Halo |OT5| Believe, Again

The average scrub in the street, which is what halo 4 (along with the majority of other blockbuster IP's) is aimed at, would use the exact same vernacular. The additions to the Halo 4 sandbox such as specialisations, personal ordinance drops, sprint, instant respawns, text in the middle of the screen, among others, are explicitly designed to attract the Call of Duty and or Battlefield crowd, games that are both above Halo Reach as it stands today.

The average COD fan that gives a cursory glance at Halo 4 will see specialisations as 'perks' and personal ordinance drops as 'care packages'.

This is the reality of normal people talking about Halo 4, not Halo nuts like us on HaloGAF who sit here f5ing the thread periodically throughout the day, everyday.

Yeah, I don't see how its ignorant calling it exactly what it is. Pulling a shotgun out as a killstreak reward to help me pull rockets as a killstreak seems unbalanced, I'm saying that without watching the pro discussion so I don't know what they said I mean im still not sure if standard slayer will have standard slayer spawns and I'm on here constantly so I don't blame them for lacking information.

I also can't believe anyone would blame them for not using the halo branding 'ordinance drops' when killstreaks have been in everyone's lexicons for far longer

So anyone feeling the itch to read Cryptum/Primordium after seeing the campaign demo? I've already read them, but my hype has definitely been increased by reading those books, campaign wise. So much to theorize about, just like after watching Prometheus.

Hopefully, we see something in video form soon.

I think it's about time for 343 to release a multiplayer vidoc. Some stuff like weapon spawning is still not really clear (at least, for me it isn't) and a lot of people who don't follow all videos and don't read forums for tidbits of info are probably confused about all the new stuff that's been introduced.

I think it has to be said though that Props to 343 for putting out so many full matches from first person. Was nice to be able to see full games.

Multiplayer Vidoc would be an awesome icing on that cake

Not surprising that these two completely get it.

But do they? Watching them talk about Halo 4 vs. watching Naded talk about Halo 4 (on his stream) gives me the impression that they played two completely different games. Neighbor's BR in particular was horrible in the Halo 4 vids which made me think "oh no, they fucked up the BR", but then Naded basically laughed at how shitty everyone's BR was in the MLG videos and talks about how great it felt to him. Same with the sniper: some reports come out online that it is harder to use, slower to kill w/body shots etc, but then Formal and Naded both said it felt good and/or "like Reach".

I'm not trying to knock certain pros while propping up others. It's just not possible to come to any real understanding of a Halo game after a dozen (2 dozen?) games in a cocktail party setting on giant laggy tvs (something Neighbor and Naded both mentioned).

The difference between killstreaks and personal drops is: the points you acquire that go towards your personal drop don't disappear when you die AND assists etc. gain you points along with kills. So a good team that is team-shooting will generate drops for everyone not just the main slayers. That's almost irrelevant to the MLG discussion because it is very unlikely that MLG will use Infinity Slayer rather than a more standard slayer.

Right now it seems like MLG will be able to do at least 110% speed and "classic" weapon spawns with no personal drops. Given that fact and that the movement/jump is more like Halo 3 I'm confident they will be able to make a highly competitive game that will at the very least be more popular than Reach. The only major stumbling block at this point would be maps, but since Guardian is in (right Ellis? Frankie?), they've got a good starting point.

Guys, can we please just get the vernacular right?

It's ordnance, not ordinance. It's not hard, and gives you +3 to not looking like an idiot. (also while we're at it, I *couldn't* care less.)

But I don't want to be locked out of an entire armour ability again. I've steadfastly refused to use any control scheme other than Bumper Jumper in Reach and as a result I've used the jetpack about three times. Once however, for the opening of Uncaged, I spawned blue. For the lols I decided to switch to default and use the jetpack to have quick access to the sniper. Wow the jetpack was an eye opener. I used it for a few minutes more in the match (I was messing up often due to button configuration confusion) and it completely broke the map open; if it was more amenable to the bumper jumper config I'd use it often.

So, with that said, I don't want to be locked out of an AA for another Halo game. I don't want to be punished for using Bumper Jumper...

It's called Bumper Jumper. So the jumping part is indispensable. Here's how I'd have a BJ type control scheme in Halo 4:

LT- grenades
RT- shoot

LB- jump
RB- AA

Y- switch weapon
B- melee
A- pick up weapon/reload
X- sprint

LS- crouch
RS- zoom

Up on D-pad - switch grenades

It's not ideal but it allows for actions that need to be on bumper in order to be used in tandem with the joysticks.

The other BJ suggestions are fine if you're not intending to use the jetpack but now sprint is universal it's more essential to have it access to it.

Fankie pls
I'd say switch A and X from what you have above. The controls you just outlined would be the only admissible variant to bumper jumper for people that really want unhindered AA use, imo. Of the four actions on the triggers/bumpers in bumper jumper, melee is the only one that can be moved off to make room for an AA.

Does that +3 to not looking like an idiot do anything to counteract the -1000 to looking cool that we get for being registered members of a video game forum?

Thats just arguing semantics though, these might be more akin to point streaks that even support players can earn, but for the sake of gameplay from what we know they still seem like they are going to play out very much like killstreaks. Perhaps more like the MW3 support package than the Assualt package but for the sake of discussion I don't think you can blame people for blurring the lines a bit.

I really dislike the idea of the support package, both in CoD and in Halo, being able to die but carry on towards your streak just allows players to play recklessly. They will be rewarded for running out and getting 5 kills and 15 deaths. Its going to allow people to go even more negative and actually encourage them to jump into combat scenarios that they have little chance of winning.

Halo 4 for me at this stage looks really fun, but for my competitive fix im hoping MLG goes crazy with the delete button on a lot of stuff lol.

All this control talk... ugh.

Why can't we just customise our own controls? No real reason, PC has spoiled me to the point that, when I can't change to a control scheme which suits me, or customise them fully, it annoys me.

LT to zoom, clicking RS to zoom is archaic. IMO of course, but it's what I prefer these days.

The problem is that so many new systems are in place, that none of them would get enough exposure in a 5 or even 10 minute vidoc. Our worries would not end after it too.

Furthermore, what we already have seems to be slice of the new additions, there will be new weapons, vehicles and systems that have not been discussed. Before we even get a decent explanation of what is going on now, we will be even more confused when new stuff shows up.

343 is in such a weird position right now.

RS is alot better for zooming, it makes much more sense than LT to zoom. LT is a much more valuable input than RS and RS is also part of the R stick used for aiming.

I'm not convinced that having a shotgun and/or a power-up spawn every 3 minutes in a certain location is going to cause a player to behave less recklessly than they would with the personal drop system in place, but I do agree that this system will reward bad players more often than the current weapon spawning system does. That's why I strongly suspect that Infinity Slayer will only be available in what we would consider to be social playlists. In that context it seems like it could be a lot of fun.

No. This is just useful for not making yourself look stupid in real-life situations. No one need know about that -1000 unless you let them :p

I wouldn't mind several vidocs. One on AA's and modifications, one on weapon drops and maybe one on maps and vehicles.

I have the urge to. But I am going to read them this fall again.

Wrong.

It may have done nothing from the casual side of things and I can understand why that could be said but from the competitive side it added so much more depth for players, even giving them personalities among the community (with Walshy clawing). Some button glitches did vary in skill like nade reloading to double shotting.

With that said you can't purposely put mistakes into game, Halo 1/2 glitches were flukes that just benefited some players and the competitive community.

Neighbor & Elamite Talk Halo 4 Multiplayer from E3
Great interview of Elamite and Neighbor. I feel like I would feel the same had I play-tested the game.

I prefer the smoothness aiming with LT offers, especially quickly transitioning in and out of zoom with no effect on my aim. When clicking the stick it feels slower and it's harder to move the stick and zoom at the same time.

As I said before, it's a preference, there is no better control scheme so why not just give options?

In that case...Italy FTW. :p
Fuck spain
the national football team, not the country lol

I think most of Europe hates their national team.

Effectively vidocs are just introduction to new gameplay mechanics and hype trailers, think of “We got this new thing that is going to change how Halo plays and it’s awesome!”. What we want however is a detailed explanation on what these new mechanics are, which is just difficult to convey in a vidoc and is not it’s function.

The problem with all this information trickling out is that it is so scattered and vague, with 343 not nailing down and effectively explaining it. We getting mumbled information about different mechanics, instead of focusing on just one mechanic that has been introduced i.e. The ordnance dorps system. One way that could be helped is that the weekly bulletin focuses on one of those specific mechanics, break it down and show it in action in a one minute video.

I always thought vidocs were great to explain new stuff. You can give examples via persons and video plus you'll hear it from the people who know most about it. Plus a lot of people watch the vidoqs where most people don't bother to read the bulletin.

Maybe it was just me, but they always felt like hype trailers. Not saying your idea is bad though, it would be ideal – but I understand why they might not do it.

if they keep this whole you don't get knocked out of scope while being shot thing I'm sure there will be a CoD control scheme.

It's never enough.

I still haven't watched all of those MLG videos, so im sort of satisfied in one way.

In another way though E3 was just annoying, we have seen the stuff we read about, but nothing more, and nothing we have seen has really added to what we learnt all those months ago from the GI article. Rather than show us anything new, they just sort of showed us what has been leaked and put in magazine articles already. Worst of all, except for the MLG videos and the 10 minute campaign reveal, any tidbit of information has to be scrapped together through 3rd party sources. Which is hardly reliable. I cant believe even details of stuff we heard about like 6 months ago is still unclear, never mind the fact theres so much more we haven't even seen yet.

So yeah, im still waiting for new information, but seeing the game in motion was really nice.

I would say that the campaign enemies and new weapons were new things we had not seen before or even heard about.

I meant purely from a multiplayer point of view, like the campaign reveal was awesome but except for the MLG videos multiplayer is still just so unknown. Seeing forerunner weapons was also cool, but so far except for the shotgun I dont think we saw any of them in action, or know much about them? I just cant believe they showed, but didnt explain, the stuff we read about back in GI. I guess to an extent we have gathered all that information through Frankie/ David posting in here, but I really hope we get a full multiplayer blowout sometime before the game comes out. Reach might have sucked, but at least I feel like I knew about the game mechanics going into the beta.

I am so confused, but im laughing, why am I laughing?

343 just needs to poop out some videos of their own already. Reveal stuff and explain them right away. So far 90% of the info we got was via other outlets which may have interpreted features in an inaccurate way. Especially the GI was everything but clear about what they saw.

Ohh, my bad :)

Aside from the snipers, "Sierra 117" is very well balanced for Legendary. On this difficulty you really have to use the Covenant hierarchy to your advantage: Thin out the Grunt numbers then kill the Brute captain to make the rest scatter. Outsmarting the Covenant is especially satisfying on Legendary. At one point I was at the river fighting around the irrigation columns when I decided to flank two Brute captains. I dropped the Needler I had and picked up a nearby Brute shot, turned a corner, and obliterated both of them. There was this huge grin on my face: "Yup. That's how it's suppose to be."

The mlg videos with developer commentary explain a lot about certain weapons and armor abilities. They did technically show us a lot if you don't count the information gathered from the leaks. Also, they showed 3 forerunner weapons, the scattershot, light rifle, and the repeater.
