put it however you want, in the end it's just another unnecessary change (not just unnecesary, actually, it is detrimental to Halo's gameplay) to the formula to make it more palatable to the CoD crowd.

Pay no attention to this man.

To me?

This page has been horrible with "omg CoD in Haloz, 343 ruining my games." No one seems to realize other games did most of this before CoD, and also that changing some things in Halo isn't killing anything. Some of this could make the game better, but people are so damn stuck in the past that this Halo needs to be just like their favorite Halo or it sucks.

/end rant

The scoping mechanisms are vastly different; I was being facetious. That said, lets not pretend that many of the "new" features aren't pretty much carbon copies of something from CoD.

Flinch is probably the worst thing to happen to CoD, aside from the massive aim assist.

Your rant is just as generalising and hyperbolic as the posts you're complaining about..
*shrug*

I like some of the changes, I worry about some of the others. Not because of CoD or anything, but because of WHAT I LIKE. I don't like text in the middle of the screen. Simple as that.

Flinch in CoD is horrible for the same reason being knocked out of scope in Halo is awful besides it being a necessary balancing mechanism for the Sniper Rifle. In CoD, the entire game is determined by who hits who first, and if you get hit first, you can't hit shit. You can have the "Focus" perk, but I shouldn't have to have it. In Reach, it finally came to a head with the DMR. If you were being shot by a DMR from across the map, you had only two options: try to get behind cover, or die. It was almost impossible to shoot back because the DMR is useless at that range out of scope, and the rate of fire meant that even rapidly clicking the thumbstick wasn't enough, you'd just immediately be knocked back out.

So, I'm glad you are no longer knocked out of zoom by being shot. However, it had better still be present on the Sniper Rifle, or at least some other balancing measure be added.

That's perfectly fine, that makes sense. I just hate seeing people resort to saying 343 put this or that change in the game "because they want to ruin Halo, and Call of Duty does it." That's just an inability to discuss what's really wrong in their mind, and blame it on the scapegoat of "being like CoD."

Don't mean to rant, and I do t do it much, I'd just rather people expand on their opinion rather than saying 343 wants to ruin the game and make it call of duty.

Thanks for expressing my sentiments.

I've never put enough time into a COD multiplayer mode to really say I hate it, but I can personally say what I don't like. Since I haven't played the actual game I'm mostly limiting criticism to design stuff that I can actually feel confident judging, and the text is one thing. Medals another.

Connection and quick kill times may typically decide that, but there are those who handle the flinch better than others and win gun fights because of it... it can be a layer of skill. If the flinch wasn't there it would ALWAYS be who hits who first... with flinch, it's who can control the flinch better.

With flinch I have an opportunity to outwork the other guy with skill. Without, I'd be dead...

Yeah, people who complain about it being like CoD are just entitled people who think Halo games should be made for Halo fans, which is of course ridiculous.

No, without flinch, it would be who could get the headshot. You know, just like Halo.

Wow. I was totally going to rant about how getting rid of this was a terrible idea, but you preemptively convinced me otherwise.

I understand.
I also understand a certain level of cynicism though, post Reach and post 343's matchmaking decisions. People are burned and this isn't what they want to see right now.

It's about message control to me. I don't think 343 has been good about controlling and forming multiplayer information in a way that's conducive to people's mindset (like thrusters and jetpacks being in Halo 4, why not have a podcast/video talking through why this is and why it won't be like Reach, why it is a good thing etc, sell people on it. Same for things like instant respawns etc). Whether they should have to is arguable, but I think that a lot of that reaction you're complaining about was predictable.

I actually agree with this 100%. Your scenario happens to me more often then not. I agree about keeping it for snipers too.
