I've read some of the early drafts. It's pretty sweet and a very good read, more so when he finishes it and gives it a polish. It's not quite done just yet but I'm sure Ghaleon can give you a better idea. Soon, hopefully. Sooner than you think.

Are there any legit Inheritor's yet though? My friend's brother in-law is at Forerunner right now (which is funny because he lost his job about a month ago, and claims he is looking for a job. His sister looks at his game history, and sees that he plays all day).

I'm aiming for next week. I've found that the final crunch on one piece makes me want to take a break from writing a bit to refresh. That was the case after my soothing, thoughtful piece (ahem) on Firefight's matchmaking implementation and again on the Challenges article as well. I'm setting in to expand and polish two big sections tonight, and hope to have an end-end draft by the weekend.

After that, polish and media (half of which is already in).

To set expectations, I've decided to focus the review on two (big) aspects: the combat sandbox and the mission designs we use it on. Elements of the story I'll touch on in so far as they affect gameplay, but I deleted the section about the story telling in Reach. Partly to focus the review, partly because other people have covered the story better than I could, and partly because I already posted the nuts and bolts of it on GAF ("go in quiet"....oh hay helicopter outside the door).

Opinion on reticule bloom.

Shadowrun relic/gameplay element, no me gusta.

Opinion on Armor Abilities and most used one.
Jetpack, is fine when used in burst to reach platforms, if anyone stays floating to long they're asking to get shot down and usually do get shot down.

Sprint a must if you want to get anywhere, anytime, if used properly makes up for lack of agility and speed.

Evade, two rolls is to much, causes chaos and has certain annoying weapon combinations rolling shotgun and sword come to mind.

Armor Lock, should have had a damage threshold, overpowered garbage that only seeks to waste time and frustrate the player that has the upper hand. It is the ultimate troll AA.

Camo is annoying in spades, especially if facing a team of camo users.

What made you fall in love with Halo? (optional)
It really got me into the genre, though my first FPS was Jumping Flash! it wasn't what like what people know of as FPS today(or heck even back then), Jumping Flash didn't emphasize aiming and weapon choice it was about jumping and platforming mostly. But when I first played Halo I just remember when Chief crash landing on Halo and just seeing the giant Ring and the vast open area just wowed me, I felt as if I was really on this ring world. The aliens were just so iconic and memorable with their lines, sounds and A.I, they felt so life like and it just really blew me away and I've loved the franchise since, despite its ups and downs.

Figured I'd take another shot at this in an effort to emphasize a couple of things.

Highest Halo 3 level and which playlist.

48 in Team Slayer I believe. Never really placed too much value in numbered ranks other than providing a reasonable barometer as it pertains to overall MM experience.

DMR, but I won't hesitate to switch my trusty AR and mow someone down once my clip is low. Skill and honor be damned, as long as I get the kill that's all that counts :p

Middy and Heretic with Lockout and Guardian a close second respectively.

Do you prefer BTB or MLG?

While MLG is a blast to watch and play there's nothing like a fun game of BTB which IMO epitomizes the true Halo MP experience.

Semi-competitive MP as in being past that phase in my life where I really give a damn about how l33t I am at the Haloz yet still inclined to put forth my best efforts in order to help my team win their match because losing still sucks.

Don't hate it as I fully understand its intent as far as balancing out the weapon sandbox yet realize that it's just not quite perfect in its implementation. Wouldn't mind an option to adjust it and/or turn it off in Halo 4.

Basically the same opinion as with reticule bloom. Always welcome a developer pushing the envelope a bit, just wish more thought was put into its implementation. (ex: jetpack loadouts on maps like Uncaged and Reflection instead of having it as a pick up on the map)

The moment I climbed out of that escape pod and first set foot on Halo. Never experienced anything like it. The ominous introduction of the flood in 343 Guilty Spark sealed the deal and made me a fan for life. MP was of course the icing on an extremely rich and tasty cake.

I agree. If 343i are going to be as stubborn as Bungie was and not give us a custom games browser then at least give us a chance to say screw this. I really felt sorry for a guy today. I was playing the DLC slayer option and the entire other team quit except one guy. To his credit he stuck it out. He camped like a bitch but I certainly understand that.

Yep. I find it really unfair to be penalized for quitting after half my team is gone. Rather take a 15 minute brake than spend the next 10+ minutes basically running for my life.

So, I haven't seen you guys post many theories on how Classic++ is going to work on the Halo 1 maps.

I posted my prediction over at HBO originally, but here's my theory:

It's possible for new weapons and vehicles to be shipped with new maps. Bungie did this in Halo 3:

* The golf club is a new weapon on Sandbox that had new HUD graphics, although for their purposes they just re-used the gravity hammer effect

* The Transport Hornet is technically a new vehicle as far as the engine is concerned.

* The Soccer and Golf Balls on the DLC maps are actually vehicles, which is why they flip/twitch when you press RB next to them. The eye on Cold Storage is a vehicle. Etc.


Back to my theory: I think they're going to include a subset of the Halo 1 version of weapons as Forge Objects. If not all of them, at least the Halo 1 pistol will be a Forge-able object.

This is the best case scenario for the old Halo 1 multiplayer fanboys as it's cross-version compatible (all the data is in the .map) and doesn't require pushing out a 10GB TU.

343 can then just use Megalo to make a special "Halo CE Slayer" gametype that spawns you with the Pistol. The special Classic++ playlist would use this gametype.

And since Megalo is object-aware and object-safe, it'd safely fail and say "This gametype is not compatible with this map" if you tried to select Halo CE Slayer on one of the existing disc or DLC maps.

What would be your opinion on that kind of setup?

Oh yea I meant to reply over there. BTW welcome. Forgot to say that. I really do like your idea. If they could pull that off along with invincible vehicles that don't make a driver invincible it would totally kick ass.

The ChromeHounds system makes you have a goal and you feel really good about fighting for that goal and it makes you want to keep coming back. Hell if Reach had a "Battle for Reach" mode where it was Spartans vs Covenant on a territory board like ChomeHounds....oh man.

I would say this is pretty good guess of what we are going to get. Whatever we do get, it will probably be tied to the .map files and therefore not available for use on the other maps in Reach.

Welcome by the way. I remember when I was a newly crisp junior many years ago, in awe of the GAF path to glorious salvation, on the footpath to the great journey.

I agree. That brings up one thing then though. If that is the case I would love to see the .map files either patched for Blood Gultch and possibly some more old maps released as DLC for the mode then.

I think it's a likely scenario, in part because 343i has been careful to specify that the 'classic' experience will be featured on the maps included with the game, which strongly implies some new content tied to the maps themselves (a necessity considering how the map/object system works).

There was an option for invincible vehicles in Halo 3. Did that not come along in the move over to Reach? I swear it did. I'll have to go check.

edit: Yeah, it's there. Weapons and Vehicles -> Indestructible Vehicles
 
When I first got accepted I didn't come in here declaring "HI GUISE I'M NEW" and just tried to assimilate so I didn't get the quiz but I'm bored at work so what the hell.

Opinion on Armor Abilities and most used one.
Armor Lock shouldn't exist in Multiplayer. I believe that if you put yourself in a bad position then you deserve to die, none of this second chance bullshit that Armor Lock gives along with the multitude of other broken shit. Drop Shield is a great Campaign ability but slows things to a crawl in Multiplayer. Jetpack should be a pick-up. Evade should only be on Elites due to their larger size. Camo should just be a pick-up like the Camo of yore. Sprint needs to be their to make up for low movement speed. Hologram is pretty much perfect, no complaints there.

I use Sprint the most because movement speed is painfully slow without it. My main problem with AAs is that due to a wide variety of them it becomes incredibly difficult to balance and design maps to encompass them all. Jetpack works on certain maps like Swordbase and Boardwalk but ruins Reflection and Powerhouse. Giving everyone the ability to spawn with it degenerates games into raining death from the sky. Sprint is mostly inoffensive but MLG still has to implement the spawn delay because the game mechanics and map design don't take Sprint into account for Objective gametypes. AAs added variety and spice to Halo but at a grave cost to the tight and balanced gameplay of yore. MLG has the right idea with making certain abilities pick-ups but that doesn't solve everything.

Plywood, and Gui_PT just from the sheer amount of games I've played with these guys. My ODST Firefight games with Tunavi are always a blast. The rest of you need to step it up to get my love.
