i wasnt paying attention to WHO posted it, just that it was, and I havent had my dr. pepper yet today so im on edge!

discussion time, shouldnt be before food time.

my apologies

Specializations are going to be a wonderful addition for cooperative and team players to fill in roles

I feel so sorry for people who play Halo solo, team play is so rewarding both socially and statistically

obviously dropping obvious sarcasm

it was my bad

Heh, no worries. Most of my friends at home have learned to suspect sarcasm any time I say something remotely negative. I'm a relentless optimist that gets an unhealthy pleasure out of being facetious.

At this risk of posting this too early (7:00 EDT), and not getting as many responses as I'd like, I'm going to do it anyway.

And this is open to ALL fans who think Halo 3 has the best multiplayer, and don't like what they're seeing in Halo 4 with specializations and AAs.

I want to play devil's advocate for a moment. This post makes the case against the concept of not knowing all the cards in a player's hand until you meet him or her in a fight. Firefights aren't only decided by player skill and what happens over the course of the match, but what players select in a menu, too. If a player is playing a Halo game in the mold of Halo 1 or 2 – and, to an extent, Halo 3, and we'll get to that in a moment – every player knows and can see all the pieces on the board before the match starts. There's a predictability to it, and it was very much like a game of chess, as Shake implied.

However, this was not true at all times within Halo 3. During the events of the match players would pick up equipment, like a bubble shield or a regenerator, and not deploy them until they were at a disadvantage in a firefight. You didn't know a player had a bubble shield until you dropped his or her shields and that person deployed it to try to alter the outcome of a battle. This is very similar to fighting someone and not knowing they have jetpack, or camo, Promethean vision, and the like until you engage them on a map.

So, my questions is this: What specifically is the most troublesome? Is it the concept you don't like, or is it the degree to which it is applied? Or is it the implementation of the concept? Were the other factors in the game good enough to cause you to overlook the concept?
Halo 3's pickups weren't permanent, and were a one time use. You had to fight for one, and not everybody on the map had one. Armor Abilities/Specializations are abilities that everyone in the game has, and can use nearly all the time.

I feel so depressed.
I tried and warned.
I love you all.
:(

I mentioned this in the other thread on the gaming side, but this occured to me this morning and it really bothers me.

Situation: I'm near the enemy base, having worked my way through the map and deep into their territory. I kill someone near the base, and quickly dash into the base and hide in it, working toward the flag. The player I killed had this perk, and can tell his entire team what my new position is, despite no one having seen me move to my new position. They converge and kill me.

Or

I get into the enemy base and snag a flag, killing a couple guys in the process. (Hey, it happens now and then.) One of them has this perk. Now they can see and track me as I escape with the flag, putting a waypoint on the escaping flag carrier.

So long as a couple guys back defending an objective have this perk enabled, they will be able to recon the attacking team's position if they are killed.

Someone please explain to me how this is not game breaking for objectives.
It really, really looks game breaking. Maybe there's something we don't know, but I thought the description was pretty clear.

that is something we indeed share, Ive been trying so hard to right the wrongs of IGN and produce calm and informed conversation, then I thought I let one slip through the cracks and apparently it was just you melting my brain

Id rather be a 343 slurpee king than walking typing around pissed off all the time

Okay, I'm getting grouchy. NO SHIT!
!

I was just giving IGN shit, not you. You know, the reporters on Zealot, the remake of Midship? Even when they do interviews, it just feels like they're feigning interest. Although, Ryan McCaffery (formerly of OXM) was the credited author, and he seemed alright before. Hmm.

It's like jokeception in here.
Sidenote: I find that most every word can be combined with "ception" to create an image of multiplicity and confusion.

This place is a mess at the moment. After Reach, I was expecting this place to liven up but the temperature of this place, even amongst the hopeful, is downright chilly.

Looks like we've jumped ahead to the final stage of the cycle before release but just before release hype.

Is there a specific reason why nearly all the renders of the new Spartan armors are in Blue/Silver?

Where they just lazy or something?

You will have the same loadouts available in SpOps you do in Multiplayer, yes.

Also, please note, "Specializations" are not "a thing"

Simply a reward path. You still only have 2 perks mods

Do we know how many specializations there will be?

With new game modes that replace map control and make power weapon control, these specializations can serve like LoL DLC Champions, given each one releases with a specialization and a support package and tactical package.

That'd be cool.

How many reveals like the Specialisations can you take before you abandon ship? =P

Ask me after PAX, when I've played it. I put a lot of time in the Halo threads because it's something I'm passionate about. I can't be passionate about a game I don't like, but I'm reserving judgement until I've played it.

That said, the specialization reveal has really rattled me. I'll have a longer post on this while I'm at lunch in just a bit.

Odds of that being the title? lol

Higher that Deadly Cyclone would like. :p

That would be very neat. And unfortunately, my hopes were dashed, 343i fixed their typo where it said "armor mod" twice on the waypoint site for rewards. So probably only going to be one mod, either support or tactical, not both.

Thanks nillapuddin!
I called this one a few days ago when Stalker asked about the differences between SpOps and Campaign. This Is Good :)

I think 8 right? They're going to get rolled out though over time. I'm assuming some will be introduced as DLC down the line too. That's just my theory though.

I would really like if they added more as DLC, break the monotony of DLC only being Maps, and like a patch to a PC game, change the meta-game with new abilities.

So these aren't separate from the tactical and support packages?

I was getting all optimistic...

And I hate the roll out crap. I stopped playing Reach for a month when they had that level cap.

Shacknews is reporting that the War Games season pass will be $25:

On top of today's specialization details, 343 Industries has also given some more information on the Limited Edition, and the (somewhat unsurprising) revelation that the "War Games Map Pass" will be sold separately. The pass will go on sale for $24.99 on November 6, alongside Halo 4.

Previously only announced as part of the Limited Edition, this grants you three DLC packs, consisting of three maps apiece, for 15% off the cost of buying them separately. You'll also get two exclusive helmets and a Falcon emblem.

Then again, if you're going to pay $25 on top of a $60 game, you're already in the range of the $99 Limited Edition. 343 outlined the full line-up of goodies today too, which includes the pass, access to all the specializations, a "UNSC briefing packet," the Forward Unto Dawn special edition, and various digital content: Recruit and Prime armor, Prime weapon skin and emblem, Recruit Avatar armor, and a Cryo-Tube Avatar prop.

They can't really do this though if all will be available to LE owners at launch. At least, without it being a mess.
