Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

I've been thinking a lot about the meta-game side of Halo lately and I don't think it's been explored in a way that is truly engaging. To date it's just a fictional number that relates to how much you grind and/or boost. Spartan Points are hidden from other players, I assume, and that's a good thing. In Halo 5 (too late for 4) the meta game should include bets and wagers.

IE: you could open a lobby, set it for 4v4 (or 1v1) and put wager on the game in spartan points. Then another team/player would match you wager and the winner would get the spoils. Or open up wagering on other teams (again, Halo 5, with spectator mode, etc.) Think of how engaging it would be to watch a pro/sponsored event, streamed through your console, when you're actually betting Spartan Points on the outcome.

Custom challenges would be a nice way to use the points as well. Instead of just creating challenges to farm credits the custom challenges should be a true competition. Imagine creating a "Score the highest # of points on X Level in the next 3 hours" and the ante is 3,000 Spartan Bucks. Winner take all. (again, custom challenge and custom game browser will be in 5, right?)

Granted these ideas would be abused, players would boost, and players would find a way to grief the system. But if the total number of points you have is NEVER visible to anyone else (other than the meta-level rank you have achieved) then who cares? I think the meta game could be much more involved in future titles (and maybe it is in 4, but we haven't heard anything about it).

That's a really interesting idea, but I'm not sure what the "currency" is. It'd require an entirely new way of thinking about progression systems and creating an economy, essentially. What are these "bucks" being used for? If you lose them, does that just mean yu can't get as much stuff in the armory as fast, or is there some other deleterious effect?

I would assume that you could earn the bucks/points the way they are currently implemented in Reach (grind, commendations, challenges), but you could either choose to spend them, save the, or wager them. I also thought about how you could "bank" your Space Bucks and earn interest, but that seemed a bit too "meta" for the game.

One is sanctioned by a legal body, and--oh, you mean Halo? No idea.

Where do you see it say execution? Perhaps that's just what they call it when you assassinate someone as the king.

Thanks for the footage by the way. Color balance is all screwy at first but it gets fixed about halfway through. Otherwise quality is pretty good.

The needler looks extremely powerful. I kinda like it. Its such a cool weapon that it's nice for it to not be underpowered for once.

Refer to him as Count Cockula, Master of German Dungeon Porn, please.

Oh how I wish Zeouterlimits and I were at PAX so we could tell you all the tale of how bloody weird it was getting the PDF of Cards Against Humanity printed at a local printers. The makers released the pdf, you know, cuz to get the game across the seas you'd end up paying loads more for it.

The sheer horror on the dude's face that worked at the printers as he judged us, having clearly read too many cards, is something I won't forget soon.

HaloGAF, I don't ask much of you, and I know this is off topic, but could any of you give me some help with this PC I'm trying to build? Important parts:

Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor G860 3.0 GHz 3 MB Cache LGA 1155 - BX80623G860
BIOSTAR H61MGC LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500w Power Supply (RS500-PCARD3-US)
Corsair XMS3 4 GB 1333MHz PC3-10666 240-pin DDR3 Memory Kit

I hooked everything up outside the case, and it doesn't work. The CPU fan spins up for about a second, then stops and nothing come up on the monitor. And I get no beeps from the motherboard. Anybody got any ideas?

Do you have a hard drive?

Can you get into the bios? Setting the memory timings and voltages may cause this. Need more details than that.

Possibly a bad motherboard(or power supply). Try disconnecting everything and reconnecting it inside the case.

Hey 343 you guys should give Halo 4 to Conan O'Brien for him to review on the show. Those segments are hilarious.

Good video. Dat BR burst.

If sprint really needs to be in Halo (it doesn't but whatever) they need to work on that shitty animation for the next game, think outside of the box on how a sprint animation could look in first person. Here the weapon just teleports down abruptly into this robotic back and forth sway and then gets readied like you just picked it up from the floor everytime it comes back up, it looks so bad, specially when it's being feathered and you keep seeing the 3 animations in succession. They should figure out a more seamless loop that looks way more natural and realistic, even if sprint keeps working the same underneath.

No way 343i will want him pointing out the weird and ridiculous shit we gamers are used to.

Oh man they are so funny. We should push for him to get it after it comes out.

Are his Halo 4 lines really going to be in the game?

I'm not sure why I'm more excited about the remake being announced, to take this thread off of repeat, or to satisfy my curiosity.

Yall, the Reach OST is good. Just a friendly reminder that even though the game was, let's say, 'amazing,' the soundtrack was still much better at capturing the atmosphere and tone the game SHOULD'VE created better than the game itself.

Does anyone know if they for sure will block certain loadouts for specific gametypes? Because I'm thinking maybe that's another reason why they made the KILL waypoint, auto pickup and not being able to drop the flag..

Wouldn't playlists get too "complicated" if certain gametypes restricted only certain parts of the loadouts? Just sayin.. Seems like they're trying to balance everything so that they won't need to do that and in some cases over"balancing" (ie: CTF changes).

-EDIT-

v Oh so nothing definitive then? Was hoping I missed something concrete..

They've alluded to that countless times.

Till this morning, I did not know what German dungeon porn had been. But I did my research.
