I've always used Mark VI since Halo 2. I was hoping for it to make a return as the armour I've seen looks awful.

Gimme Scout or Recon helmet and i'm happy. (They're in the game already)
Or Halo 3-esque EVA.
Like the default Spartan IV helmet quite a lot so i'm okay with it.
Don't have any real attachement to baseline Mjolnir helmets.

This is dumb.

Remember the multiplayer is, umm, canon now. No way SIVs would be using outdated equipment the Chief is using, and there is no point in upgrading existing stuff (unless they're specialist equipment like Scout or Recon or CQB).

EDIT i'm imagining 343 staff grinning evilly as we think about this.

Mark V/VI/4 Variant - Spartans inspired by Master Chief or those who prefer the simpler classic MJOLNIR armor prefer to use this variant.

There's your canon.

Why, why can't 343 comment about Gamescom? I can't imagine they're unwilling to say yes or no so I'd start imagining there's an NDA or something.

Let me over-think this, it starts on Wednesday, bulletin day... and here we go.

If it's anything Nexy going for Astro Gaming. If there's anything awesome he'll get it hopefully.

Yeah I'm going there on Thursday so I'll find out then anyway but I still think the silence is weird. Other then David (and he didn't give an answer), no one from 343 replied.

all the sad frogs said:

the people have spoken!

in all seriousness I repeat my prior statement, I am PRAYING that it was a mistake or misinterpretation.

I need my Mk V helmet.

Would any 343 like to calm to rioters?

If it was 'unimportant' enough to deny on June whatever, is it awesome enough to confirm its in on August 12th? :)

Do we know how close Halo 4 is to going gold?

Not long, About 20 days ish id say. Printing + Cert + Shipping is about a 3 month ish job. Its going to likely leak in late October about 2 weeks before launch is the normal time frame so that is when we batten down the hatches.

I wonder if it would be possible to add in armor after Halo 4 is released...

Didn't Halo: Reach leak when the game was put up on the marketplace for 9999999999 MS Points and a hacker managed to get it?

You got to assume at this point its been made an option, They trailed it with reach (GRD) bungie said it was possible but would require to much work back during H3.

Thats a long and interesting story.

Reach was taken from the xbox servers in a .xcp format. People then worked for about 24 hours'ish to unpack that file into the games file structure at which point it could be loaded and played on JTAG xboxes. The actual game Leaked a few days before release (so pirates with flashed drives could play it)

ODST leaked about a week and a half before launch (in french at first) and then a english copy came the day before release.

Im unsure about H3 and H2 but i remember hearing H2 leaked and i have no doubt H3 did.

The issue is how big is the leak. If its something like the .xcp the entire pirate community band together to crack the file open which is a small leak because its not officially out and played within that scene and once it does get cracked its usually kept secret until launch and distributed in a friend to friend way.
If someone gets a disc either from the printing factory or shipping or early delivery at a store then once its online its filters down the internet in seconds. Top Sites to Newsgroups to File Sharing sites to Torrents to P2P is saturated within hours.
Obviously other types of leaks happen. PNET leaks and such but they hardly ever seen the light of day in terms of saturation its usually kept in very small numbers.

If it leaks this time its going to be a iso leak id imagine and its going to cover the internet in hours in which case the only hope to avoid it is to stay offline or at the very least stay off youtube/Halo sites/Game News sites ect. ODST ending was spoiled for me by youtube recommended videos.

Yeah based on the fact that they at least considered patching it into Reach, I assume they have it for H4. Also, consider they have weapon skins and such, I'm sure they made all of that possible to add through DLC.

Unless they pull a mass effect or street fighter. On disc locked content. How does gears do it?

Much better.

Actually the old one looks pretty good too. I'll take both.

While I don't dislike the Halo Wars Spartan, I always was bugged by the designs huge shoulders and mini waist.. The proportions were just a little too 'heroic', but the armor design is nice. Not a big fan of the helmet either, the part below the visor looks off. I liked the concept design more because it has a more practical sense, it feels bulkier but also more natural. Plus it has a damned sexy helmet.

Lets unfortunately talk about something that makes me a sad

I always wear "chief" armor during MP

Specifically Mk V will always be my first choice

but then I saw this tweet awhile back...

This is unforgivable.

Not to blow it out of proportion, but the proportions could not be any larger.
This is such a huge negative for me, I really truly hope he was either misinformed or it wasnt finalized.

Do yall like using the Mk series helmets or do you more often stray and go with another series?

Dammit, Mark V/Mark VI was the only helmet I liked to wear...

Won't the pre-order stuff be available at a later point somehow?

Halo Wars Spartan's look laughable...ugh.
They remind me of this:

*Halo: The Fall Of Reach Re-issue cover*

Laughing so hard right now at how badass they look.
The Re-issue covers are the pics where they look awesome. The renders above remind me *look at pic above*

I hardly believe that the UNSC would waste the armor by not updating it. They spent millions upon billions of dollars developing MJOLNIR armor and millions upon billions more manufacturing the existing armor. Just issue the software updates to make it compatible with current armor builds like what was seen transitioning from Mark IV to Mark V and from Mark V to Mark VI. We have Grenadier (up-armored Mark IV pattern armor), Security (updated to function with the Mark VI suite) and the standard Mark V (also updated to function with the Mark VI suite).

I see no reason that MJOLNIR Gen 1 Armor would be incompatible with MJOLNIR Gen 2 Armor.

But, the actual excuse is something closer to wanting to abandon the older designs in favor of the newer designs for 343i. Makes me sad, because I'm a member of the Mark V master race.

My qualm with not brining back the old armor is that so many of the helmets we've seen for the Spartan IVs, especially the default one, just make them look like power rangers.

Okay, good points. But it might be that Gen 1 and Gen 2 simply ain't compatible, though i cannot really offer any reasonable reason as to why this could be the case...
Alternatively, since there never were many people who could wear Gen 1 armor, it is likely there ain't actually many suits of Gen 1 armor in the first place. It is not really cost effective to upgrade a 50 suits of Gen 1 armor to be compatible with Gen 2 when you're mass producing Gen 2 armor...
Spartan IV numbers are implied to be relatively high compared to even Spartan IIIs. At least i got that impression.

Me, i don't care about dropping the old armor in favor of new desings.
